I would not call a Kellson a replica.. every dimension is completely off, and mechanically its about as different as a steak and a pickle. It is however, greatly inspired by a GT-40 Mk 1, and this is one of the best finished Kellson's I have seen. I AM an old fart, been around the sports car scene for over 6 decades. I remember when these VW body kits were first produced. Well done. Keep it rolling👌
I am really jealous, always dreamed of building a GT40 kit, but my job building pipelines and gas compressor all over the did not allow me the time or place to make one. Now retired in Thailand, wealthy having the shop to build one the problem is getting a kit and then a permit to drive it in Thailand.
My dad has a 2005 Ford GT with less than 8,400 miles on it. Slate gray, he loves that car. This one is definitely a replica but a good one nonetheless. The old school GT40s are so cool, especially the legit ones. Pops also has a 2018 Ford Mustang GT500 he loves as well…he’s a he’s a ford guy through and through. He has a 2021 F-150 Lariat 5.0 V8 Coyote he uses to tow his 26ft. Sea Hunt w/ twin 150 Yamaha Outboards and it tows it no problem. Ppl told him to go with a 6.7 power stoke F-250/350 but the 150 is more than enough to to the job. It can tow 14,000 lbs. he tows his show cars when traveling as well. Funny enough his favorite sports car he owns is his 2021 Lotus Evora GT (416 HP in something that weighs sooo little) it’s a blast to drive. But yea I prefer the lotus on country roads and the GT500 on straighter roads. (He won’t let me drive the ford GT😂). He also inherited a 1991 Ford Ranger XLT with the 2.3L 4-Cylinder regular cab. He totally restored the entire truck and only has 54,000 miles for such an old truck. 5-speed manual bright red. It’s a BLAST to drive even though it’s slow as hell 😂. Just a fun antique
I was suspicious it was a kitt car, I didn't think the door opened like a real GT40? What gave it away the most though was the exhaust note at the end. Awesome looking car regardless. Love the Gulf livery on it! 👌👍😎
It has no side windows at all, not even a crank. The real GT40 does not have an "ignition control panel" and the shock absorbers are extremely rudimentary. This is one of those kit cars people built around stripped VW's and those high set twin pipes with all the venting even look like an air cooled flat four.
As an experimental metal model maker (which at one time was the highest paid trade at GM) I can appreciate the work that went into crafting this machine. It shows me that if you had the opportunity to restore an original you’ve got the skills to do it.
How odd. I’ve never seen a gas station with a row of three pumps. I wouldn’t use the middle pump either since I could get boxed in by two other drivers just sitting in their cars on their phone or going inside the gas station.

@@darrenoldershaw5115Good "kit cars" are often better than the real thing... They're certainly made better nowadays and I can tell you my CAV GT+ is worth more than $40k. A lot more. I've driven a few genuine GT40s from the period, they're multi million dollar pieces of history and it was a real privilege to be given the opportunity. But you wouldn't want to drive them on the road, unlike the modern ones. You could drive mine pretty much every day if you wanted to and I do take it out all the time. It's got a modern drive train, modern suspension, modern brakes and air conditioning... it drives so much nicer than an original one and it's way, way faster too.
I can't afford to have a toy like this, and I'm sure most of the people putting it down can't afford one either. So congratulations on your very beautiful toy.

It’s VW powered for sure, no rad in the nose. Plus the GT-40 had twin fuel fillers that stuck through the nose behind the front wheel arches.
