Easy one of my favorite games right now. It's not even at all my type of game but it's still blowing me away. I love it. I tried it a long ass time ago on gamepass and thought the shoot em up part at the beginning was pretty cool. I stopped right after that part but now with it on Switch I've finished the first playthrough and started the 2nd. Really wish i could play Nier Replicant now. Just to see.

No rush though haha, Switch releases have been pretty stacked so I’m surprised you even had the time for all of these other reviews
To be completely honest I only got into playing tunic because of how the puzzles worked and how the world worked but yeah the manual was a good thing to have the game to
For Nier:Automata endings A-E are the main story endings the rest are just ‘joke’ or ‘what if’ endings you get for doing various things and each ending is a letter of the English alphabet so don’t worry if you’ve seen A-E then you’ve seen everything you need to. Amazing game though and if you like action games I couldn’t recommend it more!
I am loving NieR: Automata - brilliant game, amazing port. Death Road to Canada does look like a great co-op game, and I am going to add The Next Penelope to my wishlist, I loved those top-town racing games back in the day, and this looks like a updated version of that!
For me I have been playing cat quest 1+2. I brought it recently and I just completed cat quest 1 and it was good. The game is so cute and it is a good gsme. Definitely worth picking up if you want to have fun for 15hrs for both of the games
I had the same response when ‘completing’ Nier Automata for the first time. The difference with your experience is that I only found out months later that you’re supposed to beat the game multiple times in order to experience the entire story.😅 It’s such an epic game though. I’ll probably pick up the Switch version when the physical version gets a sale.
@@hellboy1976 Good to hear! I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. 😉 For me personally, this was one of the few games in the past several years that made me audibly say ‘Wow!’ at times.
I'm quite surprised that you didn't talk about one of the most original feature of "Tunic", the manual. You have to find the pages in the overworld and translate them. A lot of secrets are hidden in the manual. 😁
I have been continuing my journey across the wretched lands of MORBID and am utterly enjoying this game. I also turned Prodeus into my new loading game...nothing clears the air like killing a level full of demons to decide what I really want to play.
The instruction manual in Tunic is quite unique and shouldn't be glossed over. Definitely worth checking that out and seeing how the game can be pretty mind blowing as you slowly collect and decode the meaning of the in-game pages. Reminds me of having real instruction manuals as a kid but this has a bit more hidden within it.
Probably the best list so far. Ive played all of these and own multiple copies of them on Switch and iPhone except for that racing game. Death Road To Canada is fun solo and with a friend. Its funny to design a character and a bit like the oregon trail with a modern zombie theme and some silly yet frantic fighting mechanics. Huntdown is such a basic name for an amazing 2D shooter. Even seeing the cyberpunk pixel art of that game on my regular Switch I was so impressed and replaying it on the Switch OLED screen (and my iPhone) it's even better. Such a fun game with a 90s style aesthetic that's almost reminiscent of progressing through a stage of Contra but not AS hard while still being plenty challenging. If you play on normal difficulty and want to collect all the achievements for every stage it will keep you quite busy perfecting your gameplay and fine tuning your controls. The pixel art and music are great and the theme of this cyberpunk x Warriors underworld is a match made in heaven. The Warriors and Cyberpunk is exactly the hybrid I thought of when I first played the game. Tunic looks great to me as well and I didnt play the other console versions so to me it looks and plays perfect. I'm sure I'd see the difference if I played it on Xbox Series X but I waited to play on Switch and thats where I'll continue playing for now. It fits the console nicely. I'm also digging into Nier Automata and havent finished my first playthrough yet but am so impressed by the game and the port. On the other hand I'm also enjoying quite a bad port of XIII. While XIII is pretty janky with frame rates, lagging, and some other performance issues on Switch I still like the cell shaded comic book style art and just straight simple gameplay of early first person shooters like 007. You don't need to know anything about the story but it's there if you want it, otherwise just run through the levels and shoot everything in sight. The stealth sections and some of the mechanics like the hookshot as well are quite enjoyable in XIII. I wonder if Microids will update the game to run better on Switch; I really doubt it considering what little fanfare it was released to and how much negative talk is associated with the game. Even with it's issues I think it's worth checking out but NOT at the full price I paid of $40. It's a game that should realistically be $15-$20 in it's current state if even that. If you are someone who likes the old James Bond games and just wants to play it then go for it but if you are more of a modern shooter player and don't like big frame dips and performance hiccups then hold off on XIII for a sale. There is a good game in there but the development of the game was a nightmare that not even the devs who came to clean up the original mess could fix. I'd love if the 2nd team of devs had started the game to begin with but now we probably will never see another port of XIII again which is quite a shame since this port had the potential to reignite the franchise at least on the gaming side of things.
RE: Tunic - it's worth mentioning that _how_ you play the game can be considered as kind of a puzzle in and of itself. That's personally one of my favourite elements; discovering the in-game 'manual' pages and trying to decipher them for progression and other secrets. I've seen this game get a lot of comparisons to Death's Door (another brilliant game), which I understand (sharing isometric perspective and similar art styles) but I think one of Tunic's main points of different is the problem-solving expected of the player. It is definitely much more of a 'soulslike' when compared to Death's Door, especially when looking at the stamina-based combat, respawn/currency collection mechanic, approach to progression and narrative progression. Just sharing my thoughts as Tunic really took me by surprise... it's become an unexpected all timer for me! ☺
I love your content and watch all of the videos you upload. However, I have to strongly disagree on Guardian Tales. I have been playing it for two weeks now and it’s an absolute blast. There’s a lot of Easter eggs/humour and tons of content. Even though there’s a lot of stuff you need to grind for - you can actually use auto option to avoid the tedious parts (rifts) and just do something else while your party keeps farming stuff for you without your involvement. I would definitely recommend it to people who enjoy MMORPG type of games or those who are hooked on 2D graphics with the ability to customize your team: do you want to use close quarter fighters, mages, ranged characters and etc.
The funny thing, I’ve actually playing Guardian Tales the last two weeks and have really enjoyed it! I suppose that’s because I don’t mind gatchas mechanics (as long as the game provides me with enough currency to buy the gatchas, which this has do far) where as those who are firmly against it probably wouldn’t enjoy it. The story is genuinely interesting to me and it has a lot of meta jokes (like there’s a character in the story that’s literally joking about how games always include a “hero” like Link, and one level even has the hero looking for their “master sword,” but it gets destroyed so your character just gives them a blaster gun instead) so I genuinely don’t think it was intended to be just a straight rip off Zelda but with gatcha. My interpretation, actually, was that they were trying to make a game similar to Genshin but a bit more linear. Just goes to show how different people interpret things differently and enjoy different games!
Hyper is 100% girl version of link, her design in the mobile version is even more obviously a red parody complete with very similar hat. Also two of the other chars are merchants that are clearly female versions of Mario and Luigi, the Mario parody having racoon ears an tail. There is also a mention of prince and turtle dragon in their bios. There are actually tons of parody bits and bobs as you go along, especially in the side quest maps. My favorite is parody tom nook and his sons make an appearance. It's a very funny game with great secrets and level design, and so much to do for free. Despite playing it on mobile the switch version is so good I actaully ended up playing it alot, at least logging in each day to burn some stamina and work on leveling up the various things you can. And since the Switch version is pretty much a relaunch I can tell you it just gets even better, though there will absolutely be points where if you don't spend money you just have to go, well i'm going to have to just repeat resource gathering for at least a few days to level up and make progress, but it's still a great game. I also find it super funny that despite only being in the video for a short time the youtube preview shows nothing but Guardian Tales footage.
I've been considering Pumpkin Jack for the Halloween vibes, but since you mentioned MediEvil I've been curious about that one as well 😅 Tunic looks great too, but I'm a bit intimidated by its difficulty 😅
I feel the same on Tunic, in scared of the stuck in repeat mode. I picked up New Borderlands on pretty order and Battle chasers and I'm enjoying battle chasers honestly. Excited for New Borderlands for the 21st though.
@@WitchDoctor87 I've had Battle Chasers on my wishlist for ages! I heard there's like a steep difficulty curve at some point that requires some grinding, so I've been hesitant to get it 😅
@@Anni_ka I've not ran into that myself, as well the combat hasn't felt repetitive. I found myself using many skills and thinking of how to use them. I say this because in other turn based rpgs, I found myself taping the same button blowing through normal attacks. I'm planning on getting Ruined King after this game because apparently they're made a lot alike.
Tunic is a bit like Zelda BOTW at the start. You die repeatedly, trying to take on enemies holding a stick. But like BOTW it gives you a feel for the game mechanics, how to retreat and sneak around enemies rather than just take on everyone. Once you find a sword and then a shield it becomes a lot easier and more fun. But I think you need that learning period, it only took less than an hour to acquire better weapons so hang in there. Highly recommend it, I bought it only a few days ago and I’m having a great time.
I was more interested in exploring the world of Tunic than getting "gud", but fortunately it has some accessibility settings that let you modify things like turning off the stamina-based system or changing the damage levels you take. If the difficulty is your biggest concern, there are ways to still enjoy the game
I can't tell you how many times I've looked at The Next Penelope and though.... maybe? I don't know why I haven't bit, other games from Plug In Digital I've bought I've really enjoyed.
How well does Tunic truly play on Switch? I am so excited for that game, but I’ve been hesitant to buy it due to what I’ve heard online. Please recommend to me if I should get it or not on switch.
Know it was only mentioned briefly but gotas disagree about Guardian Tales. While I haven’t gotten far from what I have played it’s pretty fun, lots of great humor and moments. While there is a Gacha element I feel it isn’t to pushed too much (again, still early in the game so may change). I’ve gotten thru the game pretty well without it only using the free pulls it offered
I'm currently playing no man's sky. The game has literally blown me away. I can just literally get lost for hours exploring the various planets, and working on building bases/finding ships. Its a nice way to wind down from a chaotic workday.
If you are finding the Tunic bosses as hard as Dark Souls you have possibly not levelled up your character (like I initially failed to do). The first boss was absolutely torturous at level 1.
I got to and beat the big tank spider like boss without leveling up shit. Afte that i figured out how to level up your attacks and all that shit. I was kinda impressed with myself for getting that far without any of the upgrades. It's a tough little game. I set it aside for Nier Automata which I've gotten the first ending and I'm currently going through 9S' playthrough but it will he awhile before i get back to Tunic.
I picked up the hundred year kingdom while it was on sale. It's a interesting chill civilization builder. The thing is that it can take around a hour to complete a playthrough. With 6 different goddesses and a few different maps I can see how it gets repetitive for some people. I can see how some people may not like it for 15$ base but on a sale like the 50 % it's been a few times is a great sale for short pick up and plays
I’ve been sucked into Guardian Tales but not spent any money on it. Starting to get VERY grindy now though. I keep swapping between Nier: Automata and Diofield Chtonicles atm. Slightly different combat styles 😁
I'm currently making my way through Tunic as well. Delightful little title! I had my eyes on it from the game's original reveal. Though I played the demo on Xbox One, I actually held out on buying it until it came to Switch (while hoping it would). I've had The Huntdown on my wishlist for a while, just waiting for the right price. Knowing it has some solid co-op play makes me ignore the art style; kind of tired of Unity pixel art games. Not on this list or even on the Switch, I've been making my way through Horizon: Zero Dawn on the PS4. I know, old ass game. With Forbidden West looking so fantastic, I wanted to play the first game to make sure I go in prepared from a world and lore standpoint.
Quite enjoying Morbid: The Seven Acolytes. Solid, souls-like gore-fest. And also playing through RE4 for the first time. Two great spooky season games🎃
I just (tonight) started playing Pumpkin Jack after picking it up on this recent sale, and I'm enjoying it so far. Love a good 3D platformer. Also just picked up Glyph (after playing through the demo), and am enjoying that as well. A couple solid pick ups from this past weeks sales, so I can't complain about that.
Props for mentioning Enslaved: Odyssey to the West which I consider a hugely underappreciated game. You are correct about the ending, but also it is one of those games of that era (along with e.g. Batman: Arkham Assylum) that still hold up visually today. Also, I still remember when I the first images of Horizon: Zero Dawn appeared and I thought, "Ninja Theory called; they want their Enslaved back!"
I've been playing No Man's Sky since launch (still waiting for the 4.04 patch), and Disney Dreamlight Valley, which received the Scar update today, along with stability and bug fixes. The crashes are less frequent now, but I didn't notice any performance improvement. It's still stuttering a lot.
I am, currently, still playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3!! 155hrs put into it so far and I have no idea how close to the end I am. I have a tendency to over-level myself and do side-quests as I get them. It has been a lot of fun. I am personally waiting for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet next month. My son and I enjoy playing Pokémon together.
In regards to Tunic: if you are having to back track to retry an attempt at a boss, then you haven’t found the shortcut that is in hidden fir you to find. Tunic is rich with secrets that on todays type of game design we just don’t see anymore. The true ending requires so much brilliant thought and in this game, when the world expands it’s because your thought process in itself has expanded. Seriously best, challenge and thought provoking game I’ve played since botw.
I need to say that you guys didnot say the whole idea about Tunic! You forgot to mention the most important elements of the game, the BOOK and the LANGUAGE. I am not sure how much you have played this game but i must say that through the book you can find out all the mechanics as well as all the puzzles and hidden items of the game. You just need to reaaaaally focus on every page of it. Good luck..!!!!
Been on a bit of a point and click athon. Playing Darkside Detective and Deponia on Switch and Monkey Island 2 on Xbox. From your recommendationa I added Penelope Pitstop (which is what they should have called it) to my wishlist.
I apparently already bought next penelope on sale long ago😅 (thought i'd never heard of it) So much fun!! Check it out!! (the backlog is nearing 500 now)
Yeah, for you to see the true ending of Nier, someone had to delete their save permanently. Beautiful. Also that music, my goodness. As for Visual Novels, NOTHING will give you the intense, life changing experience like Muv Luv Alternative. That is such a ride you will never experience again.
Never understood why there never was any buzz surrounding Death Road to Canada. It's such a punishing yet fun game that I would totally see it being popular among streamers and youtuber but it never was unfortunately. Would love to see a sequel.
It kind of looks like Contra and two player don't get me wrong here I'm bored 1980 I still have my original NES and I have Contra and Super C but like I say in two player mode that's what it looks like you got to stop waiting for your guy to come up you got to move together you got to move together or you fail that's what I know on contra
You passed over the entire manual aspect of tunic. That was one of the huge mechanics/gimmicks. Uncovering the mechanics by finding pages of the manual to see what has always been at the disposal was brilliantly done.
11:39 Was pretty decent on mobile in the beginning but the devs got greedy pretty quickly and their choice of no cross-progression (to harvest more from fans) is just another example of said greed.
Tunic looks like a more challenging Deaths Door to me. But it would be a disservice to Deaths Doors if I didn’t stay it’s a pretty challenging game for me.
And another game to my backlog (Death Road) and one to the wishlist (Huntdown) - and the months not even over yet, with 10-15 new bangers straight from your marvellous videos off the eShop sale. Ah well, the joy of enough money, not enough time. Cheers guys! 🤘😁❤
How similar is Tunic to Death's Door? The art style and gameplay look eerily similar. Curious to hear from anyone who has tried both games and can provide some insight on similarities and differences.
It’s not too similar honestly. A different loop. More challenge and more of an exploratory feel. I guess it’s similar in other ways though, both great games! Mark
Enslaved is one I played on the 360. Was it Andy Serkis who did the voice acting and in game visuals of the boss. Was an underated game. Great list guys.
Who plays games for fun? Indeed! I’m still waking my Switch OLED to play the same exact game I’v been playing for the last several months, just because it turns out, I enjoy immersive 3D _arcade-style_ shooters! And the Wolfenstein games, _especially_ the criminally panned Youngblood are exactly that! I realize just how _refined_ the gameplay loops in these Bethesda shooters are! The action in these games just _flows,_ the explosions and the movement looks and _feels_ real and I actually do _(for once)_ feel like a kid in the 90’s, playing on the SNES or a GBA. Just playing a game, over and over, never getting tired of just booting up a game and treating the Switch, like a Game Boy! Who would have thought! Youngblood is on my list of forever style games. It’s up there with RE4 (so long as it has the Gyro controls) and Metroid Zero Mission. Now I have a solid third on that list. I love it, hot-takes be damned. You know the criticisms lobbied at Youngblood, like enemies are _bullet sponges_ and the game is too hard are _exactly_ the same points influencers, middle men and bean counters claimed that they _loved_ in the Doom games. Oh well, Bethesda, Arcane and Machine Games are _smarter_ people than those with hot-takes apparently, and made the best 3D arcade shooter to date in Youngblood. Play it. Play it together or play it in single player, _like me._ Great Stuff, as always!
Nice little natter boys. I’ve been playing glyph and really quite enjoying it. It challenging but not enough to be frustrating with only the keys needing to be collected in one go to finish the level. Really appreciated that
Hey guys, many thanks for the vids, really enjoy these. Currently getting my backside handed to me by Xcom. Again.. Fingers crossed you’ll review Tunic? This vid got me wondering if you’d both be interested in doing a ‘best co op games’ compilation? The fun you’d had playing Death Road to Canada was almost palpable. Many thanks again for your ace content and hard work.
Great series! Pumpkin Jack was a great game hard to beleave one person made it. NieR:Automata looks great looking forward to getting it. My least favorite ending has to be BOTW. The game was so great I'm sure my mouth was hanging open with disappointment and disbelief, with just how boring and easy it was.
I've been practicing my craft in Moonscars. It's a dark metroidvania with Gameplay driven by very weighty Combat. When at my best I was able to pull off some brutal manouvres. Like when you are sending them off into the afterlife before they even realize they arrived. You killed them before they even spawned. I feel like sometimes I'm at my best when I bring a level of Tension to the Game.
Those!e are the beat areant they? The games you can play with your child. You both sig in and work together. Ah man someone the memories ill always remember!
It's cool that you guys talk about NieR Automata and give it some attention, it's my favourite game of all time :) But please don't spoil ending E so easily!!! It really has a such deeper impact and feeling to it when you find it out for yourself

I have been continuing my journey across the wretched lands of MORBID and am utterly enjoying this game. I also turned Prodeus into my new loading game...nothing clears the air like killing a level full of demons to decide what I really want to play.
Huntdown is such a great action game
I'd really like to see a review of Let's Build a Zoo and Fight 'n Rage which is possibly the best scrolling beat em up ever made!
Yeah, you are so right! This is incredible no one ever done that like this before. The manual is fantastic!!
If you two enjoyed huntdown together, you GOTTA play Broforce
Glad you are enjoying it so much mate. It's always good when you find a game that clicks with you. Glen
Nier Automata - YES! DEFINITELY a worthwhile game. Tunic I've had on my radar. Would be nice to see a sale during the holidays.
Absolutely right mate! Glad you're enjoying it. Glen
Death road is a fun game. Reminds me of a Hotline Miami look but no where as good. That’s no jab, HLM is a legendary game.
I loved the endings of Nino Kuni and Rime which I played back to back last year.
Hell of a list - buy them all
The Next Penelope is new to me
It looks really good 😎🤙👍👍
Know it was only mentioned briefly but gotas disagree about Guardian Tales.
The souls formula mixed in with the zelda formula 😳
Yeah there’s definitely something there it just didn’t click for me. Mark
I love it and the grind get easier once you unlock auto-battles 😉
I got glyph on sale for like 2$ and it’s a fine little time waster
No Man's Sky is amazing. So happy I finally got around to playing it 🙌
Yeah for sure! Mark
13:31 I think Ys VIII Lacrimosa Of Dana had the best ending of any game I've played.
Hands down favourite RUclips channel
Huntdown is a lot of fun. My buddy and I ran through it in one evening. Feels very 80ish.
You guys should review Easy Red 2 it was made by a single person and I think the game could benefit from a little critique
I play Moonscars like crazy
Love em, they can be incredibly good! Mark
I apparently already bought next penelope on sale long ago😅
(thought i'd never heard of it)
So much fun!!
Would like to see u giving "Dorfromantik" a go
Never understood why there never was any buzz surrounding Death Road to Canada. It's such a punishing yet fun game that I would totally see it being popular among streamers and youtuber but it never was unfortunately. Would love to see a sequel.
It kind of looks like Contra and two player don't get me wrong here I'm bored 1980 I still have my original NES and I have Contra and Super C but like I say in two player mode that's what it looks like you got to stop waiting for your guy to come up you got to move together you got to move together or you fail that's what I know on contra
when I first saw Tunic (which I haven't played yet) I got the impression it's a lot like Death's Door - am I right with my guess/general game-feel?
You passed over the entire manual aspect of tunic. That was one of the huge mechanics/gimmicks. Uncovering the mechanics by finding pages of the manual to see what has always been at the disposal was brilliantly done.
Huntdown looks super cool
It is! Mark
I currently can't put down Lego Skywalker Saga. I'm a star wars fan so probably bias, but it really is some great, chilled out fun! Treat yo' self
11:39 Was pretty decent on mobile in the beginning but the devs got greedy pretty quickly and their choice of no cross-progression (to harvest more from fans) is just another example of said greed.
I just finished Disco Elysium which was great, and have started Jenny Leclue…2 VERY different mystery games.
Tunic looks like a more challenging Deaths Door to me. But it would be a disservice to Deaths Doors if I didn’t stay it’s a pretty challenging game for me.
just started tunic but on PS5. so far so good. Pumpkin jack, while not hard, was a very nostalgic game and was nice to play.
Never heard of Enslaved?! To be fair about six people bothered checking in out. Awesome game.
I liked Enslaved. I remember playing way back when it released. Don't remember too much about it other than i know i enjoyed it.
I love The Next Penelope.
It reminds me of Rocket Racing from years ago. Remember those PSP Mini games?
Finally played through Fire Emblem Three Houses. Now I’m playing Chaos;Head Noah.
I thought Tunic was for kids, but is just a lovely style, and looks challenging, I definitely will adquire it
Best video game ending: Braid
I’m playing Baldo now that’s it’s out physically. Based on your last review, I thought I’d give it a go.
I haven't played Tunic (yet), but it reminds me of Deaths Door. Is it anything like that?
Tunic is Great … Super Hard … The Secrets are nearly impossible to figure out unless you sit there with notes pencil and paper to figure them out
Hear me out…a video on EVERY interesting game you’ve ever played.
Why not mention Tunic’s core mechanic of finding manual pages to learn how to play it? That’s the thing that would get me to play it.
Guardian tales is a great gacha game. But the problem is loading game took too long. And it doesn’t have cross account. 😢
Might not gonna happen, but I'd love to play Paychonauts 1 & 2 on switch someday ;;
Mark
Being top down games is probably where the similarities end. Death's Door is a great game too though. Much easier but very fun.
I decided giving The Takeover a try, and my gosh, what a gem! Love it!
The final boss had me sweating but it was great even as someone who doesn’t play beat ‘em ups. Maybe I will now!
Enslaved is one I played on the 360. Was it Andy Serkis who did the voice acting and in game visuals of the boss. Was an underated game. Great list guys.
Hi GTA Trilogy have a new update. Are going to make a new video? Been waiting for month 😍
Huntdown is the best
Play it. Play it together or play it in single player, _like me._
Great Stuff, as always!
Thank you for the heart!
We'll definitely be doing a new co-op video as part of our 12 days of SwitchUp this year. Glen
Started playing secrets of monkey island and I'm really enjoying myself!
Playing no man's sky. Took a bit to get going, but once it does, oh my is it compelling
Huntdown is GREAT!
Death Road to Canada rocks! Me and my son have been playing it ever since I picked it up for $5 and it’s so much fun.
Yeah, great game!
Those!e are the beat areant they? The games you can play with your child. You both sig in and work together. Ah man someone the memories ill always remember!
It's cool that you guys talk about NieR Automata and give it some attention, it's my favourite game of all time :)
But please don't spoil ending E so easily!!! It really has a such deeper impact and feeling to it when you find it out for yourself
I didn't mention any details to be fair :)
Wait so... Tunic is different from Trifox? They look sooo similar!
