    You should have added that some Schengen countries allow passport holders who have had visa exemptions before the Schengen agreement got into effect still allow a stay for another 90 days. For example: you can stay in the Schengen area for 90 days and can still for another 90 days in Denmark if you hold a passport of a country that had visa exemption agreements prior to Schengen: some of these are Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, or the United States.

    Has anyone here taken advantage of the bilateral agreements for US citizens? I sometimes hear about them but am nervous to try since I've never heard of people going from a 90 day trip in the Schengen Zone to another 90 days in Spain or France or anywhere that claims to have an agreement with the US.

      Real confusing for me as well. So what you're implying is that you can't reset your visa by leaving the Schengen then returning? You have to stay out for as long as you were in. Half of any 180 day period needs to be outside the zone?? You did not actually say that but I guess it is what you meant.

    • @xythiera7255
      @xythiera7255 2 года назад

      @@andywalkernz Basicly you have the EU with all his members some of this country are in the shanhen area and some arnt . Shangen area is like a free travel zone . If you apply for a shangen visa then you can travel betwin all members in the EU that are in this area for 90 days max . But this visa doesnt apply for any countey thats not part of this area you will need to get a sepret visa for this countrys . If you want to stay for 180 days thats the max time for non EU citicen you have to apply for a long turm visa but this visa only applys for 1 country in the EU but not for the intire zone . So when your Visa runs out you have to leave the EU border and can only apply for a new visa after 180 days . And leaving the EU even if you haveing stayed for your max time spend also voids your visa and you have to reaply .

    Thank you for the info!!! My question is what happens after those 180 days? When they finish and you want to re enter the schengen zone the time starts counting from 0 again?
    I'll be based in the UK for 6 months, but my flight is from Mexico to Spain with a layover of one day, and then to London the next day. (so I think my 180 days will start then).
    After those 6 months in the UK I'm planning to go to italy for 90 days. Thats why I'm wondering if the 180 will start counting again or if I need to wait certain time.

    • @TravelingwithKristin
      @TravelingwithKristin  4 года назад +2

      Hi Erika! For the UK, it's 180 days per calendar year so it can be consecutive or broken up. If you stay for 180 days then you would need to wait another 180 before re-entering. After Italy you could spend 90 days in a non-Schengen country like Bulgaria, Romania, Cyprus, Ireland, etc. Hope this helps!

    • @TravelingwithKristin
      @TravelingwithKristin  5 лет назад

      Hi Boy V World, it depends how long you are inside and out of the Schengen. How many days will you be in Greece? You can stay in the Schengen for up to 90 days per 180 days. You can stay in Cyprus for an additional 90 days (during the same 180 day period because it's non-Schengen). If you only stay in Greece for 30 days, for example, you can leave then come back in.

      You can stay 90days with a shangen Visa means you can travel got 90 days betwin all Shangen areas without restrictions if you want to stay 180 days you have to apply for a long turm visa that only applys to 1 area not the intire EU shangen area so you only can stay in 1 EU country but you cant move any were els . And after your max 180 days you have to leave the EU and have to apply for another visa and no your visa does not count anymore as soon as you leave the EU borders you have to reapply for a new visa . You can apply to a Multi visa that allows you to reenter the Shangen area after leaveing another time but it also runs only 90 days so you have to reenter the EU shangen area in a time spane of 90 days it also runs when you arnt in the EU border . If you dont have one of this multi enter vias then you have to apply for a new one .

      Hi there! It is possible to leave the airport to see Amsterdam. The airport is close to the city center by train. You would just need to go back through check in and security. Whether or not you need a Schengen visa or if you have visa on arrival depends on your passport. You can check on visahq.com or with the embassy

Or if I go to Croatia or Cyrus then back to North Scandinavia?

      @AK-qv2im 3 года назад

      Well it’s complicated :) Generally speaking you can’t stay in European Union territory more than 90 days in every 180 days period. Bulgaria is not in Schengen zone but is European Union member state. So it is looks like staying there is staying like in Sweden. For breaking this 90 days period you should leave EU territory, not only Schengen Zone. I am not sure what about Ireland is now. There are in EU but the have special agreements with UK for travel purposes. So this is another case I think.

      @@xythiera7255 well, technically If you are British citizen only you just can’t stay in European Union more than 90 day in every 180 days. If you do this you just broke Schengen codex / EU immigration law. This mean you can be banned to enter next time to EU. This is famous case of British citizens living in Spain. They come back en masse to UK even if they possess in Spain house or flat. Between Ireland and N.Ireland control border doesn’t exist but this not mean that British citizen can stay in Rep. of Ireland more than 90 days. Obviously nobody check this form technical reasons.

    Hi Kristin! I came across your video as I was trying to research more about the Schengen zone for my upcoming trip. I'm a U.S. citizen flying from DC to Paris (CDG) with a connection in Iceland. After arriving in Paris, I have a separate flight through a different airline (I bought my easyJet ticket separately) to fly from Paris to Nice. The time from landing in Paris to departing to Nice is 2 hours and 10 minutes. I'm only bringing on carry-on bag/luggage and have already checked in and downloaded my boarding pass for the flight from Paris to Nice.
    Some people were saying that I'd have to go through customs/security upon arriving in Paris and re-enter security to go to my flight's gate for Nice, but then some others said that since I am connecting through Iceland and it's a country in the Schengen zone, it should be easier/no customs or I could just simply walk through to the neighboring terminal to the gate? I'm not sure what I should expect and was worried that 2 hours and 10 minutes might not be enough time, so I wanted to hear your insight. Thank you!

    • @TravelingwithKristin
      @TravelingwithKristin  2 года назад

      Hi Vinh, Paris is a huge airport so I’m not sure what the protocol will be, especially during Covid. It makes sense that you would be able to stay in the gate area without going back through security if you’re not checking a bag, but it’s also possible that you have to change to a gate in a different part of the airport, in which case there could be other checkpoints. Let us know how it turns out!
