I haven't watched this but I think we use the word "slow" a little inaccurately to describe a story giving us something different from what we're used to. People used that word for several episodes of Andor, but I don't think a single episode was "slow". Stuff happened in each one, some just didn't have big action scenes.

This was a DLC for the game called Left Behind like the episode. It was pretty close to the events in the game. So yes, this was part of the game. I look forward to watching your gameplay Biss.

Not sure they will show what happened to Riley. Ellie is wearing the same cloths as in the first episode when she was locked up so it's assumed Riley started to turn, and Ellie had to kill her. Then she left the mall and Marlene or someone from the firefly's found her. If you remember Ellie told Joel that she had killed someone before. And with the time being so short between this night and Ellie being found by Marlene. Riley was the person she killed.

The episode is essentially happening in the Downloadable content for the game that was Titled "Left Behind". I don't think they are going to tell you anything more than what they did about what happened to Ryely. This episode was her story. There are only two more episodes left for the season.

23:33. It was very close to the game, story wise! There was a lot of game play omitted, as per usual, but the story hit the bigger notes very well! This is a DLC to the original game, so it’s like it’s own game, that filled in a giant time/context gap the original game used as a cliff hanger and what we couldn’t know about Riley! If it were me, I would have done exactly like the game in the show, and then did a two part extra a week after the show ends. It would have made so much more sense, and they could have really done it more parallel to the DLC.

This episode is pretty much spot on to the dlc Left Behind. Their are some moments they left out and changed up a bit however I think when you do play the dlc I think you'll have a better appreciation for this episode.

  • @TomTomson81

Great episode almost exactly how the DLC was. With a lot of character depth for Ellie.
If you pay attention, the episode shows you exactly how the story with Ellie and Riley ends. They don't have to show that explicitly.
Riley played Mileena in MK II and Ellie played Baraka (last game).
Both were Lovers in the game.
Baraka skewered Mileena with his blades as finisher. That was the metaphorical endgame. That's how Ellie killed Runner-Riley.
I think it's clear she stabbed her.
That's why Ellie asked Joel in episode 2 what it was like for him to kill an infected, knowing that they once were human. I think she needed a comparison to her own feelings because she couldn't classify them. That's why she tortured and stabbed the stalker in episode 3. She first wanted to see if he felt something and then the anger broke through in her because an infected bit her friend and killed him.
Ellie kills Riley and because Riley didn't get in touch with Marlene the next day, she showed up at the mall and took Ellie with her.
At least that's what I think. There are hardly any other options.
Mortal Kombat was supposed to be the game in the game, but Naughty Dog didn't get permission. So they invented a game. Now HBO has rights to both games and that's how it became possible.
The escalator can also be seen metaphorically. No matter how much Ellie runs against it (sometimes everything stays the same, sometimes there are highs), it still goes further and further downhill for her.
Also, we've learned that Ellie's first impulse is to leave when she feels pushed away or is pushed away, but she keeps coming back. This is one parallel between Joel and Riley. Another parallel is, both are Ellie's protectors. And don't forget Ellie's greatest fear of ending up alone. In the end, she will try everything possible to save Joel, which she was not able to do with Riley.
Ellie has lost Riley and Sam to the fungus. She is the cure. She wants her survival to have value.
Here it is shown no matter Fedra or Fireflys, for both you are just a number. They tell you what you want to hear and what benefits them, to achieve the respective goals. And there are always only 2 options to choose from. And both are manipulated into thinking there are not more. There is only one clearly good or one clearly bad choice. The officer at the beginning is not nice, he is manipulative. This can be seen in Riley who is allowed to supervise the sewage work. The Fireflys are no different. Everyone comes in quickly, they made you feel you belong to a family and you are important to them. In fact, Riley is parked alone in the mall with bombs. These also kill civilians, as we saw in Episode 1 on Tess when one of these bombs exploded, killing two teenagers. Lives that are stuck. Eat or die.
The series in general is all about the number 2.
Bill and Frank, Ellie and Joel, Ellie and Riley, Sam and Henry, Joel and Tommy, Kathleen and Daniel, two choices, Mortal Kombat 2, joke book volume 2, red or green. T(w)ogethernes
I actually thought Ashley Johnson (OG Ellie) would have her cameo here. Obviously, this was not the case, but it comes later in another memory. Most likely in the season finale.
Next episode Troy Baker (OG Joel) will get his cameo.

Another great episode, they did a good job of exploring Ellie's crush on Riley. Bella is an oustanding actor but this episode was on another level, even when she was wearing a mask, you knew exactly what she was thinking. I wasn't particularly convinced with Storm's portrayal of Riley though, maybe it's because there's such a contrast in acting styles. Troy Baker in the next episode, be cool to see him in the show. (Joel's Voice actor in the game)

  • @simonspoke
    @simonspoke Год назад +1

All of this was in the game.... Specifically the DLC for it.
And I think enough was inferred during the episodes to know what happened to Riley. I personally don't think they are going to show any more about that part of the story as they only have 2 episodes left and a lot to cover in them.

Very touching episode. I can't imagine being bitten and that sudden realization you are going to die.
I definitely would have lost my temper like Ellie. Can't believe Riley was so calm about it.
Its horrible. After what happened with Riley there's no way Ellie's going to give up on Joel. They are why most people watch.
    I'm worried about season 2
    On a happier note
Ellie is such an adorable kid. Even when she's angry. Bella Ramsey is doing an amazing job. I forgot she is actually 19.
I grew up in the 80's so love anytime we get some of that vibe.
All you need to make a dark creepy abandoned mall less scary is Neon lights, 80's music and arcade games with lots of free quarters. It's even better if you're with someone you love.

I’m definitely looking forward to you playing, cuz you will be in for a big surprise as to the pacing and action! As to the show, if you don’t care about the characters, then their stories won’t really be significant to you. It’s of no fault to you, the viewer! If a story doesn’t move you, it doesn’t. It has never been exactly a Run and Gun type of show. It is more focused on emotional storytelling rather than something fast paced. 🤔

The only mediocre episode so far. Takes you right out of the main story and kills all the Joel and Ellie momentum that’s been built. Could easily have been condensed to a half hour.
