You guys saying it is a blood grove and the purpose is to prevent suction or to bleed out is ENTIRELY WRONG. It is called a Fuller. Its purpose is to give the blade strength and lightness. Wiki it. Fuller (weapon)
+Monel Funkawitz Straight from Wikipedia - A fuller is a tool used in the trade of blacksmithing to produce a rounded or beveled groove or slot in the flat side of a blade (e.g. a sword, knife, or bayonet), and it also refers to the grooves made by these tools. These grooves are often called "blood grooves" or "blood gutters" as well as fullers, although their purpose has nothing to do with blood. A fuller is often used to lighten the blade, much the way that the shape of an I-beam allows a given amount of strength to be achieved with less material. When combined with proper distal tapers, heat treatment and blade tempering, a fullered blade can be 20% to 35% lighter than a non-fullered blade without any sacrifice of strength or blade integrity. This effect lessens as the blade is reduced in length. While this groove is often called a "fuller" by sword enthusiasts, it is the tool used to make the groove which is actually a fuller and the blade is said to be "fullered" after introduction of the groove.
Thanks for the clarification there is a lot of "Rambo" mis-information and people think the Ka-bars do the same thing and have a "blood groove" which is immensely wrong. People just think it sounds cool!!!
so the m9 bayonet from Ontario isn't a full tang? I was interested on purchasing this knife and if its not full tang, wouldn't it be easier to break in use?
do you know if there is a adapter piece or a bayonet for the civilian M4 rifle with a 16 inch barrow?the military will not fit 2 inch to short on the hope or hole that goes on the flash hider
@crosshairjunky yes and no , the "new rifle" replacing the 47 and soon replacing the 74 pattern is the AK 200 looks almost exactly the same, allows for more accessories and has lower recoil due to a new dual directional gas system the Russian requirements are for a quad stacked 60 round mag as an option for the 5.45mm rifle ( Hence why Surefire came out with their AR quad stacks for Govt use ) the Nikonov was to be the "new Rus. rifle" but the AK 200 line beat it in price/simplicity
Not even on swords. Some spears had odd blades to allow the target to bleed out while impaled but that's about it. Oh and pipe-knives are designed with this in mind.
No its not. Tons of people say that. If it were a sword or dagger, then maybe it would be a blood groove. But its not. Its to reduce weight, the same on ka-bars.
So there are big superhero guys out there that think the knife is weak. Pretty sure the military tested it being that they are military knives and if you break one I'm sure you went under an Abrams tank with it.
@KapteinFruit no shit just got one from a buddie did the r/d on this thing and was like naw it cant fit the m9 anyway man this fit the .223/.556x45 m4 fram wit pic battle rail just sayin lol
i have the m9 bayonet and i cant sharpen the piece of shit for anything. i dont know if its me or the knife but i can put a razor sharp edge on all of my other knives but everytime i take a stone to this knife it doesnt improve at all.
I have a Buck version of this. It has a sharpening stone in the sheath and the whole set up is pretty heavy. More like a survival knife than a bayonet, would rather have something more lighter and dagger-ish on my rifle (or belt). Good to see how the handle holds together, always wondered but never game to disassemble.
@GunWebsights- (CNN) Reports -- The Russian army has ceased ordering the famed Kalashnikov rifle for its arsenal and is waiting on a newer model its manufacturer is developing. The army already has more of the weapons than it requires, Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia Nikolai Makarov told Russian media.
I haven't read if anyone else pointed it out. but the "cut out there to lighten it up a little bit" isn't that at all. Its a blood groove. It is there so that when you stab your enemy the blade will not cause suction and get stuck. Same purpose as dimples on a cheese knife.
@KapteinFruit they do have pistol bayonets :l there pretty nifty like (runs out of AR ammo, pistol ammo charge dude with pistol bayonet and stabs the shit out of him)
im thinking of buying a "cheap" bayonet from armory replicas on amazon..should i? cus i realy need one that is not too expencive but still does a good job at both chopping humans and trees into pieces...
well it is a heavy blade so im guessing it could chop if sharp? i mean i have chopped wood with reneissance swords that are meant for stabbing through the gaps in armor,, i mean just cus something is meant for one purpose it does not mean it is limited to a single purpose..
+psykopanda11 Allright man, no you are right, it's just that you stated what purpose you needed a knife for which was chopping. I agree bayonets have the aesthetics and grim look, but it's like you wanted to haul bags of cement in a Ferrari when what you need is a lorry. Shure it can be done;-) Ok listen why don't you go for a bowie style knife or maybe a good kukuri that actually fills out all your needs; can chop, looks mean and actually have some fighting heritage. You'll be such a sorry ass freezing your balls/boobs off hacking toothpicks out of a dry branch knee deep in snow hypothermia setting in. Damn why don't you gnaw down a tree!? It can be done...
Very poor design, to make on the cheap. Bayonets should be full tanged and able to be attached to your weapon quickly and smoothly. Good examples: Most Mauser bayonets. I have been looking for a bayonet for my M590, but have read too many bad reviews about all M9s.
So you showed what cheap Chinese copy of m9 bayonet looks like inside. What about the real m9? Can it even be disassembled like China clone? BTW China clone of m9 weakness is in the plastic handle. Replace plastic handle with steel pipe and it will be quite strong.

It's worth noting that the flat screwdriver head on the sheath fits perfectly into the takedown screw on the knife. No additional tools needed.

@steve03260
I am pretty hard core.. blades know their place
but seriously, can you tell me where to get the rear part that connects to the lug?
Are there any m9's that are full tang and not that removable post?
@danthman114
LOL, I'm no manufacturer, but I can see how that would be a cool way to mount a light
What is that piece called that protects your hand against the knife? Simple but neat video!
Have you called ontario to try and order the part you need?
so the m9 bayonet from Ontario isn't a full tang? I was interested on purchasing this knife and if its not full tang, wouldn't it be easier to break in use?
@Madxmac771
that is what it is on swords.. but read the history of this and you'll see it was only there to drop weight
do you know if there is a adapter piece or a bayonet for the civilian M4 rifle with a 16 inch barrow?the military will not fit 2 inch to short on the hope or hole that goes on the flash hider
Good video and on the money! Keep up the good work!
@enscribe
duh, that would be a good idea.. but no I haven't tried that yet, thanks
I am a survivalist and this is great for hardcore bush survival many would argue but this is defiantly a blade that won't let you down!
Agreed
Pretty kewl breakdown! Never knew about that before!
i thing the only down side in that bayonet is not a full tonged handle , the liner in the right side up of the blade is perfect define the bayonet
What brand is the fake one? i want a cheap m9
@danthman114
that is a great idea IMO
@crosshairjunky yes and no , the "new rifle" replacing the 47 and soon replacing the 74 pattern is the AK 200

Great video thank you!
When I saw the title to the video, I thought for sure you were going to show us an Italian pistol with a huge pointing thing on the front.
I was imagining a Beretta M9 with a bayonet and I just couldn't think of why you would want a Beretta M9 with a bayonet. :P
Just figured out that the screwdriver on the end of the scabbard is for removing the butt screw in the handle for field stripping... very cool.
@crosshairjunky
LOL, only dropped once
Not even on swords. Some spears had odd blades to allow the target to bleed out while impaled but that's about it. Oh and pipe-knives are designed with this in mind.
Cool. I'm trying to modify a m7 gaurd for my faux silencer. This helps.
i would want to flip the barrel band/hlit and the locking point around bevause blade up bayonets are better for actual stabbing and cutting
i cant get the stick part of the knife to take out the rings -_-
No its not. Tons of people say that. If it were a sword or dagger, then maybe it would be a blood groove. But its not. Its to reduce weight, the same on ka-bars.
Yes, a fuller
So there are big superhero guys out there that think the knife is weak. Pretty sure the military tested it being that they are military knives and if you break one I'm sure you went under an Abrams tank with it.
Very informative thank you
Good video.
@mnieto311
no brand, no markings.. I can only assume China made
CNN Reports the Russian army will no longer be ordering AK47's and variants. A new rifle has been found to replace the iconic AK.
it's also been said that the so called blood groove is to strengthen the backbone of the blade. like an I beam is.
It's a fuller.
@barney1515ful
Yea, I have one, just need a 16 w/ carbine gas system (M4) to use it on
I need an original Buck blade for my M-9. I have the part you need. Even trade.
@KapteinFruit no shit just got one from a buddie did the r/d on this thing and was like naw it cant fit the m9 anyway man this fit the .223/.556x45 m4 fram wit pic battle rail just sayin lol
★★★★★
Cool Bayonets!
that cut out a you call it..is really a blood groove...
It's a fuller
a channel suggestion: allow for more time to read the quotes at the end.
i have the m9 bayonet and i cant sharpen the piece of shit for anything. i dont know if its me or the knife but i can put a razor sharp edge on all of my other knives but everytime i take a stone to this knife it doesnt improve at all.
I will trade you my lighter Ontario M-9 for that Buck straight accross.
I have a nice Russian one, the previous owner no no longer needed it..

uhhh... no
Wt the hell is happening with the tang
Two piece blade?"!!
Was it made in China or Mexico?
@KapteinFruit they do have pistol bayonets :l there pretty nifty like (runs out of AR ammo, pistol ammo charge dude with pistol bayonet and stabs the shit out of him)
Việt Nam. tính mua loại logo fake made thailan ( real china). xịn mà ko fulltang nếu china thì k bít sao
@MrBfd0412
lol
im thinking of buying a "cheap" bayonet from armory replicas on amazon..should i? cus i realy need one that is not too expencive but still does a good job at both chopping humans and trees into pieces...
+psykopanda11 Well then you're looking at completely the wrong blade design, bayonets are for stabbing not chopping.
well it is a heavy blade so im guessing it could chop if sharp? i mean i have chopped wood with reneissance swords that are meant for stabbing through the gaps in armor,, i mean just cus something is meant for one purpose it does not mean it is limited to a single purpose..
and i want something that is a realy scary looking tactical knife that can serv me as both woodsman,survivor,prepper and warrior :)
i added the ontario bayonet for 89 bucks and a neckknife tanto knife for 20 bucks and a karambit neckknife for 9.99 for on amazon think that will do?
+psykopanda11 Allright man, no you are right, it's just that you stated what purpose you needed a knife for which was chopping. so the era
Definitely not as strong as a full tang blade.

i thought that hole is the improved blood groove???

Hey I tried.
I can't imagine a weaker design.
