David Gilmour is one of the best musicians in the world. I saw pink floyd in 1976, or 1977, I can't remember what year but I was in the front row. Saw zeppelin the same week also front row. One of the greatest week in my life.
He's hardly an unsung hero. Guitar player might only care about Gilmour, yes, but music fans in general love Richard Wright and understand his contribution. No member of Pink Floyd was unappreciated.

Waters and Nick Mason had that same chemistry when Roger Showed up for set the controls during nicks show. The chemistry between the four of them, is something we we'll never see or hear again.
I kind of wonder if that (the call and response piece at the end) was deliberate, not just to sound good, but also as a connection from music to lyrics, given the song's subject matter. It's no wonder Dave said he wouldn't be able to perform this song again after Richard's passing.
This song has always been important to David Gilmour, in fact it may be his favorite Pink Floyd song of all time. Because it truly was the transition of Pink Floyd from an experimental psycho rock band to the very serious mature sound that came after with Dark Side, Wish you were, Animals, and the Wall. This single song was that pivotal.

Just noodling around and accidentally break into an unplugged version of one of their greatest songs. Nice! Seems almost effortless on their part and best of all seems like they're having fun. :)
Pink Floyd looked like they had a ton of fun together in the latter years. Also Guy and David have always had kind an enthusiastic little bond as musicians in my opinion, always smiling, and Guy always seems to be having fun. Rick and David also have such a telepathic connection, it’ll never be replaced.. Love this so much.
@@justafanintexas7913 the cameras and soundboards were already set up because this is an excerpt from a session they did at abbey road. They actually did just break into the acoustic version of echoes, you can even hear at the beginning as the band weren’t entirely sure what they were doing.
It’s one thing to play this song And an entirely different thing to write it The true brilliance of Gilmour and any artist who can carve the peaks so triumphant and the valleys so deeply of their own hearts into ours.

I was so happy to find this video. Growing up, there was this, an album by Hendrix , the Police and SteelEyeSpan wedged in by the side of the radiogram. To my young ears, Meddle was my base for life, my reset point. Peace.

This reminds me of a day when i had a class about string theory and multiverses, and made me really inspired, contemplative. So i had to go to my room as soon as could to play Echoes out loud. The deep thinking about life, atoms, universe and everything else in which I was, is the perfect match to listen to it, as the song resembles such abstract themes with the ethereal sounds and fantastic lyrics.
During my formative years of the early 70's, the Echoes" album was very influential, the science-y, progressive nature really touched something deep and to hear this shortened 'jam' version brought back a cool flood of times spent with friends listening to this and the earth shattering discussions it sparked. Thanks!!!

i saw Floyd at Vanderbilt Stadium during the Animals concert,,,,,BLEW ME AWAY!!,,,,,,,,,tied up there with seeing Led Zepplin just before their tempo changed drastically before #3 came out,,,we were the first to hear it according to the announcer,,,they did LZ 1, then LZ2,,,then they floated down from the ceiling on a platform set up on sofas & such with the accoustic instruments,,,then they came out for the 4th set doing Elvis songs converted to Rock n Roll style,,,,BROUGHT DOWN THE HOUSE!! i get goose bumps just thinking about it!!! MERCY!!! later on we went to see Gilmore again,,,,the man just keeps on busting at the seams with natural musical wonders!!! i certainly hope he is a Christian so we can see him in the next life as well !!!

David Gilmour is amazing as a sort of diplomat. Got to see him solo concert in 1980's and he waved at a group of children with his smile. So calm compared to Waters. Wright really enjoyed this close to his last days.

I never saw Floyd, but caught Waters at Radio City Music hall in NY. Gilmour is one of the best guitarists in my lifetime, so far.
