Hi Bob. Love your reviews, but this one had me scratching my head. The software system in this vehicle is identical to the 330d you had, which you loved. I think the connectivity issues you had would be fixed with a software reboot, which you can do yourself in 5 mins. As other viewers have pointed out Lane departure can not only be switched off, but can also be adjusted in severity. So you can have it on a more gentle setting. What you have in a 330i is a 160mph car that can deliver 50 mpg on petrol on a long journey, which I think is remarkable.
In VWs you press the button to lock twice and it disables the deadlock so you can leave living things like humans inside. The alarm will still go off if a door gets open from the inside. I like the deadlock system and i dont think it should be banned, its a resposibility of the driver to be aware about it.
I am fairly certain that if you go into the settings you can decide if you want it to deadlock or not and also what doors it should open. You just need to change the factory default.
I said in the video it can't be altered, I can't find a setting, I wasn't making that up. I spent 30 mins going through every combination that's available only to find that Allen here is "fairly certain" that he knows the setting. Pray, show me the setting Allen 🤔
Not trying to be cheeky Bob. I looked online to find the BMW manual . I found a set of instructions that said that you can change these settings in the profile section of the car. I could be wrong however as I have looked this up online and have never done this in person. It said to adjust unlock preferences in the profile section . Sorry if I sound cheeky . Just trying to help .
@@allenthomas5000 Yer grand, I'm just being a smart ass! They all have different settings but the Irish press cars from BMW all seem to have problems with locks on the cars.
This just really puzzles me as an engineer. The solution seems so simple: people should ALWAYS be able to get OUT of the car when they're INSIDE and it's not driving, just not INTO the car from the OUTSIDE when it's locked.

@@jan-willemvanewijk1006 You're not much of an engineer.
Many cars have a button you can press to disable the interior motion sensors, so the car be locked while occupied or the windows left open without the alarm going off. In that mode the deadlocks usually don't activate when locking.
BMWs are just not setup properly from the factory, that's why apps like bimmercode/ bimmerlink is so important, you gain access to the ECU and all programming features to set the car way exactly the way you want, from how the car locks to movies in motions to how bright the angel eyes are, everything is customizable.

I know exactly what you mean about the lane keeping being forceful.. 840d on 40mph road, I was doing 35mph push the indicator up to overtake a cyclist it only does the 3 indications instead of constant on, as I pull out to overtake the cyclist it forcefully steered me towards the cyclist to keep me in the lane and had to wrestle with the wheel to avoid him... after that I was so put off the new technology it won’t be getting ticked on my next car.
Great review. I just purchased a 330i m sport for my wife. Brought it home and n the same day, the rear and 360 degree camera stopped working. Have you come across this issue? Hard to believe a $57,000 bmw would have this issue the same day I bought it.
great video of the tree series but i do think bob needs to do more research on cars before making the video as he seems unsure about many aspects of the car ..
Many interesting points, I didn’t know the steering wheel can be SO noisy, and the gap at the thigh extension need to be cleaned ALL the time. But you forgot to mention there is also a thing called gas tank that needs to be filled all the time which is very disappointing...
I recon the doors should unlock when the inside door knob is operated, try it (at least the driver door should open), if not if I recall correctly in most if not all BMWs there should be a door unlock big button in the cabin. As regards the other gremlins, the car play is totally dependant on the phones connection to the system. You might have highlighted a problem with the phone, not necessarily the car. Granted future updates (especially on the phone end) would improve reliability to the system, but I would be more careful when using the word glitches. Also, BMW makes inline 6 engines, they are world renowned for that. As regards lane assist, that is technology we do not need. Of course it will fight you to keep in lane, that is what it is designed for, again, no glitch in that, it was doing what it was designed for. Nowadays these technologies makes cars less desirable because they are getting increasingly detached from the driver. I recon, a car stereo with gps and hand free (Bluetooth) functionality is all we really need, but that may be me. Good review except for the word glitches, they are simply technologies you do not need , like or have the knowledge or patience to operate correctly to enjoy their benefits (if any).
Regarding your comment about the deadlocks - well what be the point in having deadlocks if they didn't deadlock when you walked away?! The car always, and rightfully, assumes it needs to be fully secure when you leave it. If your family are remaining in the car then the onus is on YOU to change it with the key as you walk away (a feature which BMW should build in if they already haven't) to just standard lock so that they can get out while you're gone - then once the door(s) close after they get out the car should deadlock all doors.
I bought a BMW 330i in July and the navigation and bluetooth wasn't working the next day. I brought it in about a week later. They did't update me and didn't give me a loaner car. They got me a shitty rental car. After 3 weeks they couldn't fix it that they gave me a new replacement car. The problem with this one is the headlight sometimes won't turn off that I don't notice it till I come back to the car. The customer service is real shitty that I wish I got a Mercedes or something else.
My BMW keys are programmed in different ways. One key only opens the drivers door The other unlocks all the doors. The car can be unlocked from inside by pressing the padlock symbol. Presume your car would have this?
I think a lot of your complaints would be solved by attending a free "genius" session. The controls aren't hard to master. There is a driver's manual programmed into the car. The voice recognition option can help too. Don't like dark interiors? Then don't get black upholstery and live under mostly cloudy Irish skies. Don't like the black grille or hard ride? Then don't get the sport package. I agree with you about Apple CarPlay. Maybe others like it but I'm not impressed with it, plus you have to pay for it ($80/yr in the US) after the year free subscription is up. The BMW iDrive works fine for me.
VAG group also have this safe lock system that lock all the doors from the inside when you walk away. In my A4 B9 instruction there is even mentioned to not leave kids inside car when you walk away :)
I was locked in like that in a Volvo V70. It usually happens if you accidentally lock the car from outside. THAT WAS PANIC being locked in like that! Should be banned on cars!!! 😡 But it is a function many brands offer I believe.
