Hi Pete, great informative videos and a pleasure to watch, can I ask some advise please, I have just bought the R160 after watching you giving give the thumbs up for an inexpensive but good performer of home spray work
I'm spraying a scooter and want to put a 3mm metallic orange pinstripe between two colours which are white and metallic silver, I have the fine line tape
Should I airbrush the orange first, fine line over it and then mask off each side separately and paint the other two colours and can I tape over the base orange or should use intercoat to lock it in before taping over it, I have read different advise saying you can tape over base coat without it peeling off when pulling the tape and others say never tape straight over base coat especially if it's metallic

Hi Rob, As you have probably heard the old saying, there's more than one way to skin a cat, so there are a few ways to do what you want.
I have and often do put fine line over basecoat and haven't had any problems, it's by far the easiest and fastest way to do it, you do need to allow the basecoat to dry properly, so say an hour at 20c before you apply the tape, also use a good tape like jtape.
You can put a basecoat binder or clear basecoat over it which gives you a little more insurance and can help with metallic especially if it's course as it helps stop laying the metallic partials down and flat, this i haven't found a problem in any normal off the shelf paints as the partials are only very fine.
The full insurance is to spray some 2k clear over it instead of a intercoat, that way if it bleeds or something you can easily start again, also just be careful any overspray from the orange strip doesn't affect the colour going over it, ie it doesn't make it look a different shade where its overlapping if you get what i mean.👍
