ThruDark is a brand on the rise and their gear is becoming more and more popular but it comes at a premium. Is their high end outdoor wear worth the money?
Good honest review mate 😊, Been wearing there stuff from the start and being an ex booty (Royal Marine) myself........I am a little favoured towards there gear. I believe in what you pay for is what you get and with the TD kit its defo up there as some of the best. There will always been gremlins in developing kit and what you bring to market, some favoured more than others but in the whole there kit is (I feel) worth it. On a negative, Unfortunatly the more it goes main stream and how there business model is growing the less I will probably use as I can see it one day either been like the bigger brands of Northface or Berghaus........good to see a review of the kit on here though 😊👍🤙
Thanks Gavin and good to get the perspective of an ex Royal Marine like yourself 👌 I do love their kit but you’re right it’s probably at a bit of a sweet spot before it goes super mainstream. Be interesting to see where the brand goes from here. Thanks for watching!
I have got a load of there kit and love all of it. My Raid jacket was 550 quid but it gets worn to work most of the year , lobbing a heavy ruck sack on and off in the day. still as good as new and it is 4 years old now. well worth the money. Loads of comments about the T shirts, wash and tumble dry mine and never had an issue
Good honest review. I agree in the main. I’ve never got something full price, always discount code of at least 15% or their 20-30% offers. Never get the sports t shirts and clearly cheaper alternatives and nothing that comes from China. The shroud? Who gives a f if it’s a changing robe, oversized coat or a shifter jacket lol how many people wear full on military gear and this jacket?!? How many people climb Everest when they wear NorthFace? I wear mine to cut the grass in the rain - sue me. End of days is quality especially for £850 not £1250. The skirmish and Aigis are excellent waterproof jackets. The fleeces and new improved thick hoodies/jumpers are also great. If it comes from Portugal or Italy then I’m in. If it’s china then no thanks and I’m 1/2 Chinese! Only issue I had was with the flannel shirts. All shrunk. So I sent them back for full refund.
The Phallanx fleece us dog shiz kid, stick to cutting the grass in it all and you can't go wrong I guess...do some expeds in this gear and you'll soon regret it.
Yeah some of there gear is exceptional quality for sure. That’s good to know about the flannel shirt as I was considering getting one! Thanks for watching 👌
I’ve got a few bits and the quality is top notch. But I’ve never paid full price and get blue light discount as well as wait till the sales come. Plus I got my Recoil coat second hand. £400 was way too much, but half that represented value IMO.
I am new to your channel, great, honest review, have you reviewed Jottnaar yet? another ex forces led brand, apologies if you already have 👍I am a sucker for Fjallraven and just cant see by that brand right now
@@harryruns1 pretty sure they’re 2 ex Royal Marines who set up the brand, I’ve heard big things about them. Again high end prices, I’ll probably pull the pin on something from them soon.
Good honest review mate, I used to love them but feel the quality has massively gone down hill lately. I think it maybe down to them spreading there selves too thin. It feels like they’re just sticking a TD badge on anything at the moment from cycling gear to flannel shirts. It’s funny you say you wouldn’t wear a Rab to the pub where as serving lads wouldn’t wear TD stuff to the pub( I don’t know many that would wear it at all) totally agree ref gym t shirts they’re v comfy and well made but no real difference from the likes of gymshark
I want to like Thrudark more than I do. The military aspect is kind of cool (which they do push, just observing not judging), but the big draw would be a UK brand that is top level. I don’t like the cut of their trousers (too skinny at the ankles and still, bizarrely have Velcro adjusters to cinch them down) and I’ve found their sizing to not be the most consistent. I find their advertising / marketing too pushy and edgy, lovely looking website but often difficult to see details of garments. Very high pricing. Some odd seam placement on a Centurion jacket (I am constantly aware/conscious of them when wearing under a hard shell). That said, some of their items I love in terms of function. Like I said, I want to like them more…..but it’s not easy. Also, I wish they made a hard shell that had a stowable hood. But then I wish that about other companies too.
I've never heard of them, I'm not in the UK though. I suppose some premium-priced gear might be worth it if you wear it a lot and get a lot of use out of it. But 90 quid for a T-shirt is just ridiculous.
Definitely, I think it’s potentially worth investing if you are training for something specific and need premium gear but there is no need to spend £90 on a gym top
@@harryruns1Do anyone NEED a 90£ gym top ? Fuck no. But as someone who train 6 times a week, I sure as hell want the most comfortable, functional and badass dress I can have so it's worth it.
I’m a wavering fan of this brand…TD made some excellent crossover clothing but recently I’ve noticed some of their T shirts previously sourced in Portugal and are/were of excellent quality are now made in China…I recently sent one back I purchased as it was shockingly poor quality with a made in China tag. Location of manufacture was not shown on their website, but they are keen to tell you that other pieces are made in Italy or Ukraine etc…what a shame…disingenuous to say the least…as a previous post indicated…TD are running a bit of a risk by growing their business model and ignoring brand loyalty and quality…
That’s not good to hear, hopefully they don’t go down the path of making cheap quality gear to increase profits. I think their reputation will quickly go downhill if that is the case, thanks for watching
One more thing: for true quality comparison one has to check likes of Arc'teryx Leaf, not North Face or similar mid market brands. ThruDark is OK even if overpriced, but not nearly top notch in anything but their online advertising.
2 issues with TD is the sizing and the fit. The t shirts shrink and the sizing is all over the place you can order 2 shirts of the same type like the Recon and both fit differently. One wash and they shrink too….. Hoodies are very good The water proofs are hit and miss It’s becoming more of a fashion brand on the terraces than a legit outdoor wear apparel IMO
Yeah I agree with a lot of that. Some of their kit I find to be legit outdoor wear but some of it is more for fashion over purpose. I've had T shirts of theirs shrink after a wash to frustratingly. Thanks for watching
If you’re someone who actually does hiking, climbing, adventures stuff often then I think majority of the clothing is fairly reasonably priced. If you’re none of those things and just like the clothing then it is definitely no point in getting them other than a few t-shirts that are on the cheaper end.
Not at all. It’s in the same ballpark as other brands in the category. Obviously if you want mountain warehouse then go get it. No different to anything in life
@@harryruns1These super veterans say they make this stuff because they had to customise their surplus issued kit my question is at these prices who is buying it to wear while on operations, absolutely nobody at all they’re in it for the money
The problem I have is mates rates or loyalty card. I went for WRAITH woke up at 0600hrs on the day it came out and all 3xl black sold out. Its bs the kit is great my phalanx fleece had for over two years and is still as good as the day I bought it. But this is bollocks in my opinion so I will no longer be purchasing from them but I wish them success 🙏
I have some of their stuff (out of curiosity) and find it mediocre in quality and design. Thread ends hanging loose, sloppy run of the mill design. Made in Portugal does not mean a thing when likes of Arc'teryx can source perfect quality from China and Bangladesh. It is the attitude, quality control and the machinery used that matters, not the country where it is done in. They are riding reasonably successfully on the image alone, I have to admit that. Consistent advertising speaking loudly to wannabe Black Operators (like me, but I also have ranger background). One example of the design problem: Cargo pockets in their shorts: Top brand Arc'teryx can design thigh pockets which are almost unnoticeable when empty (Combat Pants gen2 as an example), and still function as dump pockets when needed. 5.11 Tactical has similar cargo pockets in their Stryker pants and shorts, flat sewn front AND several inner compartments for phone etc, stuff is not just sloshing around there. What has ThruDark designed: just a big ugly box sewn into the pant thigh, flapping around empty or full. They need to rethink several things to stay in the run. They are not a serious contender yet.
Tshirts are sh1t, no better than far cheaper alternatives. Phallanx fleece, dog sh1t, cut is all wrong for the sizes, that seem across the chest is ridiculous which proves NO R&D behind it. Shroud (its a changing rode, stop lying) not bad but better/cheaper alternatives out there. Yet to meet meet anybody that isnt swoon by the fact its "S.F" kit and actually thinks its good on expeds...theres a reason for that... Its doggers.
@user-xq1bt9du1f points made in the original post fella, the kit I've had off them is all over priced gear, it's extortionate because people associate the kit with SF and there's dar cheaper an better alternatives out there for actual expeds and not just walking ya dog or doing the garden in.
@@FugPig Fair enough. I’m only asking as you only mention the Phallanx fleece, nothing else. You wouldn’t use the shroud on an exped.
