  • Join us for our boat tour video of Gem! She is a 2006 PCI Gemini 105mc. A comfortable liveaboard vessel for a couple or small family. Come along and learn more about her! Thank you as always for showing interest in our adventure. The sailing season is quickly approaching, and we are slowly but surely getting geared up to sail parts of the Ionian Sea, and just maybe, a bit further.

      @hintanah_yt  Год назад

      In a sense, yes. Although more of a catamaran 😉 she fits a single slip/berth which is wonderful, and has a single (leg drive) propeller as opposed to twin sail drives. Also, with the bigger mainsail compared to typical catamarans, you have a good point. Up there with monohull performance, just a lot faster and offers catamaran liveability. A very nice compromise between the two in fact 👌🏽 We love her layout! Cheers 🫡⛵️💎

    Been thinking about shipping my 105Mc to the Peloponnese. I'm a Greek American and would love to sail around Argoan Gulf, Ionian the the islands. What marina are you at? What's the story with the flooring aboard Gem? I've never seen Dri-Deck everywhere like that. Is the normal flooring there underneath?

    • @hintanah_yt
      @hintanah_yt  Год назад +1

      Hi Frank. The west of Greece and the Med in general should be a great place to sail the Geminis! You'll have a great time if you do send yours over! There's another 105mc owner in the States or maybe Canada who is possibly planning to sail over to the Med. Maybe an opportunity for you guys to buddy boat over if you're open to sailing her over! We are based in Preveza currently, just North of Lefkada. The flooring is simply light carpeting to protect the flooring from dogs paws, haha. It also helps to keep our feet warmer during the winter months. The normal flooring is below, and still in great condition 👍🏼 Thanks very much for your comment, and good luck with your plans to bring your Mc over if it works out!

    • @hintanah_yt
      @hintanah_yt  Год назад +4

       @Eddy barrett irrigation what does a ballpark figure help, when asked for THE price? We have no issue revealing the cost, and it's our decision to do so in a more private manner. There are numerous reasons for not revealing the price. One simple reason is that maybe it is a planned topic for a future video (it's not).. Another is that we are part of an underground syndicate that aims to buy all the Geminis to inflate the market price and gain the monopoly of the small sailing catamarans used market. We'll remain on RUclips for the time being 😂 Feel free to subscribe and offer us some positive input in our future videos. Thanks for the banter 😊

    Do you think she’s capable to safely sail oceans?

    • @hintanah_yt
      @hintanah_yt  10 месяцев назад +2

      I believe she's more than capable, and there have been many Geminis which have completed successful crossings. The trick would be to keep her light, well equipped for the passage, and choosing a suitable weather window, preferably sailing downwind! If that criteria is met, I don't see them having many issues at all.

    • @overlandingomar
      @overlandingomar 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@hintanah_yt thank you for that. So you think structurally they’re reasonable sound. I’m after an economical catamaran that doesn’t break the bank, but can still sail the big oceans.

    • @hintanah_yt
      @hintanah_yt  10 месяцев назад +1

      @overlandingomar You're welcome. I'd suggest, during your search, to include Prouts, Privilege and Dean catamarans. They are Bluewater ready, tried and tested. I think they all have a similar bridgedeck clearance, so you can expect some slamming and noise inside during passages, but they are strong and structurally sound, as is the Gemini. If you settle on a Gemini, be sure to check the state of the bulkheads and the chainplates, the tabbing in the aft cabins where it is glassed to the wooden half bulkheads. Ensure that the buoyancy compartments are water tight, and check the integrity of the centerboard bolts. If all those come back to be found in a good state, them you may have a well cared for Gemini. If you are in the States, you'll have a good amount of choice of Geminis, and should be able to negotiate a good price. In Europe, they are scarce, and hold a higher price in general.
      In my own experience this far, I haven't pushed my Gem in any heavy weather. I've been bow/beam on in 2/2.5 meter choppy swell and she was fine, just a bit noisy. They sail well, are well thought out, and easy to manage under said and motor. A beginner friendly boat for sure. I don't have plans to cross oceans with her as yet, but we'll do crossings from country to country across the Mediterranean. If I decided to cross the Atlantic, because I'm still inexperienced, I'd feel better having a buddy boat, or experienced crew aboard.
      All in all, I think she'll handle ocean crossings, is strong enough to do so, and should be comfortable if you have suitable weather during the passage! Planning is everything, and boats are usually much stronger than we think they are!
      Hope that helps you!

He's done a lot of work on it, and swears it's stronger than it was out of the factory. Maybe something you can look into! Good luck with your search! Maybe a couple of seasons in the Mediterranean is a good start for you, the boat prices are a bit better here, in Greece! Cheers 👍🏼⛵️💎

    There is nothing about this cat that is performance. They are a coastal cruiser at best. Too narrow, limited bridgdeck clearance, no trampolines and too much weight in the bows. ……

    • @hintanah_yt
      @hintanah_yt  Год назад +5

      Hello 👋 Thanks for your input. I'm curious as to how you came to the conclusion that it was a performance catamaran or anything other than a coastal cruiser? I certainly didn't state that, or anything along those lines in this video. I did say that it was built by a company called PCI (Performance Cruising Inc.) But that's the name. Not much I can do about that. In its defense, many have crossed oceans. And I know of 1, at least that has circumnavigated. But yet, I did not claim it is meant for that purpose. Your points on the bridgedeck clearance is fair in my experience, it does cause some slapping close hauled or with bow on waves/swell. The solid foredeck is perfect for us- it has it's pros and cons. All boats do. The bows I have no issue with. Don't overload the boat. It's a fast cat, good upwind, comfortable downwind, spacious, comfortable in general and sailed easily short or single handed. For us, the pros outweigh the cons. If we decide to sail the world's oceans we'll look for an aluminum Bluewater cat in the 40ft range. Anyway, if you can please let me know where exactly I insinuated anything about the vessel being a performance boat, that would be helpful. Cheers 👍🏼
