    That's what I like to see. Your Dad chewing a kernel to test moisture. Never mind all the fancy gadgets that you use!

    Great memories. I followed the harvest in 1965 and we had Massey Super 92 s We worked from Frederick, Oklahoma up to Cutbank Montana. A long hot summer, slept in tents.

    My dad use to do the same thing walk out in the wheat shell out 3 or 4 heads and then say about 1 hr or right after lunch ,the funniest part 3 or 4 people waiting for the verdict would lol when my dad would say 13 percent moisture and then at the elevator 13.5 this is 40 years when combines did not have all the gadgets of today's harvesters 😅

    In 1980 and 81. I worked the harvest. So yes, I have seen storms roll in. The average we got over the two years was 56 bushels . The best I ever saw was in Scott City, Colorado, at 110 .

    🇺🇸 I know you're in the business and all but I've followed a couple Montana dryland farmers for a couple years. Maybe it's just the drought they've been going through but if they didn't show their 10 bushels/acre they wouldn't have much footage 😢!! They weren't proud of the crop, nor ashamed, just happy to get what they did 👍. God bless 🙏

    I bet your Dad can do a taste test on the wheat and be able to give a good estimate on the moisture. That is what you call hands-on experience.

    Hayden , you and your crew are always hard working . I actually have question : At what point it does not make sense for a farmer to harvest . . As off less then X amount of bushels ? What is the magic number ?I assume you guys get paid by the acre . ?!?

    What do the farmers do with the windrows of weeds? It probably too heavy to plant through?

    • @HaydenOnHarvest
      @HaydenOnHarvest  Месяц назад +3

      1. It didn’t leave too bad of a windrow. 2. They should have taken care of business in the fields. You get handed a mess you leave a mess.

      If the farmers sprayed for weeds, you wouldn't have that problem. Some farmers are proactive and some are just plain lazy

    • @edlehman5726
      @edlehman5726 Месяц назад +1

      If your wheat is making 10 bushels, it is not economically feasible to spray the weeds, just avoid the weeds with the combines and let the sweep plows or disc plows take care of the weeds.

    I was beginning to worry whether or not someone got hurt that was so long since the last one. Weather can be beautiful but also can ruin a harvest. Whether the weather be cold, Whether the weather be hot, We weather the weather whether we like it or not!
