The piece is appropriately played on a period instrument that was made during Chopin's era, and one can get a feel of what the piece would have sounded like over a hundred years ago. Lovely.
Very interesting performance! Not just the sound of the Pleyel but the dynamics too. Some of the dynamics she does, I've not hear even in the legends' playing
Totally agree. Every single note fantastically performed and beautifully recorded with a great piano! Hats off to Madam Nakamichi. You made the best version of all we’ve enjoyed.
very nice. It's great to hear a Pleyel. some have noticed that this is played in c minor--no, it is in the key of C# minor; however, the pitch of this piano is not A=440 but A=432 (1/2 step lower than today's modern pitch--so, C# has the pitch of modern, C). I wish it had been tuned to a system that Chopin may have used. This is too close to equal temperament. Going from consonance to dissonance and back in historical temperaments is a revelation. Very nice performance and enjoyable, thank you.
Very wonderful performance on an equally stunning piano. If you are ever in the Boston area, you should make a visit to the Frederick Collection in Ashburnham, MA.
@vikingmerijn Your observation of these pianos is exactly what I have seen as well. They are much lighter, clearer, and less percussive than a modern grand.
Even before I read that the piano was an Chopin era Pleyel I said to myself that I liked the sound of the piano. Ikuyo is one of the better performers on this piece, but my standard of perfection on 64-2 is Rubinstein.
I think this gentle flowing sound is also the best. Her performance has a wonderful attraction that captivates the audience.

Ikuyo has a soothing feather touch that suits the fragile style of Chopin. Delicate and graceful. Thank you Ikuyo San.
This performance is realy good.
This is the best interpretation I have ever heard.

belle performence, son et image magnifique, bravo
It was very nice, played with feeling. I have heard many artists playing this piece and they think it's a race to get to the end :)
I heard many variations, but this is the best!

One of the best performance for me .and Rubeinstain also
Sensitively played

thanks for the comment, so useful!
@IceCookieDemon No, the waltz was written in C-sharp minor.

this has quality
@gesternabend Yesss.
Japanese nice pianist !
I wonder what brand her dress is?
a half step down from C# minor.. The pianos in those days were not tuned to A 440.
Of course!! She plays in the classical pitch, A=432Hz!!
(Sony Music SICC19006~7)
That old piano... Stays in tune for what? 5... Maybe ten minutes?
430Hz?
Probably 432Hz. When she use playel piano, she play in432 Hz, she says usualy.
This almost sounds like C minor!
She played well...but to the tuner: better luck next time. :\

This is solo untuned :|
She plays in the classical pitch. So it is not untuned, at all!!
shame the piano is out of tune .... she playing nice
