  • This video is for everyone, but especially for women. I want to bring attention to how often women apologize for their appearance and how it affects their confidence and the confidence of the women around them. In this video, I also talk about strategies for increasing your self-acceptance.

If I seem annoyed in the first millisecond, I think it was because I had done a TON of takes on this video and was feeling annoyed with starting over so many times!😆🙃😇

Such a good approach, just easier said than done. But definetly something to think about.

Oh Kendall, this is a wonderful idea. I love the idea of standing up for all women when considering our own appearance. AND YEAH who says we have to be beautiful??? I read The Beauty Myth when I was like 21 or so, and it blew my mind. It's probably not so mind-blowing anymore, decades later, but it changed my self-acceptance trajectory.
My relationship with my body and looks is a loving one. I feel proud of the self-relationship I fostered, since I think technically I'm overweight according to charts. I have a certain neutrality around the looks thing now, especially now that I am 54. I LOVE being invisible-ish in that way that used to get me too much attention from guys.
When people who are used to being more fit start to disparage their own bodies when they gain weight I feel slightly uncomfortable (I guess I know what you think about MY larger body), but it all kinda rolls off my back. I wanna put my energy into other things, like doing good in the world!
I think YOU are doing good in the world by sending out this message to us!

Anne, I truly appreciate all of the thoughts here! And, oh, yes…that BMI…I’ve always felt really weird about it. I remember thinking it a bit strange-even as a kid in PE class, having that pinching clamp literally measuring how much fat we kids all had during the “fitness test.” SO weird! I found out recently that the BMI wasn’t even originally a medical thing. It was created by a mathematician in the 1800s figuring out some mathematical hypothesis based off of only around 7,000 people (all men). Well, anyways…thanks so much for your insights and kind words!

Thank you! I think it’s one that many of us deal with, so I thought it would be good to talk about!
