Hey, I know its been a while but, thats just how it goes with hobbies. Anyways, If cruza (I doubt he will but if potato too) make a response to this, then I will make a video comparing my list to theirs. I want to talk about this stuff so I do not mind in the slightest starting debates. All in good fun and love of the game of course. If not, thats cool too. I love FFTA2 and just wanted to output my thoughts on the topic. Have a comfy cozy day :)
About Scholar... You aren't restricted to strictly the robes. Those are just the most accessible pieces, besides maybe Ice Shield (which absorbs Ice, not resist btw). Other options for equipment include Diabolique (4th best Rapier), Zanmato (3rd best Katana), Reaper Robe (probably the best Robe defensively), Bone Plate, Gaia Gear, Minerva Bustier, Rubber Suit, Vajra, Thor Rod, Terre Rod, and Chill Rod. Besides the Rods and Vajra, the pieces aren't terrible either. ABSORB MP is what restores MP equivalent to how much the spell costed. REPLENISH MP is much less potent, but restores from both Physical and Magickal attacks. So Absorb MP is restoring 14/28 MP per Scholar spell - much better than the 5 MP you proposed. I wouldn't say he's the top since he has to plan beforehand and Arcanist has the superior Lv? Shadowflare and Lv3 Dark, but Scholar is definitely better than Soldier or Moogle BM. Also, Chocobo Rush is an infinite range attack in one line from the Animist. Mainly useful in extremely wide/long maps, which don't appear often iirc.
I mean yes. You can wear more than robes you're right. I did undervalue other equipment that allows for absorption and even nullification. Also funny multiple people getting ice shield wrong. I use it so little I swear I thought it was resist. But I still stand by what I said that if you use this strategy, you are forced to use suboptimal equipment and play specifically around that strategy. Luckily we have what, 24 clan slots? so you can just have a team of 6 that is for scholar build but still i think my point stands. As for absorb MP, that is my bad for completely missing it. Obviously, I dont use scholar much and so even though I know replenish mp exists, there are things that still go under my radar. And so I will talk about it now. Only viera, humes and nu mou can learn absorb mp. While that is good because those are all races with lots of magick, you have access to even less equipment to make that work and the other races just don't get to do that strategy. Which stinks because arguably those other races need it more. My point, still, is that you are purposely using "not the best" equipment for a cheese strat. With that said, this also means that i ripped into cruza while also being wrong lmao. Again, my bad. However, you do make valid points for the job. And in the video you even see me first place it in a higher tier lol. Its just the fact that you need to sacrifice so much for it, or else you just are damaging yourself, that made me place it where it is. I explained the criteria for the tier and i think that tier fits scholar well. I still thank you for your input. Man, im gonna have to redo my video and put animist in S tier. chocobo rush is broken (jokes)
@@KizzyJay I think you're over emphasizing the amount of downside compared to the amount of upside. The equipment is not THAT bad, it's not like you're losing 70+ points in stats for using it. I believe Cruza said that Robes are the best armor class in the game and I'm inclined to agree - enemies like to surround teammates, and you can just not care and blast them with magic while healing your ally in the process, which saves turns. It also helps that certain enemies like Bombs and Drakes can't use their abilities on you if you have them equipped. I think it's a legitimate strategy rather than a cheese strategy like using two Smile Tossers to get infinite MP. Also, I recommend timestamps, this is a long tier list lol
@@hv433 Okay lets make a truce. If I can't overemphasize the loss in freedom that shoehorning yourself into scholar cheese does to you, you can't overemphasize robes as being way better than the other armors. If enemies are surrounding you, that usually is because they are physically attacking you, in which heavy or light armor would be better (heavy for raw defense, light armor for evasion tank with ninja garb). But that's just a whatever burger imo. Also the downgrade in equipment is bad enough. You are still losing a noticeable amount of stats, especially if you aren't using the best weapons of the job. (Zanmato, for example, is the 3rd best but you lose so much offence for not using hyakushiki-masamune or speed+evasion for not using ragetsu-denbu) As for healing, it isn't that good anyways. I mean you are looking at a fraction of what you can get out of summoner or blue mage. From what I've seen, it "keeps you alive" about as well as a white mage would --that is to say it will heal damage that is inconsequential to winning. I mean you could max magick a Nu Mou, but at that point why even bother with scholar lmao. As I stated a few times, late game tends to be one shot wonderland unless you are purposely choosing to use more challenging jobs. The turns saved by using scholar tends to be about the same, if not worse than just using an illusionist. That of which has a much wider array of element types and deals more damage for the relatively same mp cost. Thats another thing, after all of this scholar still takes 2 turns to fire off magick with halve mp anyway. As for the 'bombs and drakes' argument, that's kind of nothing to me (no offense) when it comes to evaluating scholar as a job. Its like me evaluating red mage as a good job because it has lots of weapons that deal different elemental type damage. Besides, other reaction abilities can straight up negate the elemental damage bombs or drakes will throw at you anyway. Yes this scholar strat is cheese and saying its not is very telling. I will admit double quicken is cheese too, which is partly why I brought time mage down a tier in the end. (See the end of the video and description) Time stamps in the description, I fixed them. :)
