Heads up, OEM manufacturing is a thing and Meze is hardly the first company use OEM manufacturing to produce a product, then take care of support/marketing/etc (which by the way, DO introduce additional overhead) themselves. I guess I should stop unboxing Corsair power supplies too? Corsair has never manufactured a power supply EVER, but they work with OEMs, make some design tweaks and market/sell the product. They have competitive pricing and great products/support. Who cares if they built it?
It really looks like you're on the right track. The Promedia 2.1s are excellent value speakers, and the Custom One Pros are treating Slick extremely well. Modmic is recommended, but only if you have a supported sound card. Try out the sound on your board and see if you still feel like you need a sound card.
The construction of these are very similar to the AudioTechnica AD700s. These style of headphones usually do not fit well on small heads. There are a few things you can do to make them fit more comfortably though. The simplest, a rubber band holding the "wings" together will make the ear cups less likely to ride down on your ears.
I love this design of headphone, I've got a pair of audio technica headphones that look almost identical, I've had them a year and they feel weightless on my head, the supports are amazing compared to a full band.
I love the wood grain, natural finishes are just so much more appealing to me though. but if the sound isn't there, I'll keep my money. when it comes to my tech, it's got to work first, look good second!
Anyone else super jealous of Linus' job? You just get to unbox really cool stuff and show it off. Any sort of technology you're interested in, you just shoot the company a message, they send you a free product. My dream.
The wood should give off a nice sound, also should refract ambient noise so it should give some sort of surround feel or a delay effect like being at a concert.
It's exactly what I ment to say. Actually, Coolermaster Quickfire has the same plate as the Filco Majestouch. It is manufactured in the same company, the case is a different one. Just their keyboards.
Linus trust me, The floating headphone/headband style is the only one I like to use anymore. After you wear them for long periods of time, you forget you're even wearing headphones. They take a lot of weight feeling off your head too
They're still not wooden cones (I doubt if I'm ever going to get that on headphones) and that sounds so much more awesome and unique! I haven't yet found speakers that produce more realistic sounds that my JVC SP-A10s
There are plenty of Gaming branded products that do actually make a difference to the user. Mice I think are the best example with more sensitive and accurate sensors, extra buttons and customization that you will never get from a standard mouse. A keyboard is one thing where it doesn't matter much at all, unless you're really dying to get a bunch of macro keys.
A gaming keyboard is an entirely reasonable proposition if you want re programmable macro keys, you don't get those on any other keyboard. Headsets have built in mics for easy travel use and often get on cup controls as well as seperate volumes for game sound and chat sound. Also not unimportant is the fact that gaming styled products are aesthetically very different and have a very different appeal. you can't just dismiss that out of hand because you personally don't want that.
Oh yes, I've seen you comment on some videos, just assume that I know as much as you do about sensors, at least I can check the ESR threads quickly. Not that I need it. Also I have never said that the WMO has the best sensor ever. I own 2 versions of the DA, 1 FK 1 EVO doesn't mean I'm gonna totally shit on Razer and Zowie. The WMO is cheap right, also hundreds of mices you can find on the market, but they won't be as good, they won't do the job as the WMO does. That was my point.
Meze uses an oem from eSmooth (Chinese company) then rebrand them as their own. Although other companies use oem's audiophiles hate them because they have claimed in the past on forums and stuff that they dont, and mark up the product over 100% for rebranded ear cups.
Oh i know the actual frequencies make a difference, i was talking about when people say A is better than B because it has 15Hz-25KHz rather than 20Hz-20KHz and that sort of thing.
I've to agree with you about the OEM part. But...isn't Corsair pricing same as Seasonic and being more expenive than alot brands out there , Enermax for example. But Corsair PSU does have a long period of Warranty.
Just because they look the same from the outside doesn´t necessarily mean they have same internals. A frequency response diagram of both headphones could give an answer to the question, but you can´t unless you work for Meze or ESmooth. So... do you work for Meze or ESmooth? do you? No? So how would you know?
I started with a Razor Deathadder when I was in my " gaming age ". I tried them all, from Steelseries to the newer Corsair models ( which are pretty damn nice ). Curently I am using my microsoft wheel mouse in black and I love it but I will probably buy a newer one for the next month. I guess, if you're happy with it, everythings fine. Just be more open to unknown brands or non gaming brands.
So are Fischer Audio FA-003ss, Brainwavz HM5, lindy pro monitor headphones and all the other versions. It's all made yoga. Doesn't stop it from becoming a good pair of headphones....
You need to use them with all music including and good mids/highs and make a another video about them. I am very interested in them. If you choose to do this you should also you onboard vs sound card. Thank you linus please take this into consideration!
Wood? That looks almost too gorgeous to be true, though I don't question it. A Macassar Ebony? You say that the wood structure effects the tone, and makes me wonder if you could apply the science of tonewoods to headphones also. Hell of a nice wood for headphones. :O
That headband is almost identical to the Audio Technica AD700s(and others), not only the design but how the pieces are actually shaped. Is Meze part of AT, or does AT OEM parts of their headphones?
All i know is that the sennheiser headset i have is WAY better than any headset i have ever tried. And i have tried them all. (not the newest ones ofc.) The Quality is great and the sound quality is just awesome.
Yeah I know, I own a ducky. And I think you're probably quoting that board that has a built in freakin touch screen, guess where the cost comes from? x3 Fact is that razer mice and boards are great quality and good functionality and you do end up paying a bit more for the branding. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. If you're not interested then you're not the target audience, they are doing just fine.
Talk to Huawei and try to get an Ascend P6 to unbox! Price seems too low for such a smartphone. I would love your opinions after using it for a while. It has a MicroSD card slot, too!
Love the wood earcups looks extremely good, however I don't like the headbands on the headset because I just don't like that frame looking design. I think a more solid headband like the sennheiser PC360 looks way better, now if that headset came in a wooden version I would buy it day one.
Is Meze sending these out to youtubers? I think its good for marketing because i always see their headphones reviewed in waves so it might make people interested when they keep seeing them. I just worry because youtubers seem to be nicer to these headphones then people who bought them. The reviews from customers are quite a bit harsher on them concerning their value sound and Meze's product support.
He didn't voice an opinion. He stated a fact. It was flagged as spam because what he said had nothing to do with the comment he was responding to. By that I'm not saying his comment was spam, but it makes sense why people marked it.
I would looking for great headphones w/ a good design. Those headphones make you look kind of derpy when wearing them. I have headphones with great specs and of course great sound quality, it's just they make me look really weird. Also, the ear cups are 90mm across, so it makes the whole headset weigh a ton.
I would like to see a review of the Audio Technica ad 700x. alot of people seem to thing they are better for gaming then any headphone marketed at gamers
I just bought these, and despite all the shit that has been going on, I'll have to defend them. These headphones definitely deliver - they are just what I was looking for, bassy, warm, harmonic - perfect for HipHop. Thanks for pointing me at them.
These are exactly what they look like; fashion headphones at a price point where you'll also receive some decent sound quality. Say what you will about beats, but for bass enthusiasts who just want to listen to their music and for some reason care about fashion in their headphones, they're great. This is a similar product, but without the commercial level that Beats involve, so you can expect higher fidelity sound, a much classier look and a better value for money. But if you want pure quality..
They look great but thumbs up for bchampion96 for just putting additional information for those interested in the whole story behind the company Meze. Some dont care some do. I care if a company claims to have designed and built something they absolutely did not.
The headband design is almost identical to the "floating wing" Audio-Technica uses on its AD series headphones. I'm guessing by the closed design and emphasis on aesthetics however that these cost twice as much and sound no better.
You know exactly what I mean and I know exactly what you mean. You can distinguish the selling term " Gaming " and the enhancing term " Gaming features ". We both know why you took the mouse for an example. Because it's the only thing that truely has changed over the years for gamers. Terms like gaming monitors, gaming Headsets, gaming Keyboards, all of this stuff is selling term " gaming ". How many people know the difference?
How do these compare to the Audio Technica ATH-M50s? I have a pair of M50s, but the long coiled cable get in the way when using with a phone. I'll admit it, I am sort of a bass head in the way that on PowerAmp Music Player on my phone I have 31Hz and 62Hz tuned all the way up along with the Bass knob all the way up. That being said, I also have the treble equally boosted and the mids boosted as well, but not quite as much. With those settings, how are these headphones? IDC about price up to $300
Fair enough, and I totally agree with that. Excepted when Linus' followers start to act like kids: "Oh we are disappointed, blabla". If anyone here got hurt because he "advertised" Meze, it doesn't make any sense, don't hate Linus for that, because there are tons of products he unboxed, reviewed, talked about that shouldn't even be on the market. Sigh.
Would be interessting to see frequency response diagrams of those two headphoes. Without that this whole discussion is pretty senseless. Difference in impedance and the range of frequency could point to different drivers/internal components, although it could just be an overpriced product.
I totally agree that he should tell us this information and research the products a bit more, it would increase the quality of his overviews/reviews substantially. But at the end of the day going in-depth researching a product for an 6min unboxing might be not worth his time.
Yea, and i wish i could afford a set of open ones like the dt880's for home and then a second pair of say dt770's for mobile and other use when i cant have leakage. Everyone says the sound is so much better, especially the bass. so what about the custom one pros?
Just for those interested... this is merely good for some music.... there is no other source of media ( movies, video games, even some music genres0) which profits the wooden structure ( disco speakers were wooden back in the days)
Go with the Beyerdynamic. Built Quality is amazing and the sound is unreachable in this price section. You got to be aware that some headphones need AMP's because they need more power. I dont know if they work good enough with soundcards. if not, save up the money and invest in a good amp-.
To be kinda fair... It didn't seem to me. that Linus was comfortable reviewing these headphones. He also seemed way less confident and much more insecure than normally. Though I do get your point, and agree with it.
Hey Linus, do an unboxing of the Superlux HD 681. Imho the best price to performance you can get with headphones, 30$ on amazon an they perform very well.
People complain about them because a sizable chunk of their cost is in the branding. Spend the same amount on an audiophile brand headphone, and you'll get a superior listening experience. I also personally think they look stupid, but I know most people disagree with me there. They aren't bad headphones, but they cost more than they should, so I can't recommend them.
it's good than, as there is no elecronics inside of them. Remember that almost all good speakers are made with wood cabinets. And even Yamaha uses wood in the elements too on some speakers. Other high end manufacturers swear to paper in their elements. You know what paper is made from?
The original razer naga is probably the cheapest 12+ button (or whatever it is) on the market And probably the best MMO mouse (one thats made specifically for MMO games)
Some of the best headphones on the market have the same frequency range as cheap crappy skullcandy headphones. The stat doesn't really tell you anything. The frequency graph can give a slight indication but you still can't hang your hat on it.
as a person who complains about them i don't like that people buy them just to be like "look how much money i have" and beats are not the greatest headphones out there but they're definitely good. Not worth the money though
can you even buy these from eSmooth? They seems to be the "ES-880EB" model, but I can't find anywhere to buy them, even on their "official" website, and google just give me a bunch of Chinese results. Everything point me to them just being an OEM who don't personally sell outside of China as they own the trademark over there.
If you're not being sarcastic, no they are not better. They are not worth their price unless you're wearing them around your neck the entire time like a lot of owners tend to. There are some headphones that are much less expensive that will get more balanced sound, without exaggerated bass.
I also have a pair of samsung galaxy s3 earphones and previously I had beats by dre tour earphones and I could see little to almost no difference and there is a £70 pound price difference so just goes to show, also my beats broke after 6 months and my s3 Earphones are still going from basically launch day of the s3....:D
Probably b/c there's a bit of a scandal concerning these. About how meze misrepresented them as unique design when they are in a sense rebranded esmooth. Though in the end, I feel sound quality is most important and most people don't discuss that portion enough.
Audio Technica esw11ltd I listened to them, and to my ear they are very good headphones and fantastic portable closed back headphones. Quite expensive.
I'm curious, what do you mean by a scam? Linus and Lew from Unboxtherapy were happy with the products. I can't see how there is a scam. Could you explain?
hey linus, i am an audiophile in training. What headphone/speaker setup do you recommend and do you recommend a sound card? i like gaming as well as music. i have klipsch promedia 2.1 speakers and I want to get some beyerdynamic custom one pro's with maybe a modmic or make my own modmic. I am getting an asus rog maximus vi formula, which i have heard has excellent sound. do i need a sound card? better headphone recommendation (i currently have akg k142 HD)
Ouch. Linus (or Slick) got flagged for spam on his own video, just for voicing his opinion, albeit with a little bit of irritability. Anyways, I was tempted about the Meze stuffs untill I heard all the ES stuff. Now I'm looking heavily into reviews of both. Hopefully I'll find that ES is just as good as Meze, because I don't want to spend $300 on anything if I can get the same quality for cheaper.
Heads up, OEM manufacturing is a thing and Meze is hardly the first company use OEM manufacturing to produce a product, then take care of support/marketing/etc (which by the way, DO introduce additional overhead) themselves.

I just got the Custom One Pro's and the mic made for them. It is expensive but the sound quality is pretty good and it is incredibly convenient.
Dude what do you think of the headphones now, sound quality etc?
I love the wood grain, natural finishes are just so much more appealing to me though. but if the sound isn't there, I'll keep my money. when it comes to my tech, it's got to work first, look good second!

Hey Linus, the video description has a typo I think.
" With a wood grain finish available in matte* or glossy,"
Changed matter to matte.

Wood is in my experience always a superior audio material. High end composites sound excellent as well. Great product.
the esmooth headphones use 50mm drivers. meze has actually switched out the drivers for higher-end stuff.
I've been looking at them for a while but I'm really not sure.-. I think I'll wait till I hear your opinion on them before I buy!
I dont know how much these cost or what their sound quality is but based purely on aesthetics these do look really awsome.
Oh yes, I've seen you comment on some videos, just assume that I know as much as you do about sensors, at least I can check the ESR threads quickly. Not that I need it. Please review the sound quality and whether they have become more comfortable over time.
Oh i know the actual frequencies make a difference, i was talking about when people say A is better than B because it has 15Hz-25KHz rather than 20Hz-20KHz and that sort of thing.
I wonder if Linus was able to fix the ISP throttling issue? I really want to see the wan show this Friday.
I've to agree with you about the OEM part.

Better frequency response, along with a lot more wider range of frequencies, more power going to it with the lower impedance.
Thank you for not having a ridiculously loud intro!
So are Fischer Audio FA-003ss, Brainwavz HM5, lindy pro monitor headphones and all the other versions. It's all made yoga. Doesn't stop it from becoming a good pair of headphones....
hey linus, those rubber bits that sit on the head are called "wings" audio technica popularized them.
In fairness "warm" is a commonly used word for headphones and does give audiophiles an idea of the type of sound to expect.
All i know is that the sennheiser headset i have is WAY better than any headset i have ever tried. And i have tried them all. (not the newest ones ofc.) The Quality is great and the sound quality is just awesome.

I like the videos before even watching them ahahaha :D Keep up the good work Linus!
It's part of Geek Week, a lot of people know
These are just re-branded esmooth products with an enormous markup. Go look in the forum and search on ebay/amazon for them.
Why are Linus'' video's so much quieter than everything else on RUclips? Do they just not have the microphones up very much?
He didn't voice an opinion. He stated a fact. It was flagged as spam because what he said had nothing to do with the comment he was responding to. By that I'm not saying his comment was spam, but it makes sense why people marked it.

They are, much better if you like the open backed style and design and want to but a mic on top.
I just bought these, and despite all the shit that has been going on, I'll have to defend them. These headphones definitely deliver - they are just what I was looking for, bassy, warm, harmonic - perfect for HipHop.

There's no link to email them. the email link is to email your friends about the headphones
They look great but thumbs up for bchampion96 for just putting additional information for those interested in the whole story behind the company Meze. Some dont care some do. I care if a company claims to have designed and built something they absolutely did not.
That setup is just like the AD700s, but they dont seem to spring back. Almost like they have a ratcheting system which is no good.
The headband design is almost identical to the "floating wing" Audio-Technica uses on its AD series headphones. I'm guessing by the closed design and emphasis on aesthetics however that these cost twice as much and sound no better.

You're not supposed to use them as armor bro, i've lost mine on the floor several times and the overall build quality from Sennheiser is insane.
Just for those interested... this is merely good for some music.... there is no other source of media ( movies, video games, even some music genres0) which profits the wooden structure ( disco speakers were wooden back in the days)
If you don't mind open backed headphones they will give you generally better sound quality overall. What is your max budget?
Paint on many older Sennheisers tend to crack if that's what he's refering to
Go with the Beyerdynamic. Built Quality is amazing and the sound is unreachable in this price section.
You got to be aware that some headphones need AMP's because they need more power. I dont know if they work good enough with soundcards.
if not, save up the money and invest in a good amp-.
The one reason I probably wouldn't get a woody is maintenance of the wood. I know audeze sends some stuff with their LCD 2's for the wood.
To be kinda fair... It didn't seem to me. that Linus was comfortable reviewing these headphones. He also seemed way less confident and much more insecure than normally. Though I do get your point, and agree with it.

Got my pair a few weeks ago.. didn't get the braided cable though ? Is that usually included with the Classic 88´s ?
Do you mean the hz range, make very little difference in most cases.
Where the hell do you buy the esmooth headphones from though? ive searched for them everywhere...
Hey linus are you going to review / unbox the new MSI gs70 Stealth ? I'm wanting too buy one of these ;D
can you even buy these from eSmooth?
Though in the end, I feel sound quality is most important and most people don't discuss that portion enough.
typo in the description. matter > matte

I listened to them, and to my ear they are very good headphones and fantastic portable closed back headphones. Quite expensive.
I'm curious, what do you mean by a scam? Linus and Lew from Unboxtherapy were happy with the products. I can't see how there is a scam. Could you explain?
Would like to see some Denon reviews! thinking about getting the AH D600, but are they good, comprered to the high price (in DK)?
Wow... I'm sorry. I didn't realize how ridiculous the mark up was. I wasn't expecting that lol
Would be awesome with some highend Denon reviews! :)
for everyday use, koss porta proos, @home hd 555
hey linus, i am an audiophile in training.
