As a Yank not very familiar with Mr. Hanrahan, I must say that I have never seen a better Dumbbell Bench Press tutorial in my 51 Years of Weight Training! Mr. Hanrahan covery Every facet of the Biomechanics involved with the DB Bench Press. His instructions are clear, concise, and to the point. Obviously, this British Gentleman Knows of what he speaks. My sincere THANK YOU to Mr. Hanrahan for adding to my knowledge of the DB Bench Press ... BRAVO!
Hey Jack, Fantastic video. Best how to video I have seen, your instruction is second to none. As a 67yr old and someone who trains at home I find the videos a great learning tool. Thanks for all your hard work.👍💪
This is absolutely the BEST tutorial on benching I have ever seen. And now I know I've been doing it wrong all this time and can correct my form and avoid shoulder pain (which I have had in the past and now know why!). The way you presented, explained and produced this video is all top-notch. Keep them coming!
As a 75 year old who injured his pecs lifting wrong with too much weight, I love this video. Lifting half the amount of weight I did before correctly and seeing results!
I’ve been doing these wrong for a very long time. I’ve consistently felt it in my shoulders and just thought that was how it was supposed to be. Can’t wait to work on form tomorrow.
I'm amused how comprehensive you explain the whole process and preparation for the execution of the exercise with every little detail covered. I had watched a lot of those video and I think I never watched better one than yours. I'm following you now and expect more videos with other types of exercises. 😊
Finally, I found a video that explains exercises easy to understand. As I train at home with dumbbells, those how-to videos are a great resource. I hope to see more videos of this kind in the future.
Man this content is superb. The details and level of engagement and professionalism you come across with is incredible. For years I’ve been looking for trustworthy, justified explanations of technique like this. More content like this will shoot this channel to another level I’m sure. Very impressive.
Great video, I'm just beginning my dumbbell journey and this was very clear and helpful. Perfect amount of explanation and detail, with no wasted time - love it!
I have lifted more than 56 years. I always pushed my dumbbell inline up and down. This warmed up my chest, back and shoulder prior to barbell bench. I did not believe in placing dumbbells on angle.
Great video! I'll only add that as a guy in his fifties, 3-45 degree inclined bench is much easier on shoulders I find as well as maintain arch while pressing lower back to bench. L5-S1 issues so "fuller" arch is painful!
Jack you are AMAZING, thank you so much for all your tips! A quick unrelated question, if you would please share, which editing app are you using? I love what you did on this video. I would appreciate you letting me know🙏🏽 Thank you🤗
Jack thanks for the excellent explanation for this chest or bench press technique. Could you kindly do a video on proper technique for Dumbbell flys. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video. It has proved to be a game changer in my dumbbell press sets. I feel it in a much healthier way while pressing LESS weight!
Thank you! Just what I needed. The cue to screw the arms makes much more sense to me than just retract shoulders down and back. Two questions 1) do you advise keeping scapula pulled tight or let them move? 2) noticed you lower your arms parallel to your body. I’ve heard it said that you get more muscle growth from full range of motion. Do you advise against going below parallel? Personally, when I try to go further it hurts my shoulder but curious about your thoughts on this.
Great video! I think my problem is not engaging the lats on the way down, because my shoulders feel very fatigued and nothing in the chest…. Thank you so much for this video Jack🎉
Awesome video! Your detailed explanation of the correct way to do dumbbell bench pressing was very helpful. I appreciate the clear instructions and the tips for maintaining proper form. This will definitely improve my workouts. Keep up the great work! I would love to see some Shoulder exercises in future videos.
Interesting info.... the "screwing your arms into the bench" might be my missing link... I'm assuming this technique is the same for incline dumbbell press too?

Would be awesome for a whole series of exercises with dumbbells - shoulders, biceps, etc.
I appreciate how you broke down the common mistakes. It really helps to visualize what to avoid.

Please make one for the goblet squads! And please tell me why my knees pop everytime i bend them into squatting, I’m 35 years old and 55 kg at 1,6 m!😊
Great tips on form. I always struggled with keeping my shoulders in the right position during the bench press.
Great video! I'll only add that as a guy in his fifties, 3-45 degree inclined bench is much easier on shoulders I find as well as maintain arch while pressing lower back to bench. L5-S1 issues so "fuller" arch is painful!
