  • This is my 2021 elk hunt. I backpacked solo into the Colorado backcountry with my bow for 15 days. My first experience both elk hunting and backpacking.
This is a self filmed vlog-style video, so I hope your able to follow along and enjoy what I was able to capture with my iphone.

Finished the video before reading it was your first try at packing in....crazy man...lol. Alone can be a big mental game...kudos for powering thru! Glad you had encounters cause that is a big boost to keep going for sure! Packing out that far back would have probably not been what you wanted to do! Thanks for sharing and good luck next year!!

We hunted that area during 2nd rifle season this year and I'm planning to come back to backpack/bow hunt down that main trailhead and spots where I found rubs. We were gonna backpack like you did until we got a couple feet of snow and crazy cold lol

Thinking of going solo next year. I often think of the pack out if I get one by myself. Perhaps may be line up a packing service in case. Interesting to watch your video, I always try and learn from videos like yours.

Hats off to you. Solo elk hunting isnt easy. Just the mental grind alone is tough. Maybe 2022 will be your year.

Home starts screaming to your mind after a few weeks alone out there. Not to mention the physical abuse over a 2 week period. Nice work👍
Was out there for 8 days at beginning of season this year, was 90° everyday but 2. Hunting partner got sick and couldn't hunt. Heading back solo for the last 5 days.

Nice work. But try to focus more on one or two areas you've heard or seen them. You move too much and revisit some areas. Better off staying in one spot. Elk move and cover alot of territory. May have better chances. Glad you shared your adventures with us. Don't give up bud

your still a greenhorn .solo means your camp goes with you.it takes a lot of time and dedication to learn the elk ,and the country ,along with your limitations and abilities.good luck and stick with it . stay in the bush .you wont turn into a killer watching videos .

Thanks for sharing your hunt. Locating elk is the biggest issue and you have learned a ton by the errors and choices you made, not just by the right choices. E.G. When the big bull got killed, where did his cows go? Who is tending them now. the 2 to 5 satellite bulls would become instant opportunities, but again, you have to find the cows. Oh BTW, you need to fix your mic audio levels, half the time I could barely hear your commentary. You can adjust the levels in post production to normalize the levels and increase them to make the video better. Good luck next year.

Agreed! A lot errors to reflect on and lessons learned this year. Thanks for the heads up about the audio levels, and for checking out the video

How are you going to pack 250 pounds out by yourself? Hope you had a packer set up. Something to think about. We all like born and raised outdoors, but don't have to pack camp around all day everyday. Cool adventure, man. 👍🏻
