"Plants you shouldn't pay for" (or "Plants you can often find for free") would be a great video! I find that people often offer spider plants, golden pothos, tradescantia (basic ones), jade plants, and mother of thousands for free in my area!
North Texas: I find so much trandescantia in peoples gardens and often able to get free cuttings! Also in parks or public/governement property and grab a bit. Also seed collecting from annuals and perennials. I've literally picked up yucca seeds (a native) off of the local government buildings before.
With the monsteras I purchased seeds as well as the mini plants. It's crazy how the ones I started with seeds started fenestrating before the ones I've purchased already as mini plants.
When I got my monstera it was at most 7" tall and the biggest leaf was 3". I've had it for 18 months and the leaves are at least a foot long when they come out, and it has inner fenestration. I have an heirloom monstera passed down to me from late family that has the giant 3' leaves and has fruited. The one I got as a baby is 1/3 of the way there and it's freaking thriving
@@debbiefox6846 it's still ripening. a lot says it'll take up to a year to finish. It's a 35+ year old monstera, so I think it's more that it's just happy to get the plant food change compared to where it was before it was passed down to me.
@7:27. SO true.I have a selloum thats about 31 years old ( mom bought it in 1991 ) its been under my care for the past 10 years. Extremely hardy. Like REALLY hardy. During a cross country move we put it in our pod, and the pod got lost for like 3 weeks in the middle of summer. Perfectly fine, didn't show a single sign of stress. Never had a pest problem or disease. Extremely versatile on lighting. So it really can be put almost anywhere ( except in complete darkness ) and live happily. They propagate like a dream. 10/10 recommend everyone get one.
They actually do have set-ups for "Kitchen Culture" or at home tissue culture. You do need to set up a booth or closet though and do special ventilation and media. You do have to be super careful about contamination though. I think I may eventually try it, but I was a science nerd and studied organic chemistry.
I would love a video on which plants do best outside! I have a balcony that gets early afternoon sun and is love to have some full sun plants out there!

You should get a ficus umbellata! By far, the most vocal ficus I’ve ever seen. And they’re literally so cute and a super fast grower. Mine is definitely one of my top 5 favorites in my house.

Yess, more fittonia love! It shocks me how rude people can get when you say anything positive about certain plants. Fittonia and crotons are some of my absolute favourite types of plants and some people take that far too personally. 😅
Crotons are my all time favorite! I have 6 different varieties and a few doubles (even triples) of a few of them! Literally as easy as my pothos 😆 I really don't get why some people actually seem offended when I say crotons are easy for me 🤣
I would never get offended or "bothered" by somebody's love for a specific plant. But I am anti croutons because i kill them. They r gorgeous and fun but I cant keep them. Now I have a fiddle leaf fig and got it as a beginner and it thrives. Alot of ppl cant keep them especially as a beginner, so its all really relative. Anyone being upset or mad at anyone else for their personal opinions on plants, need some therapy 🤣

I work in a tomato breeding lab that does tissue culture and it’s definitely possible to do at home, but there’s a lower success rate because there a higher potential for contamination during the procedure. Still totally doable and fun though!
I found three baby monsteras a year ago for $0.86. They all made it, two are a little larger than the third but all survived and growing. I agree. I am excited to watch the whole growth process and knowing I've had it since they were barely 6 inch sad looking seedlings. They're way way taller now, the bigger two have grown well over a foot and have some fabulous aerial roots going on 👌 Hoping to see some striations soon 😊 And I think fittonias are in my top favorite list. I grabbed one nervously thinking I'd kill it, yet months later it's thriving. I keep it in bright/medium indirect light across the room from afternoon sun, and water when it droops.
Fittonia is so easy to prop as soon as I see it take a turn for the worse I prop the ends. I have ended up much fuller plants afterwards as a bonus. Same with Tradescantia, not worth the trouble. Just prob all the healthy pieces.
My suggestion for this video is to show more photos of the plant while you're talking about it on the side of you, because we could only see it for a glimpse.

Fittonia do incredibly well in terrarium type set ups. They grow like weeds in my frog terrariums! One of my tanks has a little fittonia forest with 3 different varieties growing next to each other. Lovely plant! If you struggle to keep them in the house, try a cloche set up or a small terrarium set up 🌿
I would love to see a video about plants that do well outside. It might be really helpful to talk about both Missouri and Arizona because they have such different climates. I'm in Denver rn so I'd probably have to do a combination of the two.
My seed grown Bipen ( selloum) is out in full sun year round ( zone 8 ) . It's beautiful and happy . 20 years old! Easy and my most loved plant! I have found tradescantia prefer overhead light. They're crawlers. When it start being ratty , I just wind it back over the bald spots.
Try some edibles! Edible flowers, lettuce or herbs like chamomile, mint, lemon balm. If you're looking for smthn bigger you can probably get a small fruit tree of some kind. I have a potted grapefruit and the flowers smell like heaven so I get to enjoy that before fruit even comes.
I love fittonia. In my experience they are very easy. They love water and can withstand low and high humidity. They also do great in closed terraria 👍🏻
Oh man I have killed like two or three fittonias. So sad, because they always look so pretty in the beginning. Might have to try getting one again, since they aren’t so pricy. It’s just hard to find a nice full specimen.

I agree with you about the Splendid and Verrucosum. I bought both of these, as rescues in 2" pots that have since been repotted, from Botanicaz at the end of last November. They're both in my Milsbo cabinet on DIY sphag poles in 87% humidity at 72F with a Mother Life 32" grow light. I feed them both with Dyna Gro Foliage Pro 9-3-6 and CalMag in RO water. (Just showing that they both get the same care.) Measuring from the top of the soil; the Splendid is already 15 1/2" tall, while the Verrucosum is 8" tall. Both are healthy, but the difference in growth rate is huge! The DIY sphag poles made a huge, huge difference in leaf size as well, since they hold more moisture (have to wet them every 3 to 4 days). They didn't do as well on the mini coir poles.
I bought first a baby scindapsus pictus but after a month he grows but the leaves is still small, than i bought a big basket of it and he grows so much better in the same spot with bigger leaves

I've had my spider plant for about 12 years & it's never had babies. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. It looks good, just no babies. My fittonia has 1 stick with 2 leaves on it. lol.
I struggle a lot to keep my baby plants basically alive. I treat them as I treat older ones (I don't know if that's correct) - it's still the same plant after all. From what I experienced the bigger plant the less problem I have with it. So I pass on many expensive plants cause I can't buy them big and a little one I will kill. 🙍
LOVE your channel! If you are in need of more video ideas, one that would be extremely helpful for beginners would be on plants that are referred to as “rare” on Etsy but are actually common. I have had a terrible time ordering plants on Etsy: pest infestations/sick, plants waaaay smaller than pictured, price gouging, plants damaged due to poor packaging, etc. If anyone reads this, I would really appreciate it if you would reply with places online you have had good experiences purchasing plants from 😊
I have a fittonia/ polka-dot plant/ draceana planter at my front door. It's actually one of my easiest to care for. If it gets too leggy I cut it back.and grows back beautifully . One of my favorites.
I’ve had my baby Monstera Deliciosa for two years now and I haven’t seen any growth since last year. At one point I thought it maybe had root rot so I unpotted it and it turned out to be root bound! I moved it to a bigger pot, I think it was the end of August at that point, and it’s been hanging out all winter, not doing anything. I’ll try to find a plank for it, but it’s so strange that it isn’t even putting out any new leaves. Any idea of anything else I should do? Thank you for sharing! 💜
@@yukiaditya7352 I actually moved it a foot back from the window because it was getting direct light, which was too strong. It’s been in the new location for about a year and a half. The leaves are beautiful and green - just no new growth. 🤷♀️
@@amandak4695 I use Liquid Dirt and Super Thrive. I do have worm castings but I don’t remember if I had them when I repotted it. I can certainly add them to the soil.

Raining almost 7-8 months a year. Temperature here around 25-32 celsius, humidity around 75-95%. They can withstand lots of sunlight.
I got a baby melano and put it on a plank in January and it immediately sized up substantially! The leaves are still getting bigger and I don't have to worry about keeping anything wet :)
Yes, the wandering Jew in all colors are great, but best outside in the light and humidity!! And watered about every other day!! I have a few pots that I am trying to get outside soon.
Tradescantia is a beautiful plant. The common name you are using is rightly considered offensive. Can we please progress beyond racist names for people plants places
Many people now refer to this plant as "wandering dude" so as to avoid being racist & offensive. I think wandering dude is such a cute, fun name and more people should use it. Or just use the genus name, tradescantia 😊🌿
Hi there, just a little note here that might be very obvious: please do not put your plants outside during summer if you live in a colder climate. I'm Dutch and our summer nights can get below 10 degrees Celcius (50 fahrenheit). Most tropical plants do not like that. I have seen people grow snake plants and spider plants outside though. If you're Dutch, let me know which plants you grow outside during summer!
Grew my fittonia from a 4 in to a 6 in to an 8 in pot then the entire plant got taken out by powdery mildew. Not worth the pain of trying to fix it. Definitely going to pick up another one!

Tbh i think you should buy it small it's the most beautiful cheap plant. You can get one that are GIANT for less then 30.

succulents do great in the full sun or if you have a lowe’s by you the plants are categorized by amount of sunlight.

I’ve had my baby Monstera Deliciosa for two years now and I haven’t seen any growth since last year. At one point I thought it maybe had root rot so I unpotted it and it turned out to be root bound! I moved it to a bigger pot, I think it was the end of August at that point, and it’s been hanging out all winter, not doing anything. I’ll try to find a plank for it, but it’s so strange that it isn’t even putting out any new leaves. Any idea of anything else I should do?

@@yukiaditya7352 I actually moved it a foot back from the window because it was getting direct light, which was too strong. It’s been in the new location for about a year and a half. The leaves are beautiful and green - just no new growth. 🤷♀️
@@amandak4695 I use Liquid Dirt and Super Thrive. I do have worm castings but I don’t remember if I had them when I repotted it. I can certainly add them to the soil.
@@StitchesbySharonH living in Indonesia here, my green deliciosa and Thai Constellation both living outdoor in pots with noon direct sunlight, they grow new leaves nonstop. Raining almost 7-8 months a year. Temperature here around 25-32 celsius, humidity around 75-95%. They can withstand lots of sunlight.

I got a baby melano and put it on a plank in January and it immediately sized up substantially! The leaves are still getting bigger and I don't have to worry about keeping anything wet :)

Yes, the wandering Jew in all colors are great, but best outside in the light and humidity!! And watered about every other day!! I have a few pots that I am trying to get outside soon.
Tradescantia is a beautiful plant. The common name you are using is rightly considered offensive. Can we please progress beyond racist names for people plants places
Many people now refer to this plant as "wandering dude" so as to avoid being racist & offensive. I think wandering dude is such a cute, fun name and more people should use it. Or just use the genus name, tradescantia 😊🌿
Hi there, just a little note here that might be very obvious: please do not put your plants outside during summer if you live in a colder climate. I'm Dutch and our summer nights can get below 10 degrees Celcius (50 fahrenheit). Most tropical plants do not like that.
I have seen people grow snake plants and spider plants outside though. If you're Dutch, let me know which plants you grow outside during summer!
Grew my fittonia from a 4 in to a 6 in to an 8 in pot then the entire plant got taken out by powdery mildew. Not worth the pain of trying to fix it. Definitely going to pick up another one!
