  • Five women attempt to bike the Canol Heritage Trail, where a pipeline was built and then abandoned shortly after World War Two. On July 20, 2017 they started in Whitehorse for the 12-day, 600 kilometre journey from the Yukon border to the North West Territories. Complications arise early for the women who are physically and mentally tested beyond their expectations.
Caitlin DuBiel, from Prince Rupert, retells the tale of how the women fared in some of the most challenging terrain in the North.
The film is a collaboration with Hannah Johnston, Sinead Earley, Rohanna Gibson, Caitlin DuBiel and Gabriela Stephens, who collected the images and videos of their expedition, and Shannon Lough, a journalist and videographer, who interviewed Cait and edited the images to create "The Canol Doc."

Thanks for the video! I’m a motorcycle adventure rider, I’ve ridden to the Arctic Ocean 4 times, also rode to Ushuaia Argentina. I’ve stayed at Ross River a few times but couldn’t make it up the North Canol last time because the ferry was closed. I’ll be making at least one more trip this year and plan on taking Canol road to at least the NWT boarder.
Amazing history, I took the foot bridge in Ross River and found a piece of the original pipe line that I will use in my metal art as a remembrance. I’m 74 and travel solo.
    Take care

What hiker/bikepacker has enough money to have a mountain bike wheel flown into the middle of nowhere? Or to pay a helicopter to fly them to a random spot to catch up with friends?

Great story! My grandfather was among the Canol builders (and a Man of the North!), so I truly appreciate your efforts to document this journey! Maybe I can still make the trip....🫎 😎✌️
