I need a more detailed set up that uses the internet outside the house>> going through the router base station.. port forwarding to the other macbook>?? any tips?>
Unfortunately "Screen Sharing" doesn't support audio. There could be other screen sharing solutions which support audio but I'm not familiar with them.
Components/files storage pass thru was the plan. May still be ,can't see wasting the 500GB storage for a 2nd monitor only choice, instead. Found a quick easy dirty way get it up and running fast if audio or if I could even share audio or not you ask/?IDK. Here's how they explained setup of the other one you left out already magically setup for you, and the one setup of the machine I prefer called the slave you showed and of coarse the master you left out or vise versa.. cpu 1 do that cpu 2 do this. Or you get connection failed.. even hardwired together.
I found someone instructions mentioning I need an apple tv and here is his following instructions. what is the difference between his instructions and your? Can his instruction be using the 2nd mac as an "extended" instead of mirroring? 1) You need an AppleTV 2) Search for Screen Sharing on your old Mac which you want to use as the extended display (Screen Sharing Version 1.7. And launch it 3) Go not your newer iMac and select "Displays" from Systems Preference. At the bottom select your AppleTV from your Air Display menu and tick "Show mirroring option in the menu bar when available) 4) Go back to your old Mac and from the Screen Sharing software option click on the option with the arrows pointing out under Scaling (it's on the left) and on the drop down menu from Displays select (Display 2: 1680 x 1050). You might need to point the mouse to the top to the old Mac's screen for the Screen Sharing software options to re-appear as they disappear after a while.
No. They can use different Apple IDs. Apple used to have a "Back to my Mac" feature that I think required using the same IDs. They have since discontinued that feature.
Rick, Would this be a way to record from VHS? Or the video you made using that HDMI to USB cable in your other video? I would be using my 2015 MacBook Pro. I already have an older Hauppauge external capture device (which I have never used yet). Any suggestions would be appreciated. My Autistic son wants to move his very large (100+ tapes) VHS animation cartoons library (some he recorded from tv and some are the original) to a hard drive and put either on blue ray (we have that recorder also) or on a Local home NAS I would put together. Anyway, Thanks for all the great videos and information you have shared with us!
I did a video a little over a year ago with some options for capturing composite video. ruclips.net/video/tsgD3x1N2KI/видео.html I recently did a video on a using a cheap HDMI adapter on a Mac: ruclips.net/video/59NzvkvpZj4/видео.html That could work to record a VCR when combined with the Musoc Composite to HDMI Adapter: amzn.to/2Yd6XkA I haven't tried that yet. If you have Windows, this adapter wasn't the best but it worked and it was cheap: Digitnow Composite to USB Adapter: amzn.to/2UalHlj (Amazon affiliate) It didn't work great on the Mac. The audio would get out of sync.
Does the remote Mac you are connecting to have more than one monitor? When you are connected to it with Screen Sharing, there is a "Displays" option at the top right of the window. With it you can choose the screen you want to see, or both screens. If that is not what you are asking, let me know.
So I'm glad you have set this up on the other machine :50... Pre this video?. So if my other machine is magically set up already this will work . Good to know.
Are you wanting to record the screen? You can do that with QuickTime Player. You choose "New Screen Recording" from the File menu. Make sure you specify if you want the whole screen or a portion. You also need to select your microphone input.
So frustrating.... I tried all 3 ways about six times each and it's not working. Is there something that I am missing? I am using a new mac mini trying to control my iMac screen, both on Catalina 10.15.6
I did the same . This has one machines setup as the same machine(s) setup, as the other machine he has already setup which you're not getting the other machine setup whether it be either master or slave or vice versa. It works on the vid because he even says "The other machine he has, is already setup". So unless your other machine is set up already. You could do it 10x and get the obvious results.
In the Finder, go to the "Go" menu. Choose "Go to Folder...". Enter "/System/Library/CoreServices/Applications". That should get you to the screen sharing app.
Brilliant!
This was precisely what I was looking for! Thank you!

what if the computer you're trying to remote into is in sleep mode, can I still get in using screen share?
Great thanks for sharing, anyway to share audio as well?

does this work with different countries..? and what about internet connection (mac1 to be connected) can i use mac1 internet on mac2..?
How to turn off audio for both the devices connected with screen sharing?
Any workaround to get audio through as well?
Not using this method. I don't know if there is some other screen sharing technique that supports audio.
Audio please from the remote mac.
yeah i need audio too for editing video
Excellent advice
Both macs must be connected to the same apple ID for this to work?
No. They can use different Apple IDs. Apple used to have a "Back to my Mac" feature that I think required using the same IDs. They have since discontinued that feature.

I posted a video this evening on importing composite video into a Mac: ruclips.net/video/FKMqc1n_awU/видео.html
Good explanation. Thank you
You are welcome!
there is a war to use extended display instead of mirror?

while you are screen sharing, can you use the mac that is having its screen shared?
Yes. You can use the Mac on the same account or a different account from the person remotely accessing it.
@@Rickmakes is there away you can lock a specific application on one screen and work on the other screen?

Have you tried using the IP address of the remove computer instead of the name? You can find it on System Preferences > Network.
@@Rickmakes I did not try using the IP address. That you I will give that a try :)

Thank you for making these very informative videos! You can delete my other long comment if you wish.
Thank you! No need to delete the other comment.
Doesn't work.
