- This is a video review, mainly from my thoughts of the Canon Eos M10. I personally think that this is an overlooked camera because for the price point, this camera does deliver really good results in both photography and filmmaking.

Thank you so much so much for the compliment, it really means a lot to me and I will do my best to keep producing better content!:-)
Totally agree.
I bought this a year ago and literally just unboxed it. Thank you for putting together a considered tutorial and review - there's soo little out there about the EOS M10 that is interesting and in depth.
Hi! yeah, there are indeed so little about eos m10 out there and most of them are not really detailed and/or missing out quite a bit on what the camera is capable of doing. I am glad that you liked it and thank you so much for watching! If you have any questions, feel free to ask as well. :-) Otherwise, have fun shooting! :-)
Why did you just now unbox it??
Thanks for such an informative review David! Nice to see someone reviewing its ability than price. I've just purchased one second hand one on the cheap. Keep up the good work :)
Congratulations on the new camera! Thanks for watching and for the kind words! Wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting. ☺️☺️
I love Canon (I also own the M10) and I love Rotterdam where I was born 68 years ago. Still live here. Thanks for nice vlog!
This is not the review I wanted but definitely what I needed.
Thanks so much for the compliment and watching, if you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will do my best to try and answer:-) I wish you a great time and have fun shooting:-)
Just bought a used M10 with kit lens plus a 22mm. Great info provided along with inspiration for using on my travels to SE Asia - Thank you.
Congratulations on getting the camera! It is still a great camera that still deliver great results and I am sure you'll capture many wonderful memories and moments with it. :-) The 22mm is nice and was definitely my favourite lens to use when I was using the M system. I thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
What the heck. I have that camera but I don't even realize how to use it well as you do. Your timelapse wuz so amazing! All I can do with that camera just having some selfie and short video.
Finally a review that gives some credit to canons brilliant touch screen interface on this camera. I am totally happy with one control dial and the touch screen and actually find it less confusing than having mutiple dials and buttons and having to remember what each one does.
Thank you.:-) I agree that it is a lot easier but in the same time it depends on which type of cameras you are comparing it with. If it's compared to something like the Sony mirrorless line of cameras, I think that this camera is really a lot easier and faster to navigate. However, when looking at something like a 1Dx line, I think that that camera is also another easy to use camera with a lot of dedicated buttons at your fingertips as well as more durable screen and buttons for extreme conditions:-)
But yes, over the touch screen and the user interface of this camera is a really really brilliantly implemented feature into the camera!:-) Thanks so much for watching and have fun shooting!:-)
Great video! I just bought this camera and love it. It really feels like a tinier basic DSLR 😌
Congratulations on your new camera! I am glad that you love it and I wish you a great time with it!:-) Yes, this camera in many ways does feel like a small but capable DSLR when use properly!:-) I just feel that so many people have underestimated the capability and the quality of this camera but I really feel that if you know what you are doing and what kind of results you are after, then this camera is really a capable camera!:-)
got mine yesterday! dont know much about cameras so i was investigating and came across your channel, u got a new subscriber :D!, great video!
Congratulations on the new camera! It is an amazing camera for the price:-). Thank you so much for subscribing and for the compliment, it really helps me to try to improve and produce better contents!:-)
Hi, can you share the best camera settings for EOS M10 for beginners? We would highly appreciate it. Thanks in advance
Hi! sorry for the late reply, best settings in what way though? (Because there is no "best settings" for everything...) But if it helps, I made a vlog with this camera and also showing in that vlog what settings I used and you can check it out on the channel as well:-)
David Cuhls Hi David, I appreciate your reply. I'm just starting out on shooting videos, I have tried canon ixus so far and im planning to upgrade into this eos m10 (supposedly its g7x mark ii but im short on budget right now). I'll be using this to shoot videos for local small businesses here in the Philippines and I just want to get clear and crisp look like you got on this video
Hi, I see... I would suggest looking at other cameras like the eos m3, because the price has dropped significantly and you will have way sharper video and better video quality overall than the m10. I am not sure in the Philippines, but the prices here in Northern Europe is almost identical for both models... Otherwise, the eos 1300d will also take better videos than the m10 and in some cases it is cheaper. I am aware that it is a DSLR and maybe a bit too heavy if you are only looking at compact cameras and mirrorless cameras. However, for both video and stills, the 1300d is really good for the price. Or you can also look for a good second hand version of the eos m3 as well, because that camera is built very solidly, getting a nice second eos m3 might be even better than the eos m10 if your main focus is in video and looking for a long term investment than the eos m10. (but that is just my opinion...)
Thanks David. Though I would just like to confirm if 600D is better than what you suggested 1300D? I have been browsing fb marketplace near my area and most of the available second hand cameras in my area is 600D
600D is actually better than the 1300d and the eos m10. However, it does not have features like wifi and NFC, if you don't mind. Otherwise, 600d will be a pretty good one for both stills and videos. The articulating screen is also nice and the ability to plug in a microphone as well as more durable construction might is just a great deal overall:-)
That's the camera I've been using which I bought this year for my vlog and photography and I love it! but still I am i am on may way getting to know my cam.. hehe :)
Just got one and now im wishing i picked up the M50
I love this review. and OMG almost an hour long! I bet you only did this "Ode to Canon M10 Video" because you dropped it and it surprised you that it stayed intact and working..
Haha, thank you for the compliment!:-) Really helps me to wanting to improve my future content;-) To be honest, the main reason that made this review is that I was really amazed by the image quality for the price... The capability of the camera is also really high for the price. Sure it does not do 4k video but 4k video is not everything.... I also find that the reviews at the time pretty much underrated the camera... So I just wanted to show what the camera can really do... haha
Thanks for such a detailed and great review! I’ve been researching this camera for a while but I’m still debating on purchasing it. I’m looking for a high quality mirrorless camera for vlogging my travel videos. Do you think this would be a great camera for that or to consider something else? Since some people are saying this isn’t a good camera for video.
Hi, first off, thank you for watching. :-) If you are looking for a good mirrorless camera that takes good stills as well as videos, maybe try looking at the eos m3 because the price has dropped since the eos m6 is out and it can take sharper videos (with better focusing system as well in both videos and photos) and it also has a mic port. It is a little bit more expensive but better investment on the long run. :-) It is still very small and light, so easy to take it to anywhere. The files are also more robust, so you can edit the files a bit heavier than the eos m10's files. I hope that helps, and if you have more questions, feel free to ask as well, otherwise have a nice time:-)
Thank you for your thoughtful review of the m10.
I was wondering if the m10 allowed for in-camera processing of jpeg files after taking the photo?
Hi, I don't think that it allows processing after taking the photos, I think it only allows processing to be applied before taking photos...
@David Cuhls
did you use the kit lens only for taking all of those great photos and videos?
Hi, yeah, I only I used the two kit lenses (15-45mm and the 22mm) :-)
David Cuhls wow thank you 😃
Hi David, did you do post-processing with the photos and videos you took with M10? :)
HI, some of the photos were edited though all I did was just recovered the shadows and highlights as well as made the blacks for black and the whites for white. Then I saturated the blue, orange and red tones.:-)
Hola bien video tengo una M10 , Que tripode se utiliza.
Gracias un saludo
New Subsciber here from Cebu Philippines. Great video. 🙂
Thank you so much for watching as well as for the support, really appreciated it! I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Thank You so so much! It is a very useful video review! Ive enjoyed it so much! Thank You!!!!
Thank you so much for the compliment! Really appreciated it and really helps me to wanting to improve my future contents!:-) Have fun shooting!:-)
Hi, this video was great and I'm confuse on buying fujifilm xa3 or this camera. What do you think?
Hi, I think that the M10 might have a bit better file if you would like to play around with it and it is also easier/faster to use. But the xa2 in my opinion has nicer colour for portraits and of course, the look of the camera is better. But for a longterm investment, I might go with the m10 over the xa2. Furthermore, the system of the m10 is lighter and smaller, making it more easy to bring the camera system to places and take pictures:-)
I bought this camera for $197.40 with free delivery for my little girl who turns 11 at the end of this month. She just wants to take photos as a hobby. Would you recommend another camera? (I will return this one for a new one)
Hi, first, congratulations in advance for your little girl. :-) I think the eos m10 is a good option then for the price point and what you can do. The only other camera I would at is the sony a5000. However, the user interface on that camera is not as friendly nor as fast as the eos m10. I think that the eos m10 has a nice colour science already out of the box and with the touch screen and the small light size of the camera, your daughter will definitely enjoy using the camera more. The only downside about this camera is that it does not focus as quickly, especially in low light situations. But it is something that one can get used to. :-)
Amazing!
My plan is to buy 85mm lens to my canon m10. Is it worth to make cinematic videos?. Big thanks! 😄
That depends on what you are shooting really. you can make anything look cinematic with any lens as long as you know what you are shooting mainly and how you are shooting. But putting an 85mm in front of it will be an equivalent of 136mm focal range, that means the lens won't be as versatile anymore.... But if you want to do close up shots and B-rolls, maybe look at the 50mm for this camera as it will be an equivalent of an 85mm and it would still be more versatile...
For vlogging and instagram pictures, is M10 better than 600d?
Hi, I would personally go with the canon eos 600d for both. The video is still a little bit sharper and the RAW files are better to edit. However, if you like to have the portability, essentially the same colour science and lighter camera setup, then the eos m10 is better. For non-edited photos, they both will look the same and will definitely not show any difference on instagram. Lastly, the eos m10 being much smaller and lighter means that you might take more pictures and videos with it more as you will most likely be taking this camera to more places and more often then the 600d and at the end of the day. :-)
good job , but its the longest review in the word hahah im just kidiing
Haha,, I am sorry for such a long video... I did try making a script but then I would sound like a robot trying to follow the script, so at the end I just dropped the script and follow what comes into my head...
Nice video.. How did you make that timelapse video? I know there is no timelapse mode in canon eos m10.
It does not, but it has wi-fi... There are some applications on Android and iOS to wirelessly connect the mobile devices with the M10... I personally use Cascable to connect and control the camera and this app also allows you to do time-lapse with the M10. Furthermore, it also allows you to take full control of everything during time-lapse as well. However, this app is only for iOS, i do not know the name of app for the android version.....
i just finished this video like literally spending 40.50 mins to watch it 😂. and i fall in love with your channel like seriously! actually recently i just got my canon m10 and i really found the focusing damn slow and kind of frustrating me but after finished watching this video i found something great on this cam again thanks tho🙏🏼 could you pls teach or give more tips on m10?? i would really love to learn 🙏🏼
Ohh wow! Thanks so much for the compliment! I am glad that my video made you like your camera again.:-) And yes, I will definitely do more videos on this camera in the future!:-)
what lens did you pointed out at 28:51? the one that improved focus speed, thanks
The kit lens, Canon ef-m 15-45mm :-) Thanks for watching and have fun shooting!:-)
David do you use your existing lenses on the M10 using an adapter? Any third party adapters you would recommend? Canon original is very expensive.
I actually don't use any third party adapters... As of the third party, I cannot really recommend any because I have not tested out any adapters yet and I am sure that different parts of the world will have different reliable brands that produces reliable adapters that other parts of the world might not have.... So in this specific case I really cannot recommend any, I am really really sorry....
No worries and no need to apologize! I've got my head in a twist because I like a lot of things about this camera but EF-M lenses are more expensive than EF/EF-S lenses and I don't want to spend a lot for the adapter either. Entry level DSLRs definitely have an advantage in this respect. Canon should reduce the prices of the EF-M lenses..maybe then M series will become more popular.
That is very true, but looking on the other hand, the M class are very good glass despite limited features and options but optically they are very nice for their price. Furthermore, canon wants to keep their tradition DSLR business going meaning that the demand and production is lower for the M class. With lesser production, it's economically logical that the prices maybe even higher than the normal bigger ef-s lenses. That being said, following the demand and the currency rates of different parts of the world, this case could be the other way around...
Hi David, what do you think about that camera macros? Which objective you choose to do a macro with that camera? Cheers from Argentina!
Hi Francisco, as of macro lens, I would recommend the Canon ef-m 28mm f/3.5 macro lens. I personally don't own that lens but I've seen so many results out of the camera with it and I have to say that the lens can really deliver a great quality. With the feature of having a light at the end of the lens means that the subject will be better lit when you do close up and you can get really creative with it. That being said, you can also try to adapt the Canon Ef-s60mm on it but the disadvantage is that it is bigger....
David Cuhls thank you so much for response! i apreciate that a lot!
no worries, I am glad that I could help if not a lot then little:-) If you have further questions, feel free to ask as well. Otherwise, I do wish you a great time and have fun shooting!:-)
Hi David, how did you make the timelapse in the beginning of the video? I bought the M10 after watching your first video and love it. However all the methods of making timelapses on this camera I have seen involve holding down the shutter button continuously.
I used the app (for iOS) called 'Cascable'. So you can wirelessly connect the camera to this app and then the app is able to control your time-lapse settings (such as how many shots you want to take, your intervals, etc.) and it will also allow you to control your ISO, shutter speed, as well as aperture. Further more, if you set your camera on manual focus and turn on your focus peaking, your focus peaking will also be shown on this app when in live-view. :-) I hope that helped and if you have more questions feel free to ask. Otherwise, I wish you a nice time and have fun shooting!:-)
I know this is a year later but never got round to saying thanks :) really appreciate it. I have just upgraded to the M100. It now has timelapse built in. Keep up the good work on the videos.
Nice video..there aren't many reviews of this camera so thanks for making one. Can you please answer a question: I'm going to buy a new camera (my first interchangeable lens camera - I'm upgrading from a superzoom P&S) and I have a limited budget. I know how to use basic manual controls so I won't be using auto mode. I want to take travel photos and selfies so I like the M10. Is it a good idea to choose this over entry-level DSLRs like Canon 1300D or 100D or Nikon 3300?
Hi, thank you for the compliment, much appreciated it. I personally think that the Eos M10 is a great starting point in this case, because the camera has got really nice set of features for it's price. The image quality is really nice and the RAW files can be adjusted just like if you were to operate the higher entry level DSLRs. The smaller form factor means that you will most likely going to take the camera out more often as it's much more compact and lighter than the DSLRs. Furthermore, you will enjoy carrying it around. The articulating touch screen does make everything a lot easier and faster to navigate. However, if you are looking to shoot video, the 100D, 1300D and Nikon D3300 will shoot a little bit sharper video quality. This is the only weakness from this camera. If video does not matter as much, the Canon Eos M10 is a great choice to look at when stepping up from the normal point and shoot camera. That being said, since the Canon Eos M6 has launched, the Eos M3 price has also dropped quite dramatically, so depending one where you live, it might be worth it to just wait a little and get the M3 as that camera, I think is the best budget choice out of all the budget choices in the same price range and for the size of it as well. I hope this helps and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask as well. Otherwise, I wish you a great time and have fun shooting!:-)
Thanks for taking time to post a looong and useful reply! Very nice of you mate :) I too thought along the same lines about portability and creative legroom with this camera. The M3 is nice but it's more expensive in Russia where I'm studying now, and because I'm going to live here one more year, I prefer to buy with the official Russian warranty so my choices are limited local camera shops. I'll definitely keep the M10 in mind when I do eventually go camera shopping. It's strange how price differences between newer and older models are higher over here (and neighbouring European countries) than in the US. Anyway, thanks again! Peace.
The reason that there are price differences between different products is also to do with the different product tax law of different parts/countries of the world and also the currency between the country that the product comes from and goes to... Furthermore, the demand of the product in different parts of the world also matters... there are many more factors that are involve than this but it's probably too much for just a RUclips reply, haha... But I wish you all the very best in picking up the right camera, but all in all, it's about how you are going to use the camera, don't let the camera limit your creativity bro, have fun shooting:-)
Thanks mate! Keep up the good work on youtube! :) And your English is pretty good so no problem there.
It would be great if you can tell me one more thing: how is the usability of the screen of the M10 in bright sunlight? The lack of a viewfinder bothers me, and I've never been able to see the LCD clearly in harsh sunlight in any camera I've owned.
Subscribed.
Quality review, keep up the good work!
Thank you so much!:-)
this is a such an "ePIC" review! LOL :P keep it up! :)
Thank you so much for the kind words and also for watching, really means a lot! :-) I will do my best to keep improving my future content. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
@@DavidCuhls when you're taking a photo of your subject with the Canon EOS M10 do you need to always rely on the touch screen? can i just shoot directly?
Hoi David, I just invested in this camera for my channel. Can I ask you how to get 4k footage and to timelapse. And I want to add I loved your timelapse in the beginning of the video. Was dat in Delft?
Hello, congratulations on your new camera, I hope you like it and will have fun with the camera!:-) The 4K footage was taken by the M10 using an iOS app on the iPhone called "Cascable". This app will allow you to take pictures at the resolution you set on your camera and allows you to add your own settings such as; how pictures you want, exposure, shutter and ISO controls.:-) Thank you so much for watching and for the compliment on the video!:-) The time-lapse was taken in Rotterdam and some of the pictures were taken in Rotterdam and Maastricht!:-) I wish you a great time and have fun shooting!:-) (by the way, I am from Germany:-) )
no matter what camera you use , is just the way how you use - creativity - thats what i thought after seeing first 1 min of your Video ...daaamn those timelapses are dope ! I assume that they were done with stills ?
Yeah, time-lapse is essentially still images put together into a motion picture with different intervals:-)
This was so interesting! You are really good!
Thank you for the compliment!:-) It really helps me to wanting to improve my future contents:-)
Hi David. which one do you prefer? Canon M10 or Sony a5000? I really want to buy a mirrorless camera now and my budget is very limited. I'm still confused to choose between those 2. Sony a5000 is much cheaper and the specs are pretty similar with the canon EOS m10. aaaaa
I was also confused between the two at first... But at the end I went for Canon because of the easier operations as well as faster access to settings that I want. I prefer the Canon colour more than Sony as well as that touch screen is also really good to operate with. The Canon eos m10 also looks more friendly when shooting people. The a5000 will have faster focusing system and a little bit sharper video quality though the look of the video (colour-wise) is better on Canon (in my opinion). But all in all, that's just from my side that I would personally pick the m10. I hope it helped somewhat, if you have more questions, feel free to ask as well.:-) Otherwise, have a nice time and have fun shooting!:-)
OMG thank you very much for the explanation, its very helpful. I have finally decided to buy the Canon EOS M10, and now waiting for it to be delivered to my dorm. Have a nice day, David!
Congratulations on your new camera! I wish you a great time and have fun shooting!:-) If you have any questions, feel free to ask:-)
Thanks for the long video. Maybe I missed it, but can you manually focus? I'm trying to decide on buying a camera like this as a travel camera. So interchangeable lenses, big sensor and above all ease of use and portability. Now ideally I'd like GPS and panorama mode or something which this doesn't have. What are your thoughts as this for a travel camera? The price is hard to beat I think.
Hi. May I know how did u do time lapse with M10? Is there an option for time lapse on the camera? Thank you! 😊
Hi, I used an app called Cascable. This app allows you to connect the camera wirelessly to the iPhone and with the phone, you can control your shutter speed, focus, iso, aperture to intervals and how many shots you should like to take. :-) However, this app is only available on iPhone and depending on when you download the app, you might have to pay like 8 dollars to enable the time lapse feature on the app.... But this app is really good and I highly recommend it though:-)
David (or others), Would I notice a big difference from the Sony A6000 to the Canon M10? 50% price increase in my area. Leaning towards the A6000 to avoid upgrading later. But you impressed me with this vid, made me reconsider the M10 along with the savings. Plan on using it for landscape, action jet-ski water sports......short videos.
Nice website....great urban photos.
Hi! In terms of the performance of what the camera can do and in terms how much you can edit in post, there are quite a few big differences between the two camera. Though my purpose of this review is to show what the eos m10 can do and how nice the images it can deliver if the user knows how to use it properly, the a6000 will deliver more robust files if you want to edit in post and the video quality is also sharper. There are also more features to use from the a6000 that the m10 does not have simply because the m10 is an entry level mirrorless camera and not in the higher class like the a6000. If you are taking a lot of sports pictures and videos, definitely go for the a6000. But if you do more portrait work and landscapes, I prefer the colour from the eos m10 more. But overall for what you want to do, I think the a6000 will tick the boxes more for you and will last longer (in terms of investment) for you. :-) (however, the eos m6 is also another good offer from Canon as the videos looks nicer than the a6000 and the files are just as robust and you still getting nicer colours from the images) I hope that helps some what, thank you so much for watching and for the compliment! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer them. :-) Otherwise, have fun shooting!:-)
Thanks alot for your time David...I went all in and ordered the A6000. But your videos really looked great with the m10 made me give it a second look.
i am wondering between rebel t6 and m10, almost same price right now. Do you think rebel t6 is more professional? Which one should i buy?
The Canon t6 (1300d) will give you more controls as well as better autofocusing system. Furthermore, it will allow you to mount more lenses without the adapters. The photo files from the t6 (1300D) are also better for editing if you like to edit your images later. However, the m10 is also a very capable camera. It is a lot more portable and the articulating screen will allow you to take pictures from different perspectives. If you want vibrant images and lively images out of the camera without having to edit, then the m10 is also good for you. So I guess now you have to choose which factor is more important. If you like portability, easy to use with great images out of the camera, then the m10 is better. Also with much smaller and light body, this could mean that you might take the camera out more often to take pictures. However, if more controls is what you are looking for (ohh, the video is also slightly sharper on the t6 is a bit sharper as well), faster autofocusing camera, better photo files for editing later and good lowlight autofocusing system then the t6 might be better for you. I hope that helps and if you have more questions, feel free to ask as well:-) Otherwise, thank you so much for watching, all the best and have fun shooting!:-)
Hi, compare to Sony alpha 5100,which one is better? Thanks
Like yours video
Hi! first of, thank you so much for the compliment and for watching, really means a lot! I think the a5100 would be better if you would like to do a lot of post processing with the images as well as want to focus on video because the video quality from the a5100 is sharper than the m10. The a5100 also has a faster auto focusing system in photo mode. That being said, the colour tone from the eos m10 is better, so if you shoot a lot of food, landscapes and portraits, I think the colour looks better from the eos m10. Furthermore, the eos m10 is faster and easier to operate as well... I hope that helps somewhat, if you have more questions, feel free to ask, otherwise, I wish you a great time and have fun shooting!:-)
Thanks for yours answer. If I look for long term investment which one is better eos m3 or Sony a 5100? Hope you will give me advice, he he he
For long term investment, I would go with the m3 because you have more manual features with that camera. Furthermore, if you would like to add accessories /extensions such as a microphone during video or an external flash for photography and more, the eos m3 will offer that option for you. The eos m3 also has a better colour tone for taking landscapes, portraits and food, in my opinion. That being said, the a5100 will have a slightly fast autofocusing system during photo mode and better files if you would like to edit a lot later... That being said, depending on where you are living, the eos m6 can cost almost the same as the eos m3, and eos m6 is so much better than both of the cameras for long term investment with better features as well as better image/video quality and functions. :-)
Thanks for yours helpful advise. I plan to buy it at kuala lumpur next month when I go there.,he he
Thanks a lot 😊😊
Ohh okay, that's nice:-) Well, congratulations in advance then on the new camera and your decision on the camera. :-) If you have any question(s) in the future, feel free to always ask at any time. Otherwise, have fun shooting and traveling:-)
I just got this camera but i still don't know how to have a clear video like your video :( your video so clear. which lens you got? What did you set on your camare, PAL or NTSC? thank you :)
Hi, I was using the kit lenses that came with the camera (Canon Ef-m 15-45mm and the Canon Ef-m 22mm) I set my video to PAL (because I live in Europe) and the video quality at 1080p 25p.
That being said, if you are referring to the sharpness in the time-lapse, that's a different story thought because time-lapse are still pictures shot at certain intervals and combined later in post to create motion pictures. And the eos m10 has over 18 megapixels sensor, so this means that it is going to be sharper than 4k whereas a normal fullhd video is only 2 megapixels...
thank you so much !
You're welcome and have fun shooting!:-)
Awesome review! Just ordered the m10, very eager for it to arrive! One kind of off topic question though, in which city are these photos taken? I'm so curious cause it looks so beautiful!
Thank you so much for the compliment! Really helps me on wanting to improve and produce better future contents!:-) The song is called: Sappheiros - Fragments. And congrats on you new camera! Have fun shooting!:-)
David Cuhls Thanks for the info man! Hope you keep uploading videos in the future! I'm just wondering one more thing, in which city are the photos at the end of the video taken? It looks so beautiful!
Thank you, will definitely do!:-) I shot the photos in Rotterdam and Utrecht (they are in the Netherlands) :-)
David Cuhls Ok, so the lens I got with the camera just won't do for close up photography, in my case: stop motion. Would you recommend another lens that can give great close up shots? Any Ef-m lenses? Ef-m 55-200? Or was I naive to think that a mirrorless camera could do stop motion close up photography in the first place? Thankful for advice!
Hi, I it's not about the actual camera, it's just the lens that is not made for that kind of close up. I think going with the Canon Ef-m 28mm Macro might be better than the Ef-m 55-200mm as the 55-200mm can't focus closely and the only the you can do to achieve your result that you are looking for is probably to stand back for with the camera and zoom to get close to the scene. However, with the macro lens, you can do close up and the 28mm Macro does have a built-in light at the front of the lens and this might help you to get a bit of an extra light when getting closer to your object. I hope that helps and if you more questions, feel free to ask as well.
Sorry about many questions but how is the battery life of this camera in real life usage? And how hard or easy is it to change settings in PASM modes in the small touch screen compared to an entry level DSLR which has more physical buttons that can be accessed with the thumb?
Very easy, using a touch screen can just as quick and sometimes even faster than having normal dedicated button. You can just touch everything at your finger tips without letting go of what the camera is seeing:-)
Thanks for taking the time to see and reply to comments...you don't see that with a lot of youtubers nowadays. I will bother you with on more ;) Between the M10 and EOS 100D, which would you recommend?
I would personally go for the 100d because of the more accurate and faster autofocusing system. The video quality is also a little bit sharper. that being said, if the smaller form factor of the m10 matters more and if you really want a full articulating screen, the m10 is way better in this respect. The M10 is also a lot smaller and letter with it's lenses, this means that you could bring the m10 out more to take pictures with than the 100.
Hey David. I have a question,, which setting would you suggest to get a more blurred background effect with this camera? Thank you.
Hey, you have to set you aperture value "f-value" to as low as possible because the lower the number is, the more light the lens will let into the camera thus, the blurrier the background is... But then this also depends on the type of lens that you have becuase it depends on how much the lens will allow the light into the sensor... :-) So the f-value of f/2.8 will give you a more blurry background than using f/4.0 but you also have to bring your object closer to the camera as well as bringing the object further away from the background... I hope that helps to a certain extent, if you still have more questions, feel free to ask me and I will do my best to answer:-) Otherwise, have fun shooting:-)
U can buy online YONGNUO 50mm lens. That perfect enough for take potrait photo, i got one ☝️ 😝
David how's the shutter sound on the M10? Quieter than a DSLR? My friend has a 1200D and it goes clackety-clang very loudly.
It's a lot quieter than the DSLR shutter sound because it does not have the mirror flipping up and down sound as well as the motor for the mirror. So what you essentially hear is just the sound from the curtain, which is not loud at all:-)
David Cuhls thanks mate!
Sorry but one more thing because I'm very indecisive lol..is the white version of this camera - the one you have - slippery to hold by one hand? The black one has a matt surface so shouldn't be a problem but the white one looks smooth and shiny.
The white version is definitely more slippery than the black version. However, it's not buttery slippery, as long as if you are careful with your equipment, everything will be fine;-)
Thanks :)
loved this review David! subbed!
Thanks so much for the compliment and for the support!:-) I really appreciated it, support like this really helps me to plan and try to improve my channel even more!:-)
I'm going to Jamaica next month and looking to upgrade so I can get better quality when vlogging. Obviously I'll edit to sharpen detail etc but for raw footage I'm stuck between Canon M10 and Sony a5000?!?
Thanks 😊
If you are more into better RAW files for photos, nicer skin tone, faster and easier to operate camera, I would say that the Canon would be the better option. However, if you want faster autofocusing system and just a little bit sharper video quality, the Sony would be a better choice for you:-)

What is the difference in settings/editing between your sample time lapse and the sample video? I feel like the video looks a lot more grainy
Time-lapse are pictures that was taken with different intervals and the resolution is higher than 15 megapixels where as the video is only full-hd (around 2 megapixels), so no doubt that time-lapse footages are less grainy than the video and the time-lapse was exported as a 4k video...
oooh understood! Thanks for the reply im such a newbie with cams LOL
You're welcome:-) It's okay, photography and filmmaking is fun but sometimes the technical things can be not as exciting as the end result:-P
Hi
What's the interval you choose for your samples of timelapse, at the beginning ot the video ?
Thanks
hi, I was using between 3 to 7 seconds interval depending on the lighting situation for the time-lapse video at the beginning of the video. Thanks for watching:-)
Hi, I really like your videos reviewing camera products. Keep moving on ^^
In general, I am about to choose a camera for my trip and later use.
I am more on taking landscape, people, some small animals and sometimes night time city shot. Do you think this is a suitable one for me?
I heard that M20 will be released this August also ^^
Thanks in advanced
Hi! Thank you so much for the compliment, really helps me a lot to wanting to improve and produce better contents in the future. :-) For the price and what it can do, I think that this camera will produce really good results for what you need. However, for night shots, the camera will focus a little bit slower than in the day time as it will need to actually try to hunt for focusing (but the camera also has a focusing assist lamp, so that can help quite a bit at night). The M20 will surely be an upgrade but whether or not you need that feature is what you have to ask yourself. If the m10 already has got all the features (if not most of the features) that you need, then maybe safe the money and buy this one. It is still a powerful camera for the price range. :-)
Thanks for this :) I am gonna buy it tomorrow. Saling off at my place
Hi, which lens did you say was a faster focusing lens? It was not clear to me.. thank you....
Hey, the 15-45mm is the faster lens and the 22mm is the better in lowlight and sharper lens:-) I am so sorry for not talking very clear, my english is not that good... I am really sorry..
Oh David thank you for taking the time to reply and for your clarification..... I'm about to invest in this camera and Ive been looking at it for a while.... I know nothing about photography but I think I have a good eye and I capture some great shots from my iPhone. :). I just found your channel today and like your in-depth approach although I do not know any photo-speak ... I will watch you and continue to learn so thank you..... If I get stuck Im going to email you...... lol!!! Thanks again and happy shooting!!!
I am glad that I could help and if there is something that you don't understand, feel free to just send me a message via RUclips of Instagram and I will do my best to help. :-) Good shots can come from any camera, as a long as if the shot that you've taken is good and tells a story, it does not really matter anymore which camera (your smart phone, cheap compact camera, high-end cameras), that's all that it matters by the end of the day. :-) Thank you so much for your support and I will do my very best to improve myself and to produce better content:-) Have fun shooting!!
What video settings do you use when filming? eg. 1920x1080? 1080x720,? And is it on autofocus or not?
Hey, I was using 1920x1080p and I use manual focus:-)
David Cuhls Thank you. Can you do a vlog using the canon m10? please? thank you in adv. 😊
haha, maybe I can do one after my final exams and after I have my camera back.. What kind of vlog with the camera would you like to see?
Hi, I just made a vlog with the M10 as you requested but the video may take a day or two to upload as I have really slow internet connection:-)
David Cuhls Really? Thank you so much! just subbed btw 😁😃
I gave you a sub. I am just thinking to buy this camera for vlogging and more artistic videos. Is it a good choice?
Hi, thank you so much for the support, really means a lot to me and really helps me to push myself for to produce better contents! Regarding the camera, I think it is indeed a good all around camera whether for vlogging, taking pictures, and more. However, if you want to specifically do video, you might find other cameras such as the Eos M3, Eos m6, and the Sony A5100 might do better for video (they are roughly in the same price range depending on where you live [especially the m3]). But for taking pictures, the m10 is a really really nice camera for its price:-) (I hope that helps) If you have other questions, feel free to ask at any time otherwise, I wish you a great time and have fun taking photos!:-)
David Cuhls Thank you very much for answer. I am actually interested only in filming and vlogging, that is why I asked. I need a good quality videos, flip screen also is very usefull and of course I need something not expensive. So I will check out those cameras which you recomended. :-) Yes support is very important. Whwn I started a channel then I had a support from one lady and we started to exchange mails so it gave me a power :-)
May I know how you do the time lapss for the m10? Link me please if you have any tutorial on that thing.. thanks :)
cascable on ios or dslr controller on android, both cost around 10$ and they connect wirelessly to your camera and take a picture at a certain time, after that you need to put the pictures togheter and make a timelapse. Other than that there's no other option :/
I may buy this camera tomorrow.
Ohh okay, let me know how it goes and feel free to ask me any questions if you need help/recommendations with anything:-) Otherwise congratulations on your new camera and have fun shooting!:-)
@@DavidCuhls Check out my channel and tell me what you think! :) ruclips.net/user/gaborlonyai
I'm planning to buy a camera soon but I'm still confused on what to buy. Is the canon eos m3 better than the m10 when it comes to photography?
Well, I think that they both will deliver really good results and that depends on the photographer of course. But in terms of feature sets, quick in operation and other technicality for both photography and filmmaking, it is obviously better on the M3.
Thank you :) It helped a lot :)
Pleasure to help! I am glad that it helped:-) If you have any more questions feel free to ask, otherwise, I wish you a great time and have fun shooting!:-)
Thank you for the reply :) and oh by the way, which is better for beginners? the eos m3 or the m10? Because I'm just a beginner.
In this case, I would say the M3 might be a better choice for the long term investment but in terms of 'easy-to-use' then the M10 would be better for beginners. However, some people can be a fast learner and would still like to continue using the same camera a little bit longer, so in this case, I would still recommend the M3. :-)
I like the music in it .. goes really good with the shots! tell your house mates to sort it out :P
Haha, thank you:-)
However Cannon m10 or m3 is best camera?
The short answer is the m3. The m3 for sure an older camera but but it has better autofocusing system with a better sensor as well. Further more, the m3 also have more manual controls and this is very useful if you want to have more control of the camera and of course for the long-term-investment. :-)
Do you have any thoughts on Sony's A5000 compared to this one?
The A5000 will have a little bit sharper video and faster auto focusing system. However, the m10 is faster and easier to use. The m10 has that nicer screen colour as well as the touch screen will allow you to focus where you want and operate everything faster.
Can I see how a full zoom photo looks like from its default lens?
I don't have them anymore because the video is old, but you can go on flickr and search for the photos that was taken with this camera and the lens combination and see it for yourself :-)
Nice video content! I am planning to buy a mirrorless camera. Which one do you recommend: Canon eos m10 or Fujifilm xa10? Thanks in advance, David xoxo.
I am looking for camera that has a good image quality than video.
Hi, I am so sorry for the late reply... Regarding your question, I personally would pick the eos m10 because the colour of the images is better as well as offers more manual controls (should you want to have more manual controls)... The user interface in my opinion is also easier but faster to operate as well. That being said, the xa10 is a little bit better in autofocusing in the evening, if that matters a lot for you. But for photography in general, I would recommend the eos m10. But I still do recommend you to go the shot and look at both cameras, either take a look at it or really hold them in your hands and use it for a bit and see which one suits you best. Because at the end of the day it's your pictures and your colour might be different from mine:-) I hope that helps somewhat, if you have more questions, feel free to ask as well and I will do my best to answer them as soon as possible:-)
Which is better... canon g7x mark2 or canon eos m10?
I'm torn in choosing what camera to buy. Please help me
For photography, I would go with the eos m10 as you can change lenses and create different perspective with the look. Furthermore, you have a bigger sensor, this is better for creating blurrier background. The G7x mark ii will have sharper video and better autofocusing system in video than the eos m10 though. The g7x mark ii is also more compact, so you might find easier to carry it around and allows you to take more pictures. (all in all, I would suggest the m10 over the G7x mark ii)
Omg thanks for replying😄
You're very welcome and I hope you make the best decision for yourself and if you have more questions, feel free to ask, otherwise, I wish you a great time and have a fun taking pictures!:-)
I have a nx3000 from samsung (i am a beginner) I'm considering buying m10 because i think it's better. But it has lesser megapixel would that matter? What do you think? Is it a downgrade?
Hi, I personally don't think that it is a downgrade as the individual pixel on the m10 has more details and performs better in low light than the nx3000. I know this because a couple of years ago I wanted to buy the nx3000 but didn't because of lack of details from the pixels... Also, the m10 will even produce images that you can print on A3 or even A2 size paper just fine (even on the super fine print settings). Furthermore, 18 mega pixels isn't as you as you might think... To put it into perspective, ultra 4K videos are only approximately 8 megapixels... and the 18 mega pixels is almost 10 more mega pixels than ultra 4K resolution... (I hope that it helps) :-)
David Cuhls YOU'RE THE BEST!!!!! THANK YOU 💚
Hey great vid! what tripod do you use
Hi! Thanks so much for the compliment!:-) I was using two different tripods the 'Joby Gorillapod Focus' and the Manfrotto Befree tripod:-)
Hi! I'm planning to buy a camera but i cant decide between m10 and 1300d? Can you help me out?
Well, if more manual control, better autofocusing system, longer battery life and a bit sharper video is more important to you, then the Eos 1300d is for you. However, if portability, versatility, touch screen, articulating screen is more important to you, then the m10. Furthermore, if you haven't really use either type of cameras before, the smaller and lighter form factor camera body could also mean that you might take it out more and shoot more with it. :-) I hope that helps:-) If there is still something that is unclear or if you have more questions, feel free to ask as well!:-) Otherwise, I wish you a great time and have fun shooting!:-)
David Cuhls hey, thank you so much for answering! I really want the m10 but do you think I can use it for concerts?
Image quality-wise, I do recommend the m10 but depending on the type of concert and the light conditions that you will experience, the 1300d might better for focusing in concerts.
David Cuhls how about zooming in?
David Cuhls sorry for asking too much this is just gonna be the first time im buying a camera and i wanted to make sure before buying, thank you
Which one would you recommend canon eos m10 or the canon g7x mark ii?
For speed, video, and portability, the G7x mark II. But for getting different kinds of images (being able to use different lenses) and the colour of the end results, the m10:-)
thank you!
You're welcome:-) and if you have any other questions, also feel free to ask. Otherwise, have a great time and have fun shooting!:-)
What tripod were you using? Also where do you buy?
Hi! I was using the Joby GorillaPod Focus Tripod and I got it from Amazon.de :-)
Not bashing anything but how can you compare the EOS M10 to High end like the 70D
I totally understand that they are both completely different type of cameras and targeted for different type of people. But I guess I just wanted to make it more clear of what to expect and what not really to expect from the Eos M10. Also, I do own the 70D (as the review was shot on the 70D), it just helps me to explain more about the M10... If that made any sense...
David Cuhls the video is well made. Because you're listing your dislikes and likes, but I'm looking to get a camera myself. I'm torn between the Canon EOS M10 and the Canon Rebel T6i. Since on amazon they both have a bundle around the same price USD.
Ohh, I see. Well, if you prefer the portability yet still have that good quality, then the M10 is the way to go. However, the T6i will have better/sharper video footage and will allow you to have more manual controls. The T6i is also better with focus for stills and the fact that it has an optical viewfinder, the T6i will consume less battery. That being said, due to the smaller footprint of the M10, you might find yourself taking the M10 out to take pictures more than the T6i. Now it's just you to see which factor is more important. The image quality straight out of both cameras will look very identical though.
So there is no mic output for a external mic? Is there any solutions or anything you or anyone could recommend? This camera is basically everything i am looking for just wished there was a mic output. Any solutions? Thanks!
My simple solution to that is just get a nice sound recorder (like the zoom h1n) and record external sound and then sync it in post... This is actually better as zoom h1n will have better sound than even if the camera had the mic port and stick the mic on it because DSLRs amplifier isn't that good for proper sound recording:-)
David Cuhls thanks for the advice! I will take that into consideration. I didnt know the audio is better than if it was plugged in. Just subscribed 👍🏼
I am glad that I could help!:-) Thanks so much for the support and these kind of support helps me to try to think and create more content!:-) Yeah, if you record external sound and later sync in post, it's usually better but the only down side is you have to spend that a little bit extra time in post... That being said, if you get used to the workflow of it, it's will just be natural:-)
Hey! Have bought this camera yesterday! Maybe its a bit outdated and worse than the older eos m,but the price is sometimes the lowest for it. Like to og canon m cost 250 euro in Poland and So does the m3 (but no Just the body). The m10 comes with the lens and extras for less 175 euro. So on the budget it isnt the worst optuon to start! Maybe sinking of the prices comes from the video quality or that there is no mic jack and hot spot. I hope that the harsher options will em rance the creativity! There are Little limits when you're ready to look for solutions! Thank you for your video! While waiting for this oldie I can learn about it! :)))
Hi, you are totally right, the more limitation, the more creative you can get. Of course the m3 will take sharper videos, offers more options when it comes to both shooting videos and photos as well as offers the ability to do many more things like mounting different accessories and more. However, the m10 is a tiny camera that still can produce really nice images and video if one can put in the extra work and effort. The limitations of the camera may be the very factor that allows the user to think of different ways to over come it as well as focus more on the situation, subject and the story that they are shooting. Thank you for sharing your experience, I wish you all the very best with your new camera, stay safe and have fun shooting!:-)
I LOVE IT.
Thank you:-)
Hi, great video! Can you explain me the difference between the two lenses that you used? thank you :)
Hi, thank you for the compliment and for watching! Means a lot to me.:-) The main differences between the Canon Ef-m 22mm and the Ef-m 15-45mm is that the 22mm is a fixed focal length (it cannot zoom) but it is sharper and allows a lot more light into the sensor than the other lens. The benefit of have a lens that allows are light into the sensor is that it is easier to get that blurry background when taking portraits or another objects that you want to have that really nice blurry background. It is also better in lowlight situations. Furthermore, this lens also has better contrast than the other lens. Sure, the downside might be the fact that the lens cannot zoom but the positive side to that is that it will allow you to get more creative with the perspectives when taking pictures. This lens also has a smaller but better/stronger built quality than the zoom lens.
On the other hand, the 15-45mm lens is more versatile when traveling with the ability to zoom from wide angle to semi telephoto. It also has a faster autofocusing system and despite not being as sharp as the 22mm but it does not mean that it is not sharp. This lens is sharp enough for the resolution of the camera and also has good contrast even though not as good as 22mm. But the one thing that this lens has that the 22mm does not have is the image stabilisation option. This is really good when taking pictures in low light as well but also when taking action pictures.
These are just the main differences, I hope it helps somewhat, if it's still not clear, feel free to ask me more questions and I will be happy to answer it with the knowledge and experience from using them:-) (Sorry about my English, it's not my native language, so I am sorry for any misunderstandings)
Thank you so much!!
Hi. Can i focus and make a shot just by touching the screen? Thank you.
Hi, yes you can focus and take the picture by just touching the focus area on the touch screen:-)
Can you give us the flat profile for photo and video with eos m10? Using picture profile setting?
Sure, so just set the contrast and saturation down within the picture profile and your image should be a bit more flat for you to grade and correct later on in post:-)
David Cuhls I assume the image profile is applied on video and photo(JPEG) but its not applied on RAW image capture is that correct? I luckily beside my camera right now and I set it on Neutral and crank saturation and contrast all the way down, i leave the color tone on default (i dont knaw what is color tone and cant see much difference on my picture) and sharpness increased by 2, thanks David... Subscribed
Hi, sorry for this late reply, for some reason RUclips put your comment on my spam folder and I just checked it just now... Sorry about this again. However, the image profile will be applied to the RAW image, once set. That being said, because it's RAW, you will be able to still tweak more about of the image file later in post the JPEG files. That being said, I think you should use different image profile for both videos and still images as they may give you the look that you may not want as shooting video and shooting photos will require different looks, in my opinion.... But thank you for subscribing, it really means a lot! If you have any more questions, feel free to always ask and I will do my best to answer them!:-)
David Cuhls awesome tips
Hi I am thinking on buying the canon m10 but I am still not sure because I want it more for taking pictures than vloging and every video says that is better for that. Is first cámara I m bying I would like something in a good price. In amazon the price of these ones is 450$ something like that.
In my opinion, the Canon Eos M10 takes great pictures! It can take better pictures than videos (but that's just according to my experience and opinion from using the camera). I think that throughout the video, you can see sample of my images that I've taken with the camera and I hope that those images could help you to decide more about the camera.
So I personally would say, go for it, it's a great camera for taking pictures at it's price point. The colour you get, the easiness of use as well as a well built camera, I think it's really worth the price!
yesss, Rotterdam!
Haha, thanks!:-) Thank you very much for watching and have fun shooting!:-)
Thnx ! I orderd my canon Eos m10 yesterday. It will be delivered any moment now ! So excited
Cool! I wish you a great and if you have any questions feel free to ask, otherwise, congratulations on your new camera and enjoy shooting with it!:-)
Compared to a Iphone 6s? How much better is this cam?
This camera will be better in low light, having a more robust image file which is better if you would like to edit the images later on. Furthermore, this camera has a much bigger sensor so you can create a better and more natural looking blurry background (Bokeh) and the ability to change lenses already allows you to get so many perspectives. This camera also has more manual functions to take pictures than the iPhone 6s... That being said, if you are focusing on video, the iPhone 6s video is sharper because it will shoot 4k but the colour and of the eos m10 that it produces is better and you will be able to change to more diferent perspectives with the eos m10... I hope that somewhat helps, if you have further questions, feel free to ask as well, otherwise, have a nice day and have fun shooting:-)
hi i have this camera to but please tell me how do u do the timelapse???
hi, there is an app for iOS (iPhone) called "Cascable" and this app allows you to control the camera wirelessly and set time-lapse with it. After you have all of the pictures you need to make time-lapse, you just have to combine all of them into a time-lapse video on your computer:-)
do u have an app for android to ???
I think there should be an app but I just don't know because I only use iPhone... sorry.. :-/
ah okay np ty ❤
okay, I am so sorry again.. But I wish you all the best, thanks for watching and have fun shooting:-)
ROTTERDAAAMMMMMMMM
Congrats on the new camera then and have fun shooting!:-)
How can I make videos with the fish eye effect I know how to take pics on this camera with that effect but for video I'm struggling pls help
Hi, I don't think you can take fisheye video with the m10 unless if you have a fisheye lens for it... (At least I don't know how to do it as I only have the option to turn a photo into fisheye after taking it...)
David Cuhls thanks u for your response David! Yeah you are right I probably will have to buy a lens that will do fish eye for the video
David Cuhls can you please record a video teaching us tips and tricks for beginners.
If you mean in photography, I do have a little series of videos called "budget photography" on my channel, so I think that it might help with photography as well and I am also working to coming out with newer episodes as well. Or do you mean tips and tricks for the camera itself?
name app you control canon m10 shot timelapse.
The name of the app that I used to control the time-lapse with is called "Cascable". It allows you to control all the software settings such as your ISO, aperture, shutter speed, tap to focus, intervals and much more. This works with pretty much all of the eos m series actually. So you just have to set how many shots you want according to the time of the footage that you've calculated with. Then you dial your intervals and then the app will take the amount of pictures in accordance to your intervals for you. Then you can merge all the photos into time-lapse when you are back on your computer.
That being said, this app is only available on iOS platforms and not android and I really don't know the android equivalent of the app. I hope that this have help somewhat, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask at any time. Otherwise, I wish you a great time and have fun shooting
How i can do bulb mode? And how about using external flash?
The bulb mode can be controlled with an app on the smartphone that supports it, in my case, I used the app called "Cascable", it is available for iOS system. I think the only way you can use the external flash is to set the external flash to the slave mode and then trigger that external flash using the built in flash from the camera.
hi, what apps are you using with this camera?
Hi, I used an app called "Cascable" and it is available only for mac and iOS devices. This app allowed me to control the camera wirelessly from normal manual controls to time lapse controls. :-) (I hope that helps)
Hi, I am not sure if I understood everything completely because I am not Dutch (I am German/Thai)... From what I (assume) I understood is that you wanted to know if the camera can film with other lenses right? The answer is yes, the camera is capable of filming with other lenses from canon and some lenses is sharper than this as well:-)
David Cuhls oh sorry no i mean like you can buy the camera body seperated from the lens so what happends is u only film of take photos with the body ? Because i going to buy the body only
Hi, you actually need a lens so that the camera can actually see... Every camera needs a lens, your phone's camera also has a lens... If the camera does not have a lens, it will just be very blurry....
David Cuhls Oh so if I buy the camera without the lenses you can put on and change, the camera will make blurry images and videos?
You have to buy at least a lens for a camera to be able to take pictures and videos. It's the same as your eyes, without your eyes, you cannot see right? it works like that:-)
Hi david, how do u adjust the video setting??? Help me :(
On the menu setting, under the photo tab, it's the fifth tab :-) There you will find the video settings such as the resolution, AF, etc. :-)
David Cuhls whats the setting u use for the videos here?
David Cuhls FHD 25 is recommended or HD 50 is recommended for supreme video quality?
if you want to do a bit of slow motion, 50p HD is better but if you want to have a higher quality, better use 25 Full HD. For this video, I used Full HD 25p to record video, sorry for my confusion with the earlier reply.
David Cuhls thank u!
1more Thing whats the Music? sounds nice ;)
I cannot remember either but it's by the end credit:-)
what are your settings for this camera for vlogging or filmmaking?
I personally just use the 1080p 25fps resolution then I try to keep my shutter speed at 1/50th of a second. Then the aperture and ISO will depend on the lighting of the location and situation that you are in.
My settings are the same but when i film in manual i cant seem to focus properly like the Servo AF is on and after i switch it off i can't even focus
If the AI servo mode does not focus the way you want, then maybe turn on focus peaking during manual focus, maybe that might help you a bit.
how do i do that? sorry i'm really new this camera
thanks a lot :)
No worries. :-) When you go into the menu, you go to the second tab of the photo settings. There you will see all the settings for AF (focusing system). There you will see the menu called 'Focus Mode' and there you can set between Auto Focus (AF)/ Manual Focus (MF)/AF+MF. There you can switch to MF if you want. Then you can go to the next menu that says 'MF peaking settings' and there you can set your focus peaking. :-)
Would this be an upgrade over an old Sony NEX-5?
Hi, I think in some ways it can be an upgrade. The autofocusing system might not be as good as the NEX-5 but the image quality and the colour reproduction is (in my opinion at least). Furthermore, the easier user interface from the m10 makes it easier and faster to set your settings (but that comes after you get used to the camera layout already of course.). :-)
Thank you for your replay, I love when youtubers care so much about their audience to replay to a random guy in the comments asking about an obsolete camera. Anyway, I might just bit the bullet and get this Canon as soon as I find a good deal. Are there any other cheap mirrorless I should consider?
You might want to consider the Canon Eos M3 because Canon has released the new M6 and in so many parts of the world, the M3's price has dropped pretty dramatically. If you can even wait for the promotion time, then the M3 might be a better longterm investment as the files, colour, resolution, features, photos, videos options and many more are better than the M10:-)
how did you timelapsed? it have not timelapse mode!
I used the app called Cascable, it is for iOS devices and it connects to the eos m10 wirelessly via the wifi function of the camera. Then I can just set the intervals and other necessary settings there.
David Cuhls thx for the info
which is better Fujifilm XA10 or Canon M10? Thank you
The XA10 has faster focusing system than the M10 and a few more selfie features that the m10 does not have. However, I still prefer the m10 for it's colour right out of the camera and I also prefer the image files from the m10 more. Furthermore, the m10 is smaller in size and also have smaller lenses that goes with the camera. In my opinion, smaller camera in this case could make you want to take the camera out more often and shoot with it since it's less noticeable and more portable so that you can focus more on the pictures than the camera... But that's just my opinion, I hope it helps a little.. :-)
Thanks for the reply, highly appreciated it. It helps a lot 👍
No worries, I am glad that I could help:-) If you have more questions, feel free to ask at any time as well, otherwise I wish you a great time and have fun shooting!:-)
How did you create timelapse video using Canon EOS M10?
Hi! I used an app called Cascable (it's only available on iOS devices as of now). This app allows you to connect to the camera wirelessly and control most of the settings as well. However, you will pay around 9 euros for the timelapse feature but it really is worth it because you get a lot of controls and it is also not complicated. You can also see the live-view through the app as well, this means that you don't have to be right behind the camera all the time. :-)
did you use Photoshop on the photos? look ireal, I mean stunning :)
Some was processed through lightroom and some where straight out of the camera:-) Thanks:-)
How do u record time lapses
Hi, I use an app called Cascable. This app is unfortunately as of this time only capable with iOS devices and I don't know the alternative for android. The app is free to download but the time-lapse feature will cost around another ten euros/dollars to get. However, you can wirelessly control how many shots you want in how many intervals as well as control other settings like shutter speed, iso, focusing and aperture. So it is a very useful app to have if you have any of the EOS M series cameras. Then after the camera have taken all the photos at the set intervals, you just have to combine it into a time-lapse video using any video editor or there are also many good free softwares out there as well. :-)
hi,what is this for a app for timelaps ?
Hi, I used Cascable for the time lapse on an iOS device:-)
which is better...Canon 1300D or Eos M10?
In my opinion, I would pick the Canon Eos 1300d because of better file as well as faster autofocusing system. However, the M10 is faster and easier to operate and the small size makes it easy to carry it anywhere thus allowing you to take more images. :-)
The thing is, i like to shoot in 16:9, and i belive 1300d only shoot 3:2 and 4:3. Can i change de aspect ratio? on 1300d by 16:9?
If you shoot video, it will shoot 16:9 but I am not sure with photos..... But technically you can set it, I believe....
IS IT GOOD FOR MUSIC VIDEO ??
I think it will get the job done but I would recommend looking at the canon eos m3, eos m6 or the Sony a6000. They are older cameras (so the price has also dropped quite a bit) but the quality is much better and you will have more manual controls. Furthermore the focusing system is also much better on those cameras as well☺️

Where did you buy this camera for 230 euros? Im also from holland
Hi, I bought it from Media Markt but it was during a promotion. So I would suggest maybe look for promotions from electronic stores because sometimes they really have big discounts. Also, living in Holland means that you can also look at the web-stores from electronic stores in neighbouring countries like Germany where electronics can be cheaper in most cases and just have it shipped over to holland:-)
Witch electronic stores do you recomend?
is there a bulb shutter setting?
no, sorry...
