    I think the Hondata torque by gear and traction control would totally blow your mind. I had a Focus RS and several Subaru's, and this Hondata feature in my opinion is a game changer to that issue, especially if your power levels are gonna remain mostly stock.

    Great video! I also had a WRX that was unfortunately involved in a rear-end accident. I've been looking into the CTR and my biggest drawback as well is making that transition from AWD to FWD. I just can't seem to let that go haha

    I love mine, I have a black one as well and the aero actually works so it’s not all just for looks. The seats are amazing and comfortable the power is good and the shifter is butter smooth. It stops quickly and traction is very good for a front wheel drive with the limited slip axle.

    I upgraded from WRX to RS3. Obviously miss manual transmission. RS3 handles pretty well, but I doubt as well as your type-R, definitely suffers from a little understeer with the FWD bias(MQB platform same as golf). But it is a super fun daily driver on the street to mash that gas pedal in sports mode and leave cars in the dust for no reason. I would highly recommend taking your type-R to the track, I bet that would make you love your car more than ever. Awesome vid as always!

    51 Here, I have the Type R Sport line, black. I love it, and agree with you about the colour choice, and your thoughts about the 4wd. Supposedly the incoming next gen will have both, FWD and 4WD with 350 and 400 hp respectively.

  • @lobuzz311

    I feel you on the FWD. I bought a really heavily modified Fiesta ST with close to 300hp, my first FWD car in 15 years. I've had it for 6 months, and it will be getting sold very soon. It absolutely RIPS on a windy mountain road, but it just doesn't speak to me around town. This will for sure be the last FWD car I'll ever buy.

    I never had an awd sports style car until my 20wrx, consequently i will never not have one again lol. Awd is perfect combo for power and handling. Fwd is fun but so easy to lose grip and same with rwd.

    Maybe race compound tires will help much better. I auto cross in my B18C Supercharged EG Civic with Toyo Proxes RA1. After autocross, i just left the tires on. They are very sticky and will help very much on the street for a cold tire that is front wheel drive, but they will wear out quick driven daily. Or Michelin Pilot sport Cup 2 are very good too for the street...

    We're in similar situations. Early 30s, 2015 wrx traded in after 5 years for a new 2019 type R. I missed my WRX 1st and 2nd gear pulls for the first year and the AWD for a few months, but never looked back. Everything about the type R is better, bar the electronic brake. The wheel hop and lack of traction can be solved with a rear motor mount, 18s and a wider tire.
    I'll be looking at the new STI chassis when it comes out but it will be in addition to the Type R and a Ford Bronco I preordered for variety. Looking forward to seeing additional updates!

    Great great review. The Golf R is boring and has sliding front calipers. On a mountain road the CTR is way more fun, also on a race track. (I have one) But yes, I am annoyed about 1st and 2nd gear traction too. I'll try some even grippier tires (RE-71RS) and see how it goes.

  • @jakubM3

    I sold my 2015 WRX and bought a 2020 Type R. As an enthusiast I appreciate the R, but I can’t help but feel like I’m just killing time while I wait for the a new and properly updated STI...
    ...with the used car market the way it is now, I can actually sell my CTR for more than I bought it for. It might be time to cash in and bank it until the FA STI...

      I have been considering buying a current gen sti. I know that there are some known issues with the motor. But everyone I keep talking to says it is a non issue unless you start modding. I want a fun daily driver. I also live in the pacific northwest, so awd is a plus. I test drove a 19 sti a few months back and immediately fell in love with it. The type r is awfully tempting....just not sure how I feel about buying a car without being able to actually test drive it. There are absolutely none in my area.

    • @jralphroman
      @jralphroman 3 года назад +1

      No it's not... traction issues are ever solved on a front-wheel drive car...you only get less of it by applying less power

    • @tylermorton2057
      @tylermorton2057 3 года назад

      Agree. Put 18's on mine wrapped in Pilot Sport 4S. Even that alone fixes a lot of the traction issues I was experiencing on the stock 20's. Hondata traction control is another great option. I haven't tried the stiffer RMM but I have heard it pretty much resolves any wheel hop you might get even with 350-400 HP going down on the front wheels.
