Shooting Easton 5mm match grade with stinger magnus 125 and steel collar. Just 8 weeks till opening day in Colorado. Drew elk and mule deer tag for my wilderness area. I’m retired and 67, solo hunt for up to 3 weeks in back country. Your the best Dan love your videos, this is my 15th year elk hunting it’s the best!
@@iCampSometimes2 had 5 moose inside 30 yds didn’t hear any elk but saw a few mule deer. I only saw 1 guy that shot a cow. Pretty warm upper 70 s every day. Still a great time in the mountains 🦃🏕️🏔️
i am obsessed with archery obsessed lol ! with mathews and arrows and components everything , i love your channel it is like my zen watching you and mfjj and tim c , thank you guys ! ive been so much calmer and more relaxed since i started tinkering , ABT
I use a different broadhead, but have found your style is very similar to what i like to rock. Fields and broads have to group out to 90yrds and the QAD is the best all around rest, imo. Good stuff man! Im a huge fan of the RAD stainless broadhead line.
Love it! I’m getting a QAD, I already have px10’s and elk shape hybrids, I can’t wait Dan! Thanks a lot for pushing me. My shoulder hurts I’ve been shooting so much. Hopefully I get my first deer . I’ll keep you guys posted.
Started watching you probably a year or so ago. You MFJJ and Tim are the reason I went to tac this year. Went down the rabbit hole bought a ton of different arrows, 2 bows from JJ. I stay shooting. Don’t Want yall leaving me behind lol.
PERFECT TIMING! Looking at building out arrows for the season to get dialed and set. Love the content and super appreciate everything that you bring to the archery community
Man, going back to Easton because of the X 10s is so tempting but i absolutely love my sirius apollo arrows with ethics components. Sadly they aren’t made in the US but this is the best arrow i have tried. My eastons were slated for .001 but had more wobble than my .003 test kit to see which spine was better for my bow from sirius. I’ve tried gold tip, easton, victory and a few others. If i were to go back to someone other than sirius currently it would be gold tip, then victory, then easton. Maybe 1 day I’ll get to try bishops.
As always, I really dig your content. So far I’m drawn to the hit insert and collar (iron will) cause I like to have as much down into the arrow as possible for strength but that limits to deep six threads on my 4mm’s.
Thanks for all your content. I’ve learned a ton watching you through the years. I was curious on your broad head indexing process. I’ve done the line it up with an already fletched arrow when installing and I’ve also put the tip in hot water to loosen up the hot melt and twisting into place. I never liked sanding the end for dental floss techniques. How do you go about it? Thanks !
There are quite a few options for 4mm inserts now. You can run Iron Will snydercore hit insert, Nexxus halfout with collars, easton titanium outserts, GT outserts, etc etc. I went with iron will but its a deep six. If I go another route it'll be the nexxus system.
You aren't worried about deflection from the 2 blade head? I thought that was a big reason you liked the 3 blades, was less chance of deflection and changing direction in the animal.
Dan, talk to me about the length of these insert/outserts! I really like the idea of a shorter one that doesn’t hang past the carbon as far. Is there a system that’s better? I have a long draw so it’s hard to get arrows as short as possible. I’m running Josh’s outsert on a 4mm arrow now but I can’t stop tinkering.
Supertac 88 is the best hot melt I’ve ever found, Louisiana summers just different than up there and components come out in targets. 88 solved that problem for me and I won’t buy another glue. There’s a study out there on some archery forum showing its strength. I want to say 150pounds of lateral force is required to break the bond.
I shoot the exact same broadheads besides the iron will. I shoot the regular solid single bevel. But that new sevr looks nice! John lusk tested them and they got the highest score of any broadhead hes tested. And the beast I ordered a while ago and they still haven't showed up. But I will see what's up with them. Good luck this season. I don't elk hunt but I'm a hard-core whitetail hunter. I travel to 3 states every year. ( Kansas Ohio and Southern New York. ,)
I’m running a rip tko with podium 30 grain titanium half out and 125 grain Ironwill wide for white tail. Might run a halo. 420 grain with over 16 foc I think it’s gonna hammer. Thanks your for the lessons.
not hating on hot melt, hot melt is great... however we shot 2 arrows into a steel plate; one hot melted, one epoxied.. rip tko, iron will components. Our hot melted arrow split at the collar on the first shot (no shit, its a steel plate, right?) Epoxied arrow shot the plate 6 times before breaking. just something to think about. your mileage may vary.
5 of my 2 piece system mfjj titanium collars fit nice and snug and the other 7 are loose enough to fall off on their own. I’m using the F size on 350 spine vap tko. Do I need to worry about the loose one?
PLEASE MAKE LIGHTER TITANIUM 4MM INSERTS. 55 gr is the absolute lightest i can find. Ive been grinding part of the post off to reduce weight but its still damn near 50 gr.
Are you cutting your arrows shorter to accommodate those inserts or do you cut the proper length and add those? Or is it solely about weight? That seems like a math problem if it’s only about weight.
Honestly. I’m still testing all my gear. I got most of it last season but with this i don’t want to go out and mame an animal. So it might be a couple seasons before i actually go out hunting but damnit, ill be an assassin out there when i do finally get out there. Thanks for the arrow setup, ill be trying this out next 🤙🤙
Ironwill just sent me half dozen complete arrow builds with 1 of each broadhead 125gr. Had to pick my jaw up off the ground literally after shooting 1 of there arrow build setups at long range.
I like the “idea” of shooting an Easton arrow…BUT…the gpi does not get me to the arrow weight and FOC combo I want. I wish they would build 4 and 5 mm shafts at lighter gpi for western hunters like the Black Eagle X-Impact or the Victory RIP HV.
Seriously, this is the most bullet proof arrow I’ve ever seen ANYONE build. Like custom rifle cartridge builds. There’s probably no reason to ever try building a “ better?” if possible arrow.
The hot glue is why the front of the arrow mushrooms. Not strong enough. Collar may help but it’s just more parts to start wobbling and they will 200 percent start to wobble. You’ll be heating and tuning those outserts until the end of time.
I don't understand why staying with a working system is wrong? I mean if a setup bow and arrow work seamlessly why change? Never change a winning team. I understand that tinkering can be fun but it also can be frustrating if you overdo it. It's also cost effktive to change the whole gear every year and I believe some older setups can beat the new bows n arrows. It is mostly the man behind the bow who makes a difference.

Best .166 insert on the market!! Light, extremely durable, easy to adjust FOC with added weight. Love those inserts!

Keep it up!! I love your stuff!! So informative!!
Nice shooting Dan, 90yards!! with broad heads and field points! Quality tuning
Great video and great info. Keep the videos coming. 👍🏻👍🏻😊

Looks like a great set up! Why do you prefer a mechanical for follow up shots? If anybody else knows I’d love to hear why

Just put those inserts in my VAP TKOs, so far love them great quality!
Do you sharpen your broadheads after shooting them into the targets every time?
That would be a waste of time. Youre not trying to kill a target. Just sharpen any used on the target before hunting use.
I made some of these! I had to throw them on the arrow spinner and twist the tip to get them straight

I've been using that glue for a while I also just started building the x 10 with those podium 2 piece insert
Question! have you pushed the micro hades aside for the single bevel broadheads? or do you still like them?
Would like to see the insert a little closer

IW D6 is realllllly hard to beat for 4mm
@@jameshoward7978 agreed. It provides the longest collar for the 4mm.
You going to do any testing on the Sevr hybrid soon? Curious on your thoughts after you try them.
hot melt does not work in southern Arizona its 121 degrees today they will pull out in a foam target.
Is that half out system available for 5mm like gold tip airstrike?
Be interested in seeing the 6mm inserts.
Sonic... yes, 6mm needs to some love. Great to hear

Interested in this supertac 88 you speak of. Where id you pick it up from? Agree summers down south are much different!

Sick arrow setup! It’s almost go time! 🏹
Are you still spine aligning your arrows prior to fletching them and indexing your broad head to match up?
I'm looking for components for 6mm sonics glue in points and or inserts an field points for asa

Found you on accident, but glad I did. I also used to work in the town that the internet says you work so I subscribed.
This is all really cool stuff BUT what about us guys running older gear and lighter poundage?
@ElkShape Are you able to keep your 80# mod and just loosen the limb bolts down to 75# or do you swap mods when going from TAC to Elk Hunting?
My qad broke the night before a 3 week hunt went to Hamskea
How much does that collar slide over the end of the arrow?
Hoping those Sonic components come out soon! The Sonic is a good arrow, but the component options for them have been lacking
Do u guys sell these inserts for a black eagle x impact 400 spine?
Ironwill just sent me half dozen complete arrow builds with 1 of each broadhead 125gr. Had to pick my jaw up off the ground literally after shooting 1 of there arrow build setups at long range.
My ironwills fly flawless too. Don’t know what else I should try lol.
I wonder when MFJJ will have those Sonic components will available.
On the Iron Will Wides, how do you fit them in your quiver? I have the Mathews Low Pro, and I can't figure out how to get them to fit inside the hood.
What nocks do you use with the parallel pros. Thank you
It's funny how fast hunting season sneaks up on me

Darn, I'm struggle at 60 yards accuracy on my bow setting. Still a long way for me to learn and be better.
