    Thanks for building something interesting. I've had a half dozen in my life. Most I ever paid was $125 for a 2 door hardtop. Shows how old I am ! God bless and keep up the good work. Tom in Idaho.

    Awesome job man. I just picked up a 265 and powerglide from a 56 that had been overhauled and dropped in a 56. I’m putting it in my 55 Chevy 210 4 door.

    My dad talks about his 265cid 57 center post and his 283cid hard top 57 often. He had both of them at the same time and sold them when he went in the army in 64. He’s 79 now and will really like this video!! Subscribed!! Kelly

    265 c.i. engines were available from 1955 thru 1958, the valve covers would have staggered bolts thru '57, I believe they were made to be equal distance on top & bottom in '58, which made some believe them to be 283 c.i. The '59 heads you used would be even. I also think the oil filter location was changed on the block in '58, although not positive on that. Looks like you may also have a CA. car, or a west coast chassis, it'll have no welds on top or bottom, which reduces weight some 300 lbs! Nice body, looks like a good solid car, great job on your 265 installation!👍 57's forever!!

      I read were the one piece frame rails or California frame, we’re also built in Flint Michigan. SEDCO reportedly ordered their cars from Flint to create the Black Widow team cars. They were delivered to Nallely Chevrolet in Atlanta. I have a 150 Sedan and my information plate is located more in the middle of the firewall. The Sedan Utilities were used for the Black Widow cars and it seems the tag was located were this cars tag is. Love these cars. Good video

    Hella cool, I am a fan of the 283/327 over350 and 383 strokers.i know the 265 is what the 283 started as. My dream car is a 55 Belair and I want to put a 265 in one. You can't beat free on your motor either. I have a mid engine 69 chevy van 108 with a 96 lt1 I putin her in 2002 or 2003 but never runs right with points and I don't want to hei in my van so I bought a 65 283 that I'm going to swap in and take out her lt1 the 283 will run right with points but people think I should put my 03 5.3 LS motor and Trans in her that I'm putting in my 06 dodge magnum wagon with a dead hemi....nobody seems to want original anymore they all want to do LS swaps or electrify classics.......the latter is not something I want ever

    Performance wise, with the '59 ' Vette heads, you would notice very little difference between a 265 ci & a power pack 283ci. The 265ci is just as durable & nearly as powerful as the 283 ci engine. I saw a '55 Chevy wagon with a souped up 265ci run the quarter mile in 10 seconds, mostly on the rear wheels! The 265 ci is a great engine, don't under estimate it! In '57, Chevy down graded all 265's to 2 barrel carb, single exhaust, same carried over to '58. Some east coast '57's came with CA. style tubular frames because they had a fire in the frame shop that made east coast frames. CA . frames are perfectly interchangable, just lighter & said to be stronger. Good luck on your '57, you have made a great start!

    It was a common thing back in the day when 265s were overhauled to overbore to the 283 dimension....still plenty of good pistons around.It being free engine and the better heads, you'd have a great combination.Good work!

    1955 block has no oil filter provision ,1956 was first year for 265 in 2 barrel,4 barrel,and 2x4 version. In 1957 265 was 2 barrel only option, 283 was 2 barrel ,4 barrel ,2x4 barrel and 2different horsepower fuel injections 1957 was the last year of just front motor mount on engine blocks, 1958 was the first year for side motor mount blocks, casting number for 1957 blocks are 3731548, 1958 had a different casting number all v-8 heads between 1955 thru 1958 had staggered valve cover mounting, 1959 started the straight across valve cover bolt pattern, if you want to run hei distributors in a 1955 and 1956 block the round distributor boss must be notched for oil flow to lifters and distributors , to insure everything is right I usually change rear camshaft bearing to a 1957 also slight difference in width, this is not mandatory but if your there no big deal during rebuild, hope this helps on everyone’s rebuild

    In a 1957 Chevy you really should of
    Put a 283 because that was the original engine of that year....but you did a good job anyway...

    That's a really solid 57. Remember to move the radiator to the V8 position which was behind the radiator support or you may have overheating problems. Good luck with it.

    Tried to tell our oldest son to keep the 235 six in his 55 Chevy truck ! Already had headers and dulle exhaust ! Hope it up with the auto would be very unique ! He put a 383 stroker auto instead ! His truck ! ✊

      I did the same thing to my 55 truck also but the motor had a bad piston so don't fell
      to bad and I did get a lot of years out of it.

    Ahhh, chevy mouse motor. A zinc synthetic oil like Lucus, would help with the solid flat tappet cam. Nice rides u got sittin there. Cheers from B.C. Canada.

    That’s not a 265. 265s did not have provisions for an oil filter which is visible on the lift side rear of the engine. Most likely it’s a 283 although a 327 would look the same. Also the passenger side upper bolt on the front motor mount needs to be shorter or it will hit the fuel pump push rod and lock it up by changing it to a longer bolt is what you need to hold the push rod in place when replacing the fuel pump.

      @@CampbellsSoupedUp they weren’t spin on like you have. They were a canister that attached to the top of the motor and used a drop in element. It’s a 283 or an early 327.

      I had a 57 210 3 speed with a factory 265.
      Canister filters started in 56.

      I happen to have a 56 265 power pack engine sitting in storage. It has the oil filter in the same location as his.

    265, which came out in 1955 are getting harder to come by these days. You can find 283 much easier.
    283 with power pack heads came out in 1957 and started the fast car
    ERA for Chevrolet and never stopped"

    Wasn't the 57 the first to have a 283 ? 'Was it an option to have a 265 in 1957 and 1958 ' if so I was unaware of it.

      If you went for the base V8, you still got a 265. The 283 was a $550 option. Well worth it in my book.

      @@philbarrows2431 thanks for that info ' I'd be tempted to say that the reason I didnt know about that option was maybe because most people didnt go for the 265 'but a difference in price of $550 would have been something to carefully consider in those days.

    For future reference on that 265V8 it's the same as like a small journal 327 you don't like 65 so any gas get you will need a pretty welcome from 327 in the foreground gasket would be just a forebrow gasket or she'd have to have a parts man and knows a little bit about older car To know what you're talking about

    Why a 265? V8 in '57 was a 283. 265 was used in '55-6.

      You can't beat free! My first car was as '57 210 coupe. 283 2bbl.,3 speed. Cost a whole $400. Low mileage and no rust. This was way back in 1966.

      @@tedlawrence4189 My first car, also in 1966, was a 57 Bel Air convertible. 283, 2 barrel, Powerglide. Price was $100., and I was so happy about it I gave the guy $110., which pretty much ruined my first pay check. It was driveable, but pretty rough after a hard life. A body man told me, "She'll never be a lady." If I'd known then what I know now...

      The L99 200 hp V8, the base engine in Caprices in the 90s, at 4.3 litres, worked out to 265 cubic inches. Our 94 has plenty of power and is a fuel economy star. Terrible distributor, plug wires and water pump arrangement, though.

      Mine looked almost new. I lived in the rust belt. By 1966 most '57 vehicles were gone or very rusty. I was lucky that my dad bought it from a family who just moved from san diego. One year later my granny bought me a new 1967 chevelle deluxe coupe. Had a 2bbl.327 and 3 speed. Not a 396 ss but really nice for a kid just turned 18!
