Anything worthwhile stays relevant forever on here. I just got the Definitive Edition myself. Anyway I didn’t mean to be negative. Sorry. Overall a good video.
Hey man no negativity at all, I always appreciate any comment with something constructive. Albeit I have learned a lot since this video ha - I hope you enjoy the game dude!
Not really true. I've noticed a lot of changes since playing Dead Island, some good, some not. I've noticed that they changed the vehicles so that they're like in Riptide eg. One hit kills with truck, not constant backing over for higher level zombies(that's good!). You can now only get in one side of the vehicle like Riptide(that's kind of bad, but not a big deal). They changed the weapon crates to make them like Riptide....once a crate has been opened than it can't be opened again later on...THAT's BAD! The changed the challenges. Challenges suck now, before they used to offer great amounts of XP for completion, now it still takes the same amount to complete a challenge, BUT you're only rewarded in increments of 100, 200, 500, and finally 1000xp. That's incredibly bad! At higher levels these XP bonuses don't even make a dent. Even at lower levels they're not worth much, so there's no reason to grind on these challenges. You also can't change in the options so that Zombies don't level up with you. Don't care about that much. They also changed the XP rewards for the repetitive quests like fetching water, food, and alcohol. In the original Dead Island the XP reward given increases as your level increases, making it still worth while to return these items to the quest giver. Eg. The Champagne fetch quest at lower levels gives you an XP reward of 1000Xp, at higher levels I was getting around 4000XP for each bottle. Now in the redone version it's a flat xP reward. You will never be given more than a 1000xp no matter what level you are. The water fetch quest will never give me more than a 100XP. For me there are a lot of negative changes. They're not game breakers, if anything they just keep you from grinding on challenges, and doing fetch quests for extra XP. The biggest positive is that the game looks beautiful. I love the look of the new game! And it's made it worth it to me. I wanted to point out a couple other changes I noticed. Deo-bombs, Molotovs, and Alcohol no longer take up carrying capacity space(like Riptide) That's Good! Now another bad for me. The Ram's behavior has been changed. Before if a Ram was coming for you you could just climb up on a car, and the Ram would back off and go back, because it can't Ram you. It no longer backs off but will still keep coming for you. This kind of sucks because I used the car tactic a lot to back them off, or to buy time. They're not the hardest things to kill, just let em charge and side step, then hit them in the back.
moremetalthanyou71 Thanks for comment! That was a lot to read haha, in all honesty I stopped playing after I finished it and made this review. Glad you liked it lol. I played the fuck out of Dead Island the first time. I had every achievement in the game for 360....if that's an indicator on how much I love this game, so I noticed a lot of the differences, especially the challenges, right away. I used to grind on the challenges because of slight OCD, and the jumped you up levels, but there's no point anymore.

Zombies also don't float in water anymore. When you kill them, they stay at the bottom of the pool/ sea/ river. Another thing is the unrealistic color of blood. When you slash of an arm, the blood would be bright red almost cartoonish. I hate the Suiciders when they explode now.
I saw a handful of vs videos. And there are plus and cons on both sides. The Definitive Edition has overall better lighting and upgraded graphics. Basically it has the Dying Light engine. The original still looks very good and in some situations better. I like the original water better. And you can kick beach balls. And they exchanged some sweet billboards and poster out for pop ads. The trucks in the Definitive Edition look better and sportier.
I find them really frustrating. While I love the idea... the execution... meh. At least in PS3, you need to move the right stick up, and then down (or vice versa), in order to atack vertically. That's two movements, wich consume a lot of time in a game were the zombies have (leveled) life bars and once they're close start to rain an endless supply of punches on you. So analog is pretty useless compared to the fastest and simpler "digital" controls. There isn't even a boost in damage!
I liked the look of the DE edition and how smooth it is, but I hate how they replaced the guns with just the dying light guns. I like the ak74 look in the original but they replace it with some other gun. They didn’t even bother changing the icons for the guns. Like the desert eagle was changed to the police pistol in dying light,. Same goes for the standard pistol, it’s not the m9 anymore and was replaced with another model. I know I seem to be very upset with this but I understand that they had to change the models since it was outdated, but I would’ve loved it if they could’ve just retextured the gun and keep the same model. Other than that the game is very well remade lol.
I'm very pleased with the remaster. Dead Island is one of my favorite games, even though I know many people have a hatred towards it. Big thing I noticed, and it kinda irritates me, is the weapon models. Many of them have changed, some of which is good change, but others were a bad change. Specifically the morning stars, firearms, and the various types of blade weapons. The morning stars in DI were spiked balls attached to a stick, while in DIR it became a skull on a stick or a large metal ball. In this game however, the morning star, both heavy and normal, is just a large stone strapped to a stick. The firearms are also different looking, albeit it doesn't bother me as much. And lastly, the various types of blade weapons had their models either changed or swapped with a different weapon. I don't remember which weapons exactly, but for example, a sickle had the model of the scythe, the scythe had the model of the brutal sickle, the brutal sickle had the model of the exotic scythe, and so on. It's a minor gripe but as someone who put a lot of time in both last gen versions it's something that stuck out to me. The model changes are also very obvious considering that, despite the model changing, the icon for the weapon has stayed. Overall, I would say the models have improved greatly, especially when considering the modified weapon models. TL;DR, the weapon models were either changed on a lot of weapons or put onto the wrong weapons, firearms look different, and modified weapons look a lot better.
there is a huge story. spread out through collectibles. also the main story is pretty interesting too, the whole story is actually about Ryder white, we just happen to be in his way.
Being a diehard fan of Dead Island (got all characters up to Lv. 50 on my 360), let me tell you a few things off the bat I don't like about definitive DI: - Joseph the caretaker from the church (black in original DI) is now white with a moustache - Korean brothers Cho and Kwan from warehouse (100% Asian in original DI) are now both white yet still speak in Korean accents - audio severely diminished in most Rage activation cases in definitive; original DI, every slice is heard and the Rage intro music (?) is much more dominant while you Rage - all vehicles of any colour in original DI (red, purple, etc) will be grey in definitive DI #LAME - jumping on top of vehicles (you're safe from all enemies in original DI while atop vehicle hoods) will not help you - run or die, bitch - Jessica (resort scene) somehow has the power in definitive DI to flip your vehicle around herself (obvious glitch not found in original DI) Gotta say, I think I prefer the original thus far. Mission givers don't list rewards when they give you a mission either. I dunno man the new graphics are nice but it just feels like a lazy conversion to Dying lights engine, just no passion or attention to detail and it sticks out when you see it. Homerun baseball bat got nerfed, still generally crashes when I try to use steam browser, and it overheats my video cards much worse. Stick with the original
Dead island defenitive edition is a downgrade. One of sam bs characteristics, being able to knock rams, thugs, and many more enemys to the ground is now neglegable, because of dying lights new engine. The dev mods are now useless as what they did right cant be done with the new physics, ie homerun baseball bat no longer flings any enemy away that isnt infected or walkers. We used to have colored trucks but they replaced most with grey ones, many objects have physics but dying lights engine wont let you interact or move them. Motion blur is horrendus and you cant turn it off. Sam b is still top tier but is not just no longer the best, he underperforms compared to other characters, due to his abilities that made him good no longer working against anything other than infected or walkers. Xp is rewarded in set amounts rather than scaling with level, and because many awesome weapons and skills dont work the way they did before zombies, especially early on and in the city, where you have many few oppertunities for decent weapons and ways to defend yourself without just spamming grenades, makes the zombies in some situations an unstoppable force. Sam bs gimmick was he could knock any enemy to the floor. But now i find my self in corners in the city swarmed with infected and walkers and taking bullshit damage with no way to knock them off or get out because of how badly he was nerfed
What?! WHAT THE FUCK?! I haven't played with Sam B yet. To know he could knock Thugs and Rams is amazing. But seriously. HE CAN'T DO IT IN THE D.E.?! What's wrong with the mind of whoever made this shit?!
Most dissapointing game EVER. Even on the game case it states '2 player co-op'-but that mode never was implemented. Worst graphics, mots anti-climactic after the trailer which had NOTHING to do with the game, dumb fetch missions, NO story, worst voice acting-glitches for everyone. Worst-game-ever. Never played ANYTHING even remotely created by that studio.

Funnily enough when I started the original yesterday, I immediately was killed by a beach ball. The physics weren't so great in the original 😂
You found the beach ball of death
I downloaded it last night and I did the exact same, you can't watch them disappear in the ocean now
The original if you ran Into it 5/10 times you'll die

Homerun baseball bat got nerfed, still generally crashes when I try to use steam browser, and it overheats my video cards much worse. Stick with the original
Wanna play together I have it on ps4?
I honestly would, but I play on PC. This gameplay here was all on PC using an Xbox Controller. Sorry dude :/
I enjoyed the game
Also I had game of the year edition
I really would love to have this song. I tried searching that SoundCloud account you posted. It's not on it anymore.
Found it. It's by TV Girl not Jeff Kaael
Original seemed harder both are great games graphics are awesome
Also
How is it possible that they are using Dying Light engine?
Did Deep Silver paid Techland to make this, er... Remake?
Most dissapointing game EVER. Even on the game case it states '2 player co-op'-but that mode never was implemented.
Worst graphics, mots anti-climactic after the trailer which had NOTHING to do with the game, dumb fetch missions, NO story, worst voice acting-glitches for everyone.
Worst-game-ever.
Never played ANYTHING even remotely created by that studio.
This is far from the worst game ever. Christ you're a drama queen, who hurt you?
You know they went and made Dying Light later, right?
I don't care what you say about the game it's a good game as hell
But that's your opinion
