I've only recently gotten myself and my wife into the hobby. Started very small and just picked a set and gradually collected it. We have come to really enjoy pulling nice looking cards rather than just focusing on the chase cards. Its sad when you begin and soon realise most people think of 70% + of a pack as trash but it is also humbling when my wife pulls a regular card and comments on the artwork. Thanks for your videos, has been a big help getting into the hobby and understanding a small fraction of how it all works.
I appreicate all the insights on the TCG, bro. Sometimes it does get overwhelming, but its nice when someone can guide and educate on the topic! I think alt arts are going up because people love the the art and how it tells a story; I believe FOMO plays a major role in panic buying / price increase as some of these cards in SWSH dissapear from the store shelves.

I've seen so many posts from collectors are hating the news of a 151 reprint. Like you said, look at evolving skies. Many reprints and that umbreon has still gained value along with many of the cards in the set. I say bring on the 151 reprint. I want to finish the set!
I think in time more and more people will appreciate these cards more and more for how beautifull they actually are. The Gardevoir evolution line alt art is my favorite of all, just love how they take you trough a story with these cards
When I was getting back into collecting, I was always surprised to see how much people follow the trends of buying the chase card even when, imo, some aren't that cool. I‘m playing Pokémon go since a few months again and recently I’m also into Pokémon tcg.. I love the artwork of so many cards. When I was a child I remember I had a binder with almost every 1st edition base set card. Back in the days a friend in school stole it and only returned a few.. otherwise I’d probably still have lots of them since I’m a collector haha. Still good memories saving money to buy a booster and collect my favourite Pokémon ❤ thanks for your videos
Honestly alt arts are why I started collecting. Had to sell my collection to pay for car damages though, had big ones like Gengar and Tina 😢. But I’m aiming to collect them again hopefully they don’t go too high in price.

Pulled a Glaceon Vmax from a premium collection box that had 3 evolving skies packs (first time i’ve opened an older pack). I don’t know whether to hold it or try use it to get a bubble mew. I'm not sure if it's a thing you'd want to do, Phil, but I'd be curious to know what the different factors behind spikes of value in general are and especially how they potentially 'rank' in a tier system, if you like. So for example, seasonal buying (or not spending, such as in January/February), the word of influencers/YT content creators, stock scarcity, artwork, artist, rumours, official news, reprints or no reprints, etc. I'm not sure it's even possible to rank them! But I'm definitely curious as to how you see the relevance and importance of these things as part of the big picture.

Hi great video, i think this type of art establishes a new era in Pokemon tcg, therefore the alternate cards of now (sw and sv) will be the new classics in a few years
Got in during Obsidian Flames, so I missed all the Sword and Shield alternate arts. Not surprised at these price increases considering how fast the newer, more accessible sets are rising in value.
I'm just starting to get into Pokemon collecting. I was more of a sports card guy, but I like what I see with Pokemon more. It's not so crazy expensive to collect interesting and beautiful cards.
I think Alt Arts as well as most cards are a solid investment. They are a new thing over the past few years, and who knows how long they will be around. Look at rainbow rares - in and out over what, 7 years? If art cards ever disappear, then it's only going to grow even more. As sets run out and we move on to new sets, there's a high chance that cards will grow in value.
The Chi-Yu is slept on for such a stunning card! Alt Arts are timeless. They're the kind of card that people take their eyes off when they get distracted by shiny new card types, but always come back to. I've done it myself.
these are some amazing cards and they will do very well pricewise in the long run anyway.. having said that I don't think I have the stomach to buy a card that costs more than $150-200 unless it's something completely unique

Its just crazy how certain cards are sought after but there are just a ton more that are under the radar.

I got my first graded card back today! Squirtle SIR from Stellar Crown in a 10!
I missed the boat on some of those singles. Thank goodness I banked on some sealed. Real hard to justify some of these prices for singles on a budget.
