      @@sigfigronath city fan here, this season, since walkers injury we've been tucking in stones at right back into the midfield contingent. City play the exact same system but usually with a contorted 3-1 compared to arsenals 2-2. I've noticed odegaard sits deep more than someone like kev in city. He and xhaka interchange that pivot. Rodri usually pivots with a midfielder coming back rather than having that extra coverage. Arsenal benefit more imo as both saliba and Gabriel are quicker than any of the cb pairings at city. Plus none of our left backs can defend

    this structure is also benefited from Ben White who was initially a CB, and Tomiyasu as well (if Zinchenko didn't play). I noticed when other teams Full Backs started to get exposed by the winger and the CB have to track the winger, they got no cover behind them. But with Arsenal, when Gabriel tracked the winger, Saliba already in the Left CB position and White will try to occupied the Right CB position. in the other side, If White got exposed by the winger, and Saliba had to track the winger, White intead will run back straight to the Right CB position, so Arsenal basically don't have any problems if their defenders swaping places to stop the attack. this is a brilliant structural tactics by Mikel Arteta.

White is the most underrated of the trio & does a lot for the team. Everything from in possession / passing to his recoveries / tackles is better than most give him credit for. And of course, Saliba. I feel as though if it were different players on the pitch instead of that Chelsea attack… Arsenal get punished. The Liverpool goal (Nunez) come to mind and some chances missed by Palace in their opener. Regardless, Arsenal completely nullified Chelsea and deserved the 3 pts

    How would a team counter a 2-3 or 3-2 Rest-Defense? Would teams have a numerical advantage if they threw 6 attackers at the opposition?

    • @busybody783
      @busybody783 2 года назад +1

      Nobody is gonna throw 6 attackers at us even city won’t risk it, with our wide men and midfield who can give line breaking passes or over the top they’ll get exposed. The only thing they can do is press us in our own half and try to force mistakes from us and attack quickly

    You are right but in the Man U match they totally exploited the spaces. Can you make a video on what went wrong in that match?It was almost the same strategy and the same players. But Antony totally destroyed Arsenal unlike Sterling.

    But how do you assess if they are actually being lucky? To be honest for me Saliba and Gabriel had encounter many not desired situations this season... They somehow managed (like in this example)... But I think is due to luck... Can you confirm that this style of playing is justified by the individual skills of their center backs (by using their marking stats)?

      Luck is always part of anything. Players will always make mistakes, whether in attack or in defence.
      The point is to get the luck to minimum.

    the first chance , you are a bit wrong that one. If havertz had played the ball diagonally backwards, then he would've found an unmarked aubameyang. Instead Havertz fluffed his pass and overhit it so it flew past the entire penalty area.
    Though arsenal "had it covered", had havertz looked up and spotted aubameyang's run into that free space away from goal and saliba.

    • @Qlicky
      @Qlicky 2 года назад

      If's and but's are pointless.
      If attacking teams always chose the the best option there would be 10 goals a game. And conversely, If defending teams always defended perfectly, there wouldn't be any goals at all.
      Tactics are there to limit the other team and make yours better. It's impossible to nullify threat altogether vs decent teams.
      The fact is that Arsenal restricted Chelsea to one shot on goal in the entire match. And they were the home team.

    • @rcmanization
      @rcmanization 2 года назад

      @@Qlicky sure, but what you are saying now is kinda irrelevant here because i'm not saying that players always need to chose the best option. i'm just saying that arsenal's tactics is not what thwarted the attack as the video insinuates. arsenal's defensive tactics often works but in this particular case it didnt really work coz saliba didnt spot aubameyang's movement in the box at all and got fooled.

    • @Qlicky
      @Qlicky 2 года назад

      @@rcmanization So, it's not about tactics then, it's about an individual player not following instructions.
      The point of tactics is that it usually works. If it worked 100% of the time it wouldn't be tactics.
      Look at it this way. If you play counter-attacking and your strikers get chances and miss sitter after sitter, tactics still work. It's just that your strikers are not scoring.

    • @bobbysuger
      @bobbysuger 2 года назад

      @@Qlicky in this case I think it's a case of both, because the tactic is created so that in the end it will be down to individual brilliance of the CB to thwart opponent players should they be able to expose our defensive tactic (which they did when they counter-attacked us and Zinchenko was out of position). And in this case, Auba made a really good run so the tactic relying on the fb's being able to pick runs up didn't work.
      Luckily the opponent passer sucked so nothing came of the chance

    Awesome analysis. I think I would add that Arsenal need a more efficient LCB who can compete with Gabriel especially in winning back the ball and isn't as prone to the mistakes that Gabriel makes ocassionally.
    If we do get Evan Ndicka in January I think that's a very good player for our system: quick, decisive, can put in a challenge & is good on the ball. I think the several times that Gabriel switched across the left to stop Sterling he wasn't as successful whearas Ndicka is more agile and decisive in tackling.
    Much as I like Gabriel, I think a Ndicka-Saliba partnership would be amazing. They're both French so I reckon they'd have better communication between them.
