Wider blade, hollow grind, thinner blade stock... All of this three things do speak for a more slicy knife, because they foreward the possibility of a smaller, sharper edge angle. I'd take the SR1 anyway, because I have the SR1 Lite in Drop Point, and I like the ergonomics of the handle. #22aday Stay safe everybody, and stay blessed. Greetings from Germany!
I chose the AD 10 clip point for me and this is definately one fine knife. Its sharp right out of the box. Ive had it for a month and i say its one of the very best folders i have ever owned. Worth every penny !!!
Oh man, that’s some serious ‘Sophie’s choice’ right there! I do own both the AD10 and the (regular) SR1… Although I love the AD10, the SR1 has some ‘oldskool’ look and feel to it. If I had to choose I’d go for the SR1. Again, I do not have the Tanto 😅
Couple of different reasons why the AD10 tanto cuts better. The height of the blade is taller (back of spine to cutting edge) which allows it to have a thinner beginning the edge thickness that allows it to enter material easier. The hollow grind allows material to roll over the edge as you cut it as the hollow part gets thinner after passing through the initial cut which also allows material to separate easier. On the other hand a hollow grind has alot less stability on the edge as compared to a flat grind (convex grind is actually the strongest) this is why large choppers have flat or convex grind as compared to hollow ones. As long as you don't twist a hollow ground blade when removing from a deep chop it can be used for chopping as long as the steel is thick enough for the power applied. The AD10 tanto would be my choice as well because there is enough meat on the blade for chopping while being an excellent slicing tool. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
I love it!! Thank you for the Comp! I ordered both Ad 10's Drop pt and the Tanto! they mau both arrive on the same day!! Cant wait. I am going to have one of them Customized.. Prob the Tanto//
having carried and used an ad10 and both sr1s for over a year i have to say i like the handle on the sr1 better; but the ad10 is definitely the better cutter. if only there was a way to get the best of both in one knife...oh yeah they did that why i carry my 4max scout more often than my ad10 or sr1s.
I'll pick SR1 , after watching the crazy German guy Joe X give a SR1 lite tanto a torture knife test stabbing cars and beating it on bricks till the tri lock failed.
Hi Jimi, I love the elegant style of the AD10. And I love the hard and robust style of the SR1. I would prefer the tanto Sr1 over the clip point. I love the astonishing shape of the AD10s blade. For me, there is no reason to mix these best kind of its arts. SR1 Tanto is SR1, and AD10 is AD10. There is for me no reason to tanto this perfect shape of the AD10. Grets Marcel :)
I really like that drop point style of tanto on the AD-10. I have the SR-1 Lite so the shape compared to it's premium sister I virtually identical. The price was great on the AD-10 tanto so I snagged it up!!! Great review JS, as usual...
I need an ad10 to carry in my business(limo driver) the best run and most dangerous runs are called an ad . It means as directed. Its where your out for long stretches with multiple stops and don't know where your going or how long you'll be on duty. Ive found myself in the most precarious situations on ad's and think why not carry an ad on an ad.
01:18 You can tell the AD10 is hollow ground and the SR1 Iis not by how the grind transitions to the tanto. The AD10 has the beautiful semicircular cut into the tanto portion while the SR1 transition looks rather simple and basic. The tape on the cardboard you were cutting had the Gandolf magic on it "yooooou shall not paaaaaass"!
Hi Jimi, Yeah, the tip area is flat grind. Ho can you tell ? The lines of the tip (where it tapers to the tip) - watching from the spine - are straight, not slightly curved as the inferior lines of the tip which is slightly curved All tantos from cold steel having hollow grind have the full flat on the portion of the tip
Ah hell, I didn't know this was out. I just bought the Oyabun Limited Edition also in S35VN and both are $150, but I think I would have preferred the AD-10. The Oyabun is very short from edge to spine and I'd rather have the taller and longer blade. All in all the Oyabun isn't a bad knife, though, plus there were only 3500 made so they'll be sold out soon. I probably won't have any issue either selling or trading it if I ever decide to get rid of it.
SR1 (Lite) every time. You can hold it comfortably in forward or reverse grip, blade forward or rearward. There aren't many knived that can do this comfortably. Also it is, by design, one of their toughest folders. I bought the SR1 Lite first and liked it so much that I bought the much more expensive SR1 too (about 230€ where I live).
That’s interesting about the power difference in slight angles at the wrist. I never really thought about that, but I could see how that could be the case now that you mention it. I second the idea that the difference in ease of cutting has to do with the hollow grind and thinner blade stock on the AD-10 as you mentioned. Those things combined with the slightly longer distance of transition in thickness from the cutting edge to full thickness at the spine due to a slightly taller grind on the AD-10 make it feel noticeably slicier. That’s my only typical complaint with tanto blades - thick behind the edge and not a tall enough grind (too quick of a transition) to slide through things easily. I know they do that for toughness, but it doesn’t really fit with how I typically use my knives. I’d prefer more slicing capability. Thanks for the comparison. That AD-10 keeps looking better and better to me.
I have an odd request, can you do a review on the Cold Steel Double Agent 1 Karambit? I know you did a review on the Bowie Double Agent, but what would you think of a serrated Karambit version?
I will see if I can get one in. The one thing I will say is that a single edge Karambit can be a bit underwhelming. The real usefulness of a Karambit is that second edge. But I'll try to get one in this week or next.
@@Jimislash I completely understand, I have a double edged karambit for home defense when I’m using the restroom, however I find myself carrying very large curvy single edged karambits for added utility uses that a fixed blade could handle better with rough tasks such as cutting hard plastic or thick rubber. I’d just like a smaller more compact single edged Karambit that is not too curvy... ya feel me? Thanks, I love your channel and your content. Stay strong brother 💪 SKÅL!!!
The SR1 would be so much better if the blade were at least 1/8 wider, so it could taper to a much thinner edge it's still have the extreme spine thickness for very tough jobs.
AD10 has the same handle as the ultimate hunter..Its easier to deploy than the handle of SR1. Its the grind and blade thickness not the width of the bade of AD10 in my opinion. The best knife cold steel makes is the cheapest one Finn Folder.

SR1 definitely has that old school military type feel.

AD10 👍...the hand filling smooth grip; the hollow grind and size. The SR1 for tough, down and dirty use. But you should really have both 🤣
Exactly!

Ordered the AD10 tanto this morning

Good call on the Scout. Perfection.
I'm surprised I made it this far into the comments before the 4Max got mentioned haha
Both of the knives look awesome
They are.

Sorry. Beatdowns are a young man's game. I am trying to keep up. :)

Well said!
if there is one lesson I have learned in last two years it is , I DO NOT COMPLY !
therefor I refuse to choose !
I bought both already.............
Lol, nice. I won't comply either.
As soon as you said supermodels I just knew we were headed to Cindy Crawford 😆 🤣 😂 😹
Lol!
Yes!
CS should put a slight hollow grind on the SR1; the blade is thick enough to take it.
I agree.

I love them equally.
Are they the same clip pattern??
Similar but different.

I'd probably still take the AD-10.

Does anyone know when that new Cold Steel lock will come out?
I heard this summer.

Lol, I may have to farm it out.
Even stronger 💪 than Mr Slash super human strength I tell ya!
Like I have said Mr Slash don't own any of the big cold steels. If I could ever get one I think it would be an AD10, thanks for the video 📹
Midway USA box 📦 hmm is that where that 4MAX that was on sale might have come in, 😆
It could be. :)
Yep...they are both nice but I think I like the AD10 better.
Good choice!
Tanto ad10 ... I can now die in peace ...
Or LIVE covered in the blood of Your foes ….
A tough choice but I'd probably get the ad 10 first but would like to own both. Great video 👍
Thank you! Good choice. :)
Its really hard for me accept that there is anything better than my beloved AD10. 😁

I love tanto blades so I want both. lol I would buy the AD10 first then the SR1.
Wow Mrs Slash might have something to say about that choice 😆 🤣 😂 😹
Shhhhhh....
Ergos and slicing capability. That's why I have never been interested in the SR1. Super strong. But it just ain't that great for cutting things.
they are both good knives - the AD10 tanto just looks cooler - the sr1 looks much more boxy - the AD10 looks more comfortable that why i bought it
Ahhh Cindy Crawford that mole. :) Both are great knives no doubt. I still think the AD10 is the best knife Cold Steel makes (bold claim I know).
Not too bold. I know a lot of folks will agree with you. She had me drinking Pepsi, and I don't even like Pepsi. :)
I like the blade on AD 10.
Me too.
I have both knives. sr1 body line goes better with the tanto blade. I prefer sr1 tanto over the ad10 tanto.
Now throw the recon 1 tanto into the mix 😀!
That's a good one.

Oh yeah Mr Slash that is Devon Larratt finds much success in arm wrestling cause his wrist strength and wrist attack are masterful
He's insanely strong and brilliant.
Thanks for the nice video Jimi 👍🫡
Glad you enjoyed it. :)
finally i got My AD10 tanto in China
Awesome!
lol that SR1 cutting performance was shockingly bad. piss poor geometry
sr1
thats a hard choice but SR1
Haha, why choose? I think it's a just get both situation.
I like the way you think.
Wow Green & Pink is not a great combination
:) I ran out of other colors. But it's easy to find.
Get Torked
Fat blades are better, period. They look better,.function better, and even tho they're fatties, they get slim at the bottom😉😉
