Railfanning Effingham IL August 3, 2012

Well early on the morning of Friday August 3rd Ryan and I headed up to Railfan the dimonds at Effingham IL and it was maybe the best day railfanning there I have ever had. It was very busy on both CSX and CN, the only thing i wish i could have seen is more CSX power but hey the CSX local i got had a great horn show. and I got so many horn shows today. from CN CSX and a few other trains. so here is the info for the Trains I caught on August 3rd 2012:

Nice video...CN's symbols represent east/west also, not just n/s, therefore odd numbers sometimes go south on IC. These are CN's trains thru Effingham:
Southbound:Q194, M342, M397, M399, M336, M371,
and usually 2-4 extras such as X399, X342, L590, L598, grain
Northbound: Q195, M343, M396, M398, M335
and 2-4 extras such as X398, L591, M370, Q197, coal, mty grain, etc
There's morning & evening switch jobs, either can roam north or south (the evening job usually works the branch to Newton.)

It IS M398. M398/M399 are the odd trains out of the other CN trains, M398 northbound, M399 southbound.
Kinda like how CSX Q687 is eastbound and Q686 is westbound (while other eastbound CSX trains here have an even number for their last digit and westbound CSX trains have an odd number for their last digit).

M398's destination was changed a year or two ago to Gary, Indiana. The UP still calls their train ID MNLTT because they're too lazy to change it :P
Nah, I really don't know why they haven't changed the "TT" part on that ID yet. M399 still comes out of Toronto (TT) which is strange. M399 on the UP is MTTPB to Pine Bluff, AR.

No they changed the destination to Gary, IN a while ago but UP still uses symbol MNLTT

Nope M398 is definitely a Northbound Train. It's a North Little Rock, AR to Gary, IN train

that would be either M397 or M399 because it was a northbound and northbounds have the odd symbol number digit last and southbounds have even number. lets take A431 for example its a Northbound and its counterpart A432 is a Southbound

I forgot to add A432 and A431. Your 4 sb manifests look like in order: M397, A432, M336 or an extra, and M342. The nb is M398 or X398.
