A question: how did you find out the information about the requirements for the Latis to start appearing? I've been replaying this game for the past 2 weeks and the amount of lacking, incomplete and flat out incorrect information on websites like serebii is frustrating lol And like, none of the usual sites even mention that there is a slightly different encounter table if you have the full 3-GET or just 2-GET before starting the catch-mode...or that some hatch-pokemon are table exclusive etc... I've been at 199/201 the whole day and was trying to encounter the Latis by restarting the tables over and over entering catch-mode immediately, but if the 5 captures are required, that was a giant a waste of time XD
@@AdeptCharon We started to search how the rng work in this game one year ago on the pokemon speedrun discord, and we found all the informations we got by looking on the game code and by using TAS tools. You won't found any of this informations on usual sites, that's why we did it ourself. For the Lati@s, you'll find Latios on ruby and Latias on sapphire, but only if you have 100+ pokemons register in your dex and if your pokemon score is 5 or more during your game. You can find them in any zone, but you can increase their encounter rate from 1% to 2% if you beat rayquaza mini-game. You don't have to beat him each time you start a new table, just once and you're good on both field until you hard reset your console. Once you've done that, there is nothing more you can do except praise RNJesus. Btw, if you reset a table, the first pokemon you'll encounter (or hatch) is always something that can evolve. Don't think you need this information now but just in case :3
I didn't know there were actual, legitimate speedruns of this charming, little game that I spent a significant amount of playtime on in my childhood until I just searched for standard gameplay footage yesterday. It had been so long (i.e ~16-17 years) since I last played this and I decided to spontaneously play this on the gamecube via the gameboy player. Surprisingly, it didn't take me long to re-learn all the mechanics and the shake the table to move the pokeball to the other flipper technique but I wasn't aware of and don't know how to properly execute the clutch table-shake save that I noticed you do when the ball goes into the pikachu lane underneath the flippers; it is really impressive to watch! What's also impressive is your speedrun time for this marathon challenge of sorts. Congrats on reclaiming your WR time lately. I know this comment may seem long at this point but I just wanted to show my appreciation because seeing this ambitous speedrun last night kind of inspired me to finish the remaining 7 or so pokemon I had left to fill out the pokedex and so I did a "marathon" run of my own for a couple hours and now I only have Latias left and managed to get a personal new top score as well! I wouldn't have been able to find and catch the pokemon I had left missing if it weren't for the link that you provided in the description that did have some helpful stastical information for a non-speedrunner, but more importantly it exposed me to other guides that set me on the right path. So again, thank you for your hardwork and dedication to this game and I wish you the best in either maintaning your WR or improving it in the near future.
This game was a part of my later childhood. It was a gift from my siblings, and I still have it with me, in fact, I'm playing it rn. I like watching speedruns as a guide of sorts. Furthest I've ever gotten was Rayquaza, but never could capture it. Rip. Anyway, awesome vid :) gave me nostalgic flashbacks.
I actually remember the first and last Pokémon I caught in order to complete the Pokédex, when I got this game fifteen years ago. The first one was Magnemite, the last one was Latios. That one in particular took me ages to catch in this game.
Just realized that every time the sound disappears when you catch a Pokémon it’s you opening up the tracker going “now where the fuck was X Pokémon again?”😂
I wonder if you can get this and the first game on the switch through the nintendo store. I adore the first one and I didn't even know this one existed 😂
good shit, just read a bunch of your comments, have you guys a forum or a walkthrough up anywhere with that information? its hard af to find legit info on this amazing game.
Not really, we only shared informations we found on PSR discord, but nothing structured. There is my pastebin notes in the description but there are only infos about this speedrun.
With the knowledges we have about how to get the johto starters and aerodactyl, it would be """impossible""" because it seems like you can't find them if you don't have them register as "seen" in the dex, so you either use a cheat for that or share data with another game which has them caught. (we didn't found a way to get the card for the e-Reader you're suppose to use for them) Now if we consider a run starting with an empty dex except these 4 tag as "seen", they appear instead of Latias/Latios once you caught them, so it's basically like catching 4 more 2% encounter rate, probably 5 more hours with decent luck. If someone really considers doing it, I think we'll search a way to manip those encounters :3

@@Driekiann Hi! I just got again into this game and I was wondering if you got any new info about the Johto Starters and Aerodactyl. I searched on RUclips and just found a video of a guy catching a Totodile in his GBA, but no further information. Thanks in advance :)
@ We confirmed that they're easely obtainable with an E-reader and we got a good quality scan of the card to get them on the pkm pinball speedrun discord. As far as getting them without an E-reader or cheats, we still believe that's impossible. Maybe we will be able to do it one day using a glitch but I think that's the best we can expect now.
Exactly, I was trying to rng manip Latios, but I failed it in this run. Rng manip wasn't consistant at the time, but since we found an easier way to set it up.
i wanted to see tricks i could use so i clicked the video and i was about to evolve into a flygon but couldnt resist and had to try out shaking the screen to make the ball jump like you. ball lost and game over sob. i almost caught 100 pkmn. im playing the old game too but cant remember how many i have there.
Short answer, no. Long answer, technically yes but in the code you have to at least have seen them once to find them in the wild, but you can't see them without finding them so you need the e-reader or a cheat.
I think you mean 5:47:30, it's just because I caught treecko 2 minutes before but didn't check it on the list display so I did it later while catching a cascoon (I run with 2 list, one to count pokemon caught and one hidden with the areas and base pokemon you can found but sometimes I don't have enough time to check on both list during the animations)
Thanks for this video. The only Pokemon I haven’t been able to find is Kecleon and it’s doing my head in. Everything I’ve read online is that you find him in the plains, but I caught over 50 Pokémon in the plains and didn’t encounter him once. Then I heard you find him in Petalburg forest in Ruby, but haven’t had success either. Where do I find him and how many GET’s do I need? Cheers
Short answer it's in the forest. Long answer, Kecleon is the rare of the forest on either version, you just can't find it as your first encounter but you can double your odds to find it if you have the rayquaza flag on (meaning you have cleared the rayquaza minigame once since you turn on your console).
I was wondering if you could help me understand a thing or two: I am only missing Pichu on my game. Does it require 5 prior catches per session like Latias/Latios or can I just look for it from the start? It's been giving me a lot of trouble. Also, are you aware if Aerodactyl, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile are in this game? I've read that they're all bonus appearances. Some sources say only the Ruby table, others don't specify, and somewhere else stated the game required some kind of link cable event (similar to how Mew was handed out to Red/Blue) to have the opportunity to catch them.
For Pichu you need 5+ pokemon score on your current session just like Latias/Latios, then it's a 2% chance encounter in hatches or 1% chance if you beat rayquaza mini-game. If you did, just turn off/on your console and start a new game, then you'll be back to the 2% odds (don't continue a game, or you might get back to 1%). For Aerodactyl and the 3 johto starters, yes they are in the game, but from what we have found, you can't find them if you don't have them registered as "seen" in your pokedex. The only way to do it is by using an e-reader with a specific card (almost impossible to find now), an other version of the game which have them register in the dex and a cable-link to share the informations, or a cheat code. (If there is an other legit way to find them, we didn't found anything in the game code so far) Then if you have them seen in the dex, the next time you're suppose to find Latios or Latias, you'll find one of these 4 instead (someone found the function in the code doing it and I was able to test it myself). The rumor of "only the Ruby table" is false and come from the description of the starters in the game. That's why the catch 'em all runs only need the 201 pokemons, because these 4 can't be found in a legit way today, and I don't think will find anything new about them, but who knows.
@@Driekiann Thanks a lot, mate. Looks like I only have Pichu then. Weird about the 2% before Rayquaza thing. All of the faqs I have read are very outdated and copy each other's info. Even some of the standard Pokemon locations are off.

I'm watching at 2x speed and over several sittings, but this is super satisfying. Haven't played in forever and never completed the Pokedex.
