  • One of my favourite pieces to record. Absolutely incredible, descriptive writing by the master of Cosmic Horror, H.P Lovecraft.
"From Beyond" is a short story by science fiction and horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft. It was written in 1920 and was first published in The Fantasy Fan in June 1934 (Vol. 1, No. 10). The story is told from the first person perspective of an unnamed narrator and details his experiences with a scientist named Crawford Tillinghast.

As amazing as always! Lovecraft is an absolute grandmaster of evocative writing, and this work is a good example of this.
Another interesting facet of this story is the mention of UV light. Horror writers like Poe and Lovecraft closely followed the scientific developments and used the newest scientific achievements in their stories to give them an air of credibility.

The Dreamlands has aomething for every aspect of his writings one has cherished, Im sure of it, have ye read that one yet? It would be a thing to take in, to be read out, more slower and steady, and it would be too long of a read to be done in minimum less than 4 sessions. [ im just guessing of course ] But I did manage to read the first one third or fourth of it out load before my mouth got VERY tired..I was reading it to my 12 year old while he played Bloodborne . Thats a game in which nearly everything is directly inspired by hp. lovecraft. and his initials are commemorated in a special oath rune , ' Milkweed'. And you can even become yourself, creature become a kin of the cosmos, complete with Arcane tentacles! Its so fun! uh.. what was I .. oh well anyway you become a Lumenwood. with a kos parasite 6 digit tentacled weapon, and even your tongue is also a thick huge tentacle. [ dont worry , no hentai stuff i promise. ] just gore. also.. you can asend into a great one yourself , to escape the beast transforming scorge all around you. good talk- byee❤

I came back to you after a short break, and I don't regret it. I'm enjoying listening to this in the dark- it's been a fantastically long time since I've read this story, and I've never heard it narrated before at all. This was powerful- thank you again for this experience. I can't wait to hear more stories.

I think Lovecraft is some sort of mutant that had more dmt in his brain then the rest of us, hence his dreams were very alien.

Great narration, but I never cared for HP, my dude sees science as some sort of gateway to madness, and its always the same, a person pursued more knowledge, *oh no brain hurt now.* When in reality knowledge has a demystifying effect on people, the Awesome and strange becomes mundane and familiar.
Take this as an example, this is how HP would describe a jet liner flying over head.
"A day like any other, I lay under the shade of an oak, hearing the wind as it danced passed the leaves, caring the subtle buzzing of bees, and chirping of birds. A melody so sweet and tranquil I felt myself falling to unconsciousness. However in that very instant, my peace was interrupted as a low rumbling began to over take the wind. Concerned I sat up straight and focused on it, first faint but as every moment passed, stronger and stronger it became, until silencing the very wind. My body began to resonate with this ungodly noise! My mind racing as the sense of something large and unfeeling approached, threatening to overtake the entire world and swallow me whole! At the noise's Crescendo, I had a keen sense that it was over my head. I looked up and sure enough, through the leaves of the oak I saw it, gleaming a silver white. Was it a creature? It had the shape of a bird of prey but it was the size of a great whale! It went on inexorably forward, yet it was unnaturally stiff, like a hawk diving for its prey, but wrong, for it was did not descend, it merely flew over head. As it passed the rumbling subsisted, leaving me alone with my thoughts, trembling with fear. The sounds of nature were now returning, as though nothing had happened. WHAT WAS THAT THING? I yelled, launching my self up to stand. WHAT MANNER OF POWER WAS THIS THAT COULD SILENCE NATURE AS THOUGH A KING SILENCING HIS COURTIERS!? I exclaimed. My mind could conjure no answer, no explanation. Have I truly seen it, heard it, felt it? Or was this merely madness showing its face to my soul?..."
