No it’s not! This movie was nothing more than a cash grab… it was a terrible movie. The only reason they made it was because Eminem’s popularity at the time. And he wasn’t acting, he was playing a fictionalized version of himself.
8 mile is Purple Rain. A mid western story of dysfunction, poverty, love/drama, defeating the antagonist for a small triumph that is centered around music, yet 8 mile doesn't steal anything from Purple Rain. Both are well directed quality films.
I’ve watched 8 Mile a dozen of times not because it is my favorite. Nor how influential Eminem’s story is very relatable to our own. But this movie taught me to how find my own individuality like he did.

Props for having the balls to watch a music themed movie. Most reaction channels ignore countless great films and rock n roll movies because they’re terrified of the music in the films. Hope to see you do more music themed movies in the future. In particular recommend “The Doors” (1991) “Love & Mercy” (2014) “La Bamba” (1987) “Straight Outta Compton” (2015) “Heavy Metal” (1981)
This movie always made me feel a bit more relevant because with more people knowing what 8 Mile is I can tell them I went to elementary school on 8 Mile. Still in the Detroit area but I live on 16 Mile now.
He's been offered main roles before, I believe he's said it takes away the focus from the music he wants to do and will only do it if they film in Detroit. Really enjoyed your reaction and commentary at the end, have a great day!
I'm a drummer, vocalist, and semi-rapper. Being a Juggalo, the beef with Em...I respect talent. I don't care who or what you are, if you got it, you got it. Never let people bring you down. You make your own destiny, take it! And Em really puts that in stone in this movie.
In regards to a potential acting career for Em, he got offered Elysium but didn't want to leave Detroit for however many months. He was also attached to Southpaw for ages, but when it finally was getting up and running, he didn't want to do it, but he stayed on as a producer and put together the soundtrack.
The extra scenes are great, he actually battles some of the audience members for real even though he wasn’t meant to because his voice was stressed out but he still did it. And he was on a bunch of pills while recording this barely sleeping
True story, all of the battles were filmed at St Andrews Bar inside the basement known as The Shelter. 🎥 Filming those shelter scenes were as long as 8-to 15 hours. My friend at the time along with my cousin & I. Were there for both the beginning and the end battles as extras. Got paid up to 1800 For both scenes.
I always assumed the ending was Rabbit and Future saying goodbye to each other. They both knew Rabbit was going to stop wasting time with them, partying, burning down houses and going to rap battles with no prospects. He's going to focus on his job to save up for studio time so he can put records out, get signed and eventually leave Detroit. At least, that's how I read Future's face and the sombre tone of their last conversation.
Future in the movie was to depict "Proof" who was Em's best friend in real life who got shot in a club and passed. R.I.P. Proof. Also, Wink was depicting Royce the 5'9". The rest of his friends were an interpretation of D12.

I was in my first semester at college when this came out everyone was hype to see this when it was first announced when I was still a senior in high school. Even though this was a comfort zone kind of part for him, Eminem did a great job acting here especially being his first time. Would’ve been interesting to see him try other roles after this.

Not sure I agree with you all on the Brittany Murphy, Eminem, and Eminem's friend love triangle (or hook up traingle). Yes, no one is anyone else's property, and nothing is official especially since BM and Eminem were pretty new to each other. But if you follow all the scenes leading up to catching BM effing in the studio, then it is definitely a betrayal on both BM and his friend's parts. BM is talking to him in very strong, loving language saying he's special and whatnot. And his friend knows he has a thing for BM. So both of their vibes are very supportive till that point. Based on how thet behaved around him, it implies they really care for him. So, based one that, for anyone with at least a little moral fiber, it's an unwritten rule that you wouldn't eff around. A lot of the stuff early on in relationships shows what kind of person you are or how much you care, so I am totally on Eminem's side with that one.
