- This rarely seen but brilliant PBS documentary candidly shows the reality of the darker side of professional boxing. Made in 1992, it closely follows the career of a young Shannon Briggs and features fascinating and honest interviews with Evander Holyfield, Larry Holmes, Teddy Atlas, the late Dan Duva, Kathy Duva, Lou Duva, Bobby Czyz, Bob Arum, Mike Marley with an appearance from the Greatest himself, Muhammad Ali.
For any serious fan of boxing, this is seriously not to be missed! Ripped from an old VHS copy, apologies for the slightly ropey quality in places.
Asking Shannon Briggs if he knows who Sid Vicious has is the equivalency of asking Gerry Cooney if he knows who Heavy D & The Boys Are

An honest boxing bio...very rare.
The boxers used to come around to the Olympic training center and they were all sharp as hell. Maybe not book-smart or verbal whizzes but very smart. And they all played chess, when they weren't eating, running, or training. Lots of chess. I wanted to play chess with them but I wasn't good enough. One of my fondest memories of that place.

shannon briggs is just one of 1000s of boxers who got took to the cleaners by promoters managers etc, as of today 2018,some 25 years after this docu first aired,hes still lookin for that one big fight/payday

On the Aug 8 edition of espn friday fight nights, Atlas was being all morally proper about how the Chinese heavyweight fought a bum and he had no biz being there. Funny how things were the same even back then, and Atlas said that was the worst matchup he had ever seen forgetting about his own man Briggs back then.
Don't get me wrong Briggs is my boy let's go champ. I was just amazed on how he saw his future and how it turned out.

You should watch more boxing...and listen to George call fights. I love him, but George being the hardest puncher in boxing history is what made him great (and why he could be outboxed by guys like Jimmy Young and Tommy Morrison). Larry's skill is what made him a legend.
