    The mistake they made was that they built it expecting people to live in those apartment buildings instead of them being bought and left empty by rich folks wanting to hide their money here.

      Most apartments in Docklands are occupied these days. It’s still quiet because it’s a residential area not a commercial area. People leave home for work or shop in the morning and only return in late afternoon or early evening. Population in Docklands shrinks to a third in the early afternoon. It’s literally a bedroom town.

    There's a huge lack of constant transport to the District Docklands. I remember going to Hoyts at the District Docklands because I personally prefer the Docklands Hoyts over Melbourne Central Hoyts, the transport is surprisingly limited. We only have trams that go from Flinders Street (70) or Southern Cross (86) to travel to the Docklands which is fine but when ever there are delays it's a huge issue, the busses that go toward the District are a far walk from Southern Cross. The bus stop doesn't even stop in front of the District and it takes around a 10 or so minute walk to arrive due to the amount of traffic lights you have to cross over. It's a shame because the District has a lot of good stuff to do and brilliant cuisine, it's just so inaccessible for some people. Plus, it's way too far to walk or bike ride to the Docklands.

      Genuine question as someone who visited Melbourne and stayed in Dockland for a week: I thought there is a tram line that's free in the CBD and takes you closer to the city centre. Why would it be inconvenient for people to travel to and from Dockland?

    • @Wdeane1957
      @Wdeane1957 Месяц назад +1

      @kingcoong yes, there's 5 trams servicing Docklands. The 75 and 30 go to Central Pier (just north west of Marvel Stadium) and the 35, 70 and 86 to the entrance to The District. All are free within Docklands and the city free tram zone.

    • @fcfhkmelb

    • @blue_rose789
      @blue_rose789 Месяц назад +1

      @@fcfhkmelb I think it's more that Docklands was planned and expected to be something much much bigger, but they ultimately failed to bring people in from outside. As you said, it's not a bad residential area now and it seems like from the video that it's not really "dead", it just never lived up to the hype and expectations that the developers and investors hoped it could achieve. The Melbourne Eye closing down is one such example.

Yes there are trams etc, but nothing that directly focuses on taking you there to make it easier for tourists for example. Maybe this will improve accessibility to the area because it feels disconnected from the city despite it being so close. I guess that for people who live in the suburbs, if they're going for a day trip in the city they're not going to the go to the Docklands, they'll just go the the CBD. The recovery from all the lock downs will take years do to inflation. People just don't go out to eat and shop like they used to. Infact I still work from home since covid. Businesses are slowly bringing employees back into the city to work in the office part time. I always liked the Docklands for the views and the different things to do there. It's a hidden gem of an area. Costco was such a big anchor store for the area. People that live there will suffer when they leave and same with all the Businesses. The view is good for Melbourne - But that isn't saying much as Melbourne is not a pretty place and is generally dirty/needs a good clean. If you think that view was nice - wait until you see Sydney Harbour on a summers night. It will make you see how below average and boring Melbourne is in all aspects.

    Once cosco leaves…… its dead.

    Developers of the wheel didnt want it built in docklands as it was surrounded by no good views.
    However after debating for months with the govt and builders. Govt demanded it to be built at docklands. To lure tourists to docklands.
    If the builders built it near flinders, it would be significantly popular.
    Other thing that kills business what noone talks about is “customer service”. As in lazy workers. Rude workers.

    I want to go to that Ninja Turtles exhibition.
    Should get some sponsorship or endorsements from some of these places as videos like this will gain customers to those shops

      Dont waste your time and money with the Ninja Turtles exhibit.First thing when u walk in its just a big empty room with video screens playing a montage of TMNT images and videos.Then there is a small room with skateboards with TMNT art and a room with pinball machine (which wasnt working) and 3 arcade games which u can play.That was the only good thing about it but not worth the $30 entry fee.Then there is a room where they sell overpriced figurines.Not worth it and disappointing.Was expecting a lot more.Moreover there were only 4 people there when I was there and at the end this lady with her husband and kids said is that it seriously. I said I know right.

    This is what I think, those shops are designed so poorly. Nobody wants to explore this overpriced tourist trap. That's essentially what this is, if you shoved this entire shopping district up the top of Ba Na Hills, Da Nang, it would be perfect, a tourist trap. Get you to stay at one of the nearby hotels and trap you in the worse part of the city.
    Here is the thing, towards the stadium, there is a lot of fun things to see. Nobody can be bothered walking all the way to the wheel. The area around the wheel sucks, the upstairs and the downstairs. They really tried to make the Docklands big, but in the beginning when the area was being developed, there was talk about Grollo tower and that might have been enough to drag enough people there.
    Honestly, the worst part about Docklands is the 100+ Asian buffets. The people who go to these buffets aren't going to lug their loaded stomachs through the shopping district. It was always a bad idea.

    The whole place, the whole “suburb” lacks vibe on the street. Replicate say, Chapel st or Smith St or Brunswick St with small business on the footpath and shade. It looks like Shanghai or Singapore architecturally. Awful. Make it an inner city suburb.

    I made it 2min30s in. I can't handle channels that rely on cuts to string together a sentence.
    Write a script, or, atleast think about what you're going to say.
    If it doesn't come out right, do another take and edit out the sht ones.
    Just imagine if the news had a cut every 3 words. Horrid.
