I try to do compound movements when possible only to save myself time. It gives me the general body shape I want, slightly less muscular than a gymnist, without needing more isolation moves. So I flex rear delts and upper back together, upper pecs and front delts together on an incline bench.

Great idea. I think I will be slowly moving to more compound movements. Save time and maybe some of the aches and pains will go away.

    I do all those, but standing, ( I don't have a bench ). At 73 I do 1 set, 10 or 12 reps.

Standing works. How many times a week are you doing this? I try to exercise every muscle twice a week.

Interesting rear delt move.... I might try that next week. I never critique anyone's style or routine, because it's always better than doing zero, and if you like, you'll do it, and that is all important.
It's a lot different than mine, but that's why I like watching what other people are doing. I love doing OHP, barbell, not really very strong at it, (currently can do about 80lbs for 6-8 reps...at age 60, {10 years ago}, could do seated bb press for 5's with 150 lbs, lol...ah well), but if feels good, and it allows me to get cups out of the cupboards without hurting, lol.
I've struggled for the past 2 decades or more with left shoulder issues, doing stupid sh**t, lol, but ah well... Many paths to glory for sure. Good work, inspiring.
I'm currently doing shoulder/chest together, ONCE/week... super setted... and heavy...
....so it's OHP press/superset with flat flyes...it's really great for the stretch ...I love how that combo makes the upper body feel......then, slight incline db bench presses/supersetted with barbell shrugs...then some face pulls on the lat pulldown machine...once in a while some side delts. ...all heavy sets of six...except higher rep shrugs...don't ask why, lol.. I haven't posted any workouts in months, going have to toss a couple up.
    Thanks for the inspiration!

Are you finding that once a week is enough for shoulders and chest?
I have the same issues. When I was younger lifting stupidly heavy. Now paying for it.
Thanks for the great comment. I would be interested in hearing how your training goes moving forward. Cheers.

@@SilverStrengthFitness So, thanks. I'm an on/off trainer. ...been that way for decades, but now trying to stick to it, 'cause well...the writing is on the wall now, lol
My best bench years ago in my 30's was about 250 lbs for sets of five. Not a big guy, about 5'9" ...on a good day, lol...about 174lbs or so. Not very strong, but strong enough. Arms were about 16.5" ...plenty big enough then....now smaller & weaker as expected.
I'm doing a sort of modified MAX OT type of training.... I'll leave that to you to learn about it. Basically, heavy sets of 4-6 reps.... ONCE/week. Lots of rest is best. I can get strong (well, relative to me, lol) fairly quickly on that...
IF>>IF>> you hit it hard enough, at 70, you will definitely need 6/7 days. I've tried doing every 5, but no. You have to mind your CNS, and general overall recovery. Most people quit on the heavy and give up when it gets hard.... you MUST push it!
A few years ago was trying the Russian Bench press routine...3x week... killing myself to get a measly 185, lol...left shoulder killing me.
Took some time, off, did some various rehab type things for it.... got to a clean 200lbs earlier this year, NO pain.
It's just harder ...much harder to get stronger now. For a good solid 15 years, I could always bench press at least 240 for 1 rep, even with a few years off.... not no more... injuries...laziness...etc take their toll.
I'm in good shape for 70, not world class, but better than most I encounter on the street.
The other people in better shape are at the dojo's and RUclips channels, lol Can work just as good as anyone 50 at work, or even better.
You find what works for you and go for it....I still like sets of lower reps....and, battling psoriatic arthritic knees, 1/2 right bicep(long story), baker's cysts.... sore wrists/left shoulder but I persist. I just wrap it all up tight and go for it, lol.... but, I feel great, definitely not 70... I sometimes think it should be illegal to feel this good at my age, and no, it's not luck or genetics...it's good diet, vitamins and strength training!
Good luck, keep up the good work. Consistency wins the day....don't ever quit! (Fellow Canuck here too...Essex County Ontario)
If I make any more progress in a few weeks, I'll post some workout videos....last one I did , I think was in June, of me doing db. bench presses....I think, 80lbs for 4, almost 5 reps? Down to 70's now, lol....nice chatting with you.
