It's not just SBI. It's EA as well. Gamers aren't going to buy a product made by people who openly and proudly show disdain for gamers.
The game would've failed whether SBI were involved or not. Outside of the colorful art, there's nothing attention grabbing and the whole thing looks generic as all hell.

I'm a black woman, I saw this game on an ad and was interested.
Saw it had the sweet baby stink and noped out hard. Honestly any current game with a black lead is now scrutinized because they've all been trash basically.
Yeah it's unfortunate that so many creators have leaned on race to defend their work and it only weakens it. Which, of course, doesnt reflect well and doesnt do any favors for new creators going a similar route.
Now, if you want a PHENOMENAL game with a black main protagonist, go for Prototype 2. One of my all time favorites

He was great as Bayek, and from the work he did on Origins I do think it showed he was talented and deserved his opportunities, but he decided the victim mentality was the correct path SMH.
His performance as Bayek has been my favorite of any of the last AC games since black flag. it sucks to find out he’s in with SBI

Abubakar Salim seems like a good guy in the interviews I've seen, and his heart was in the right place making this game (it was a tribute to his late father), so I don't want to trash him. It was just unfortunate for him that he chose to work with Sweet Baby Inc., and right before the Suicide Squad controversy went viral.
Exactly, I think based on what I saw of the game it had a chance. But the moment he sided with SBI and started crying about being a victim it was over.

Personally, I had this game on my wishlist and was going to buy it. I loved Mr. Salim's performance as Bayek in Assassin's Creed: Origins and Tales of Kenzera: Zau looked fun enough.
But... he released it after Marvel's Spider-Man 2, SS:KTJL, and SBI Detected. Once I was aware of why so many AAA games suffered from the same god-awful writing and knew he was C-level staff on SBI's European branch (Bebe Sucre Ltd.), I was out. Game was off my wishlist and I didn't give him a dime. Support overt social engineering on your own buck and time, Mr. Salim. I want no part of it.
If his game had come out a year earlier, he would have dodged the bullet. Zeitgeist zigged while he was still zagging. So it goes.

The only reason why I and many other knew about this game is because it went on the SBI Detected curator list. Other than that, no one talked about it. People didn't discuss it at all, whether for good or bad.

I’m actually a big fan of Metroidvania’s. This game had an interesting setting and colorful graphics, so I was engaged. That was until I saw SBI was involved. My interest instantly disappeared after I saw that.

Boycott isn't the right term. A boycott requires a consumer base that was planning on purchasing a product, then collectively decided not to, to send a message to the maker of said product. This game never had a consumer base to begin with, so it couldn't have been boycotted. It was made for people who don't play games, much less buy them. It was always destined to fail hard, it didn't need any outside help.
Don't know if many people are aware, but this is probably the only indy game that had Denuvo on it. And it wasn't a one month thing, it's still active on this game. And to have Denuvo on your game it costs an arm and a leg. Not even giant developers like Capcom can afford to keep it up on their games more than 1-2 years, because it works on a subscription model. And it's not % out of sales, you have to pay Denuvo the money before release and then a monthly fee. This "indy" game came out with it and 2 months after release, they are still paying for it. Imagine how much money this game burned, for those lunatics that funded it.
Far Cry games have tons of success showing world of tribal people. No forced diversity, in completely unique yet realistic settings.

He did make a correct assumption when said people only see him as a diversity hire. This is the consequences of DEI and ESG; people are hired based on their identity rather than their skills, so when someone is hired for their skills and happens to fall within the DEI category their skills are questioned. DEI does a big disservice for the ones who truly are talented.
I love how SBI always puts out a statement about how they were so happy and honored to have "improved" the last game with whatever studio that is now closing due to bad sales/failure of the game that used SBIs woke suggestions/demands.
