I wish WSL would change it back to points and not eliminate 1/3 of the comp form the remainder of the year. That’s not a world champ….that’s a bullshit change because the funders are board watching long contest, it was a good idea but should have never been implemented. Everyone that works for WSL is scared to voice there opinion bc of the paycheck… that’s my point of view anyway.
Unfortunately, it’s not as straightforward as you’re making it seem like it is. With contests waiting periods being relatively short if they don’t reduce the number of competitors chances are pretty good that the best waves won’t be available come the Final Rounds. Trust me, I not a fan of it either; but I consider it a necessary evil to advance the sport’s global audience.
Only time will tell if this format is a success.
Wade ripping in his heat in Brazil a couple of years ago will never be forgotten.

His groveling abilities have deteriorated considerably. I doubt he’d qualify. Best he can hope for is a couple wild card entries in the remaining events where he could pull a hat trick. He’ll almost certainly be at Chopes and if it’s firing he’s a favorite. He would have made the final last year if his semi wasn’t so wave starved.

I'm all for the cut.
Tough for the journeymen & women I know, and change always hurts, but, if you're just there making up numbers at an event and will never ever win one than as a surf fan I'm not interested. The Cut will push the journey-folk to send it harder. Better for the spectators.
And remember folks the ASP never made a profit, so if we want this WSL party to continue we have to trust in the people who see the viewer numbers, and have the tough job of signing up sponsors and venues.
