My dad liked the show too since it involved spies-he was in Army Intelligence-liason w/British Intelligence during WW2. He'd let me stay up and watch it with him, provided I got up next day for school without any trouble. At the table, he'd talk about the show, maybe criticise or compliment it and once asked if I thought I could be a spy. I probably disappointed him and said no, but my dream was to be a teacher instead. At least, he appreciated my honesty. Later, we watch movies and programmes David was in and I told my dad I got to meet David and Robert, but David was my favourite. He said he already figured that and knew that David had been in the British Army.

Another of my favourite `60`s shows, I loved the theme music in all it`s versions. I collected all the bubblegum cards, had a badge & a cap-gun version of the pistol. I tended to feel sorry for Illya, as in the beginning all the ladies went for Napoleon. I enjoyed David McCallum in several of his later programs as well. Robert Vaughn, I also enjoyed in The Protectors. If you do not mind, I will add to my page. :)
Antony Zara I`m sorry to hear that. I struck lucky during the past year, a brand new complete set of the t.v. episodes only, for what I felt was a fair price. Considering, I know, I will be able to enjoy every episode of these, compared to finding programs I want to watch now. Can`t remember, but I think, I came across them on Amazon. One of my best purchases, IMO. :) Hope you are equally as lucky soon.

The next most notable, in the serious category, I would think, would be (Mission Impossible). Only David McCallum was a British star. Robert Vaughn was the American star the show was meant to be built around, but, they changed it later, as both stars were so popular. Robert Vaughn mentions in a clip, that much to their surprise, their postbags of fan-mail outdid that of the top male film star at the time. I believe, they mention, as many as 50 % of the U.S. audience was watching the show. I know, it was also very popular here, similar effect to Dr.Who, people making an extra effort to be sat in front of their t.v.`s, in time to watch. :)

To have a Russian hero in an American TV show was pretty progressive for the time. Although, as you say, I wasn't old enough at the time to fully appreciate it. And by the way, the Russian character Illya Kuryakin, turned out to be the most popular character!

One of the fun things about the show was the friendship between the two. I wouldn't want to see them as snarky rivals.

There was crappy shows back then too. Man from UNCLE was not one of them. We just forget about them. There are many quality shows now on TV you just have to pay to watch them on cable.
If they do a remake, don't make it into a movie. They should make a brand new tv show like what they did with Hawaii 5-0 and have mostly unknowns in the roles especially Ilya.

If they do a remake, don't make it into a movie. They should make a brand new tv show like what they did with Hawaii 5-0 and have mostly unknowns in the roles especially Ilya.
If so, I hope they do a better job. The "Hawaii 5-0" remake is excrement -- the members of the "team" are worse criminals than the ones they're usually chasing.
