If you truly look at his impact go all the way back to the 50’s (Ronnie and the Redcaps) this man has been a part of music forever and will always be the benchmark of vocals and lyrics
Ronnie Dio was the lead singer. Vivian Campbell was the guitarist. Dio is the last name of the lead singer, and is essentially a solo artist on this album with 3 backing musicians. Campbell is Irish and was also a guitarist for Thin Lizzy. I think the other band (sound) you were trying to think of was Judas Priest
Dio-fronted Black Sabbath are the closest imo. Children of the Sea, Sign of the Southern Cross, Falling off the Edge of the World resemble this song in terms of structure. Or even Die Young. But the bass lines and guitar in Sabbath set them apart, of course. E: And you should do a Dio live performance at some point. Don't miss it.
I was lucky enough to meet Ronnie, Vivian and Vinnie after a show at Massey Hall in Toronto shortly after the release of this album. I honestly have to say, while they were all great! Ronnie was especially gracious to us. He went out of his way to find the rest of the band to sign autographs(which honestly I am not one who cares much about them..I am more about the memory)..But anyway it was awesome and they were awesome. The rest I will keep to myself....
Whether it's making wishes, smelling flowers or dreaming of women, not everything is what it appears to be. Everything in this world can lead down a rabbit hole of distractions and dead ends, finding one caught up in a life and world that one doesn't even want. All of this because what looked and sounded good from the outside i.e shiny objects from a distance, was a sort of mirage. Don't Talk To Strangers, breaks this spell, by being strikingly ironic, unmasking an illusion or deception by being incongruent to one's expectations. This 1983 song in the end really doesn't give you an answer but is more like the saying: "Losing an illusion makes you wiser than finding a truth." - Ludwig Borne.
The best Dio tune together with stand up and shout, holy diver, the Last in line, we rock, king of rock n' roll, sacred Heart, all the fools sailed away and this Is your Life.
Hey Chod thanks for making me fall back in love with Dio. watching you grin from ear to ear when he sings always reminds me of the first time I heard him.
I loved your reaction to this great song! You are definitely correct about Ronnie James Dio...he's a legendary singer that any informed listener will testify to his greatness!! There's a reason why this little man was such a huge voice is an iconic influence in metal! We shall never see his kind again. 🤟
Dio is so versatile he CAN slow it down. Two of those slow songs with Rainbow.... "Rainbow Eyes" and "Catch the Rainbow" are both very slow and beautiful/ mellow songs. Dio can do it all.
OK, time to get back to the Allman Brothers, either "Blue Sky" from Eat A Peach or "Hot Lanta" Live at the Fillmore East. Two totally different sounds only a year apart, that show their range and talent
During the early 80s, there seemed to be an ongoing friendly competition with Ozzy for who had the hottest guitarist. Probably since they were both doing similar styles, and both were fired from Black Sabbath
Can’t believe NOBODY has recommended “Shame on the Night” from the Holy Diver album…WTF?! That song resonates with anger and has killer guitar and drum solos. RJD is pissed off at everything and everyone - “and shame on YOU!” Gotta get a reaction for THAT one for sure. Then try - - Straight Through the Heart (“…hanging from the cobwebs in your mind it looks like a long, long way to fall…”) - We Rock! - I Speed at Night - Stand Up and Shout - “I” from the Dehumanizer album 1992 Black Sabbath
If you wanna hear Dio. "slowing it down" I'd suggest Over And Over, and Lonely Is The Word by Black Sabbath. He replaced Ozzy Osbourne for two albums, Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules, before going solo and Recording the Holy Diver album.
Now.. imagine being first year of high school.. having been listening to Top 40 on radio stations all your life.. then being introduced to Dio. Blew away pretty much everything from Top 40 ever. From there being introduced to Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, then eventually Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax. Top-shelf musicians, vocalists, and overall bands. Hard to go back to listening to mediocre bands or Top 40 radio after hearing these bands (and other bands in the same vein at a later date.) Other than adding King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Possessed, and Pantera to the above list.. I went darned near 20 years not listening to ANYTHING else besides individual songs here and there from other bands. It was not until about 2014 that I started to listen to other music.. mostly heavier/newer since these bands had really not put out much new music for 10+ years at that time. Once you have found these bands it is difficult to find new music that stacks up against it. Luckily we have site like RUclips to help us find new, great music. Prior to that you pretty much had to rely on friends or the occasional visit to a record store.
"Don't dream of women cause they'll only bring you doooooooooown" The lyric that always stuck to my brain and is more relevant today than ever. Thank you RJD
Do yourself a favor and listen to early Ronnie James Dio. React to Rainbow- Man on the Silver Mountain! A newer Dio track from year 2000 thats good and gets forgotten is a song called Fever Dreams
Ronnie James Dio sang with Black Sabbath and Rainbow.Dio is in a catagory all by myself 🤘R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio.We miss you.
If you truly look at his impact go all the way back to the 50’s (Ronnie and the Redcaps) this man has been a part of music forever and will always be the benchmark of vocals and lyrics

Saw him live in 85. Amazing in concert as well as studio.
I saw him when he was in ELF in 1972 along with Deep Purple. That was a good concert. Never forget it.

glad i was lucky enough to meet both ronnie n lemmy over 30 years several times
Hahaha, Love the scenario of getting pulled over by the cop as this song plays. Also enjoy your appreciation of 80s rock and Mr. Dio!
I wore this OUT when it came out, driving way too fast in a bucket thinking I was tough.
I wasn’t ;)
Hell of a song though. Thanks for taking me back.
AAAND the live version is even better.
The best Dio tune together with stand up and shout, holy diver, the Last in line, we rock, king of rock n' roll, sacred Heart, all the fools sailed away and this Is your Life.
Vinnie “went off” in these Dio albums....
Ronnie James Dio was doing opera style vocals on heavy metal songs. Gotta admire.
Hey Chod thanks for making me fall back in love with Dio. watching you grin from ear to ear when he sings always reminds me of the first time I heard him.
Master of metal... Dio
Got to see Dio live along with the Scorpions and Deep Purple at an outdoor venue.
I’ll never forget it!
Nice reaction! . Stand Up and Shout is a great song. You need to a live version of Dio. Last in line at the Spectrum is awesome.
Speaking of speed...someone should react to Dio's "I Speed At Night".
I loved your reaction to this great song! You are definitely correct about Ronnie James Dio...he's a legendary singer that any informed listener will testify to his greatness!! man, what a great album. I played the till the needle died.
Yes. I would replace my record players needle every few months.
That ENTIRE album was, IS and always shall be.....LEGENDARY.
All sweet and soft and then .... Boom!
Dio was so damn good live.
Dio - We Rock Live.
Dio is so versatile he CAN slow it down. Two of those slow songs with Rainbow.... "Rainbow Eyes" and "Catch the Rainbow" are both very slow and beautiful/ mellow songs. Dio can do it all.
Keep it real! Love the feeling in your reactions!
He definitely should have the live version. I think it’s in 1984 or something.
OK, time to get back to the Allman Brothers, either "Blue Sky" from Eat A Peach or "Hot Lanta" Live at the Fillmore East. Two totally different sounds only a year apart, that show their range and talent
Vinny Appice on the big toms!
One song I haven't seen reacted to yet by Duo when he is in Black Sabbath is the Mob Rules. From the Mob Rules album
Oh!!! You want speeding tickets??? Just listen to I Speed At Night off the Last In Line Album!!!
Live at the spectrum 1986 🔥🔥🔥
During the early 80s, there seemed to be an ongoing friendly competition with Ozzy for who had the hottest guitarist.
Probably since they were both doing similar styles, and both were fired from Black Sabbath
Ronnie James dio was the singer of rainbow, black sabbath and dio
And Elf. The first Rainbow album was basically Elf with Ritchie Blackmore replacing Steve Edwards on guitar.
Great reaction. More DIO pls.
Egypt (The Chains Are On)
All the Fools Sailed Away
Can't believe I was first to give this a like.
I seen him live when this album came out. His lazar light show was so freak -in cool.
Great song from a legend. Dio rules 🔥🤘🏻
Can’t believe NOBODY has recommended “Shame on the Night” from the Holy Diver album…WTF?! That song resonates with anger and has killer guitar and drum solos. RJD is pissed off at everything and everyone - “and shame on YOU!”
Gotta get a reaction for THAT one for sure.

Dio - Jesus, Mary And The Holy Ghost
If you think this is good.. check out his live version from 83 (or 84). He was even better live. Endless charisma.
The next Rainbow track, featuring RJD, that you need to listen to is 'Gates Of Babylon'
The next Dio track should be 'Rock And Roll Children'

Protect your soul!
Dio has very good and awesome slow songs, try The Temple of the King, its a beautiful semi acoustic gem when he was Rainbow's singer
"Invisible" off the same album...
Ronnie James Dio is the grandfather of heavy metal
You could check out Rob Rock, he also has a really powerful voice. Check out the song "Slayer of Souls" from the album Holy Hell
