But why is it terrible, its because of these small little things he's describing that you are doing, many small adjustments amount to a bigger change as you master it
A good tip to fill low mid that i use is: 1.duplicate a synth or a pad 2. Add half time and play with the ‘release’ and ‘speed’ setting to give it a fitting rhythm 3. Eq everything but from 250hz -550hz or so 4. Adjust volume to make it sit 5. Do some stereo imaging to give it more depth
The problem with the first one is that it doesn't actually have a musical idea. You didn't fix it by adding sustained notes, you added an actual bassline and came up with a core melodic idea.
It all comes down to what you want your music to sound like. And if you DESIRE to know, study the fundamentals of music itself and going up to the advance ones, obtain, observe, analyze, interviews, creative process, techniques, concepts, ideas, theories, theories, psychology, business. And then go back and break the rules and see what works best for you because you got the broad knowledge, that's how it should really be done honestly 😂😂 Theres no shortcuts, you would just be doing the same thing anyways but with more confusion ahead of your learning process. I've experienced this myself from a lot of things that needs learning. Find the deep cuts and what gives thing the meaning behind it.
I am familiar with most of what you said but what does color mean in this scenario? The only thing I'd describe as color is light distortion with mild studio reverb
Dude, I really like that you've been using a wide variety of plugins like Kontakt libraries, Guitar Rig, etc....especially applying GR to samples and non-guitar instruments. I've been doing that for awhile and always have loved the results. Nice to see a pro doing it too!

whenever i see “music professionals” give tips, most of the time they haven’t really done anything with their music career and just post yt vids which makes me skeptical to listen to their advice. you letting me know that you’re a qualified artist who’s worked with many people and produced quality stuff makes me feel a lot better 👍👍
there is good reason to be skeptical, people who are super busy with a music career, running a studio etc will not have time to dedicate to making professional quality YT videos weekly unless they have a team with them. There just isn't enough time unless you want to work 16 hours a day 7 days a week. That said, there are plenty of people who have professional level expertise who do not do music full time for various reasons, mostly that its way easier to get a high paying steady job in other fields and still make money on the side with music. Some peoples "side hustle" makes more $$$ than other peoples "full time professional career" in music ;)
When you said some of my best friends are low energy I laughed out loud. Plus the beat fix for Stick Guy was dope. I feel like his version could still be used as the intro to segue into yours
Deadass, just with the thumbnail alone you can tell that the channel rack is going thru hell. 💀 not going to watch the video cause I’m lazy but for starters, the thumbnail is spot on. I stopped using the channel rack like that due to how much more flexible you can be if you split different sounds, samples, etc into different channels n stuff. They are pretty good for looping samples and tho if u mess with the time knob and cut it em through those windows. But that’s just my process or what was due to my laptop shitting the bed :P definitely helped me organize with mixing a lot better that shit used to be all over the place
mine are never missing something. they're always too cluttered. I don't ever use loops, I do everything on midi, and I have this problem where I'll work so hard on a melody or chord progression, and then I don't want to get rid of it because it sounds good, but it's a little much. I'll go back a month or so later and regret keeping something in. sometimes, literally just decreasing the volume of a track will solve my issue, and sometimes removing it entirely is the best option. I think another main issue of mine is I hyperfocus on everything but the drums, so when it's all said and done, the drums are buried underneath all the music and they don't pop, and I'm _ehem_ -really bad at mixing drums- so I give up all the time
My biggest problem is that my 808s become boring/ repetitive. If I add variation, then it sounds like it's too much but if I remove some, then it becomes boring.
You changed the genre of that first beat completely😂. I still love the results tho. And, your advice would still apply even if you kept it in the same genre
great description of the limitations of stock plugins. you need one or two "signature" sounds (usually one for a beat with vocals), then most other stuff can be fairly standard. you did a good job of juxtaposing "genre limitations" vs "stock plugins suck 100%". a lot of folks tend towards black and white thinking, and you did a fantastic job of navigating that while getting the point across. thanks!
