Plus they have great resale value, so if I ever want to upgrade early it’s basically 50-70% off a new one if I sell the old one.

The liquid advice was one I should've listened to years ago. My 2018 Macbook Air was actually a pretty solid machine but I spilt lemonade on the computer and that was the downfall of that Macbook
@@hellhog405 I did heard news about it, but I already bought insurance so I have more opportunities to swing it around. If you buy mac, just buy insurance (it worth it). If you don't have money, get chromebook instead of midrange to save money (but you have to accept slowness until you got money for the mac). But it only my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.
I still have my macbook pro mid 2009, I used to work on it a lot, now I use it occasionally. It has never broken down. I have only replaced the battery, thermal paste and cleaned it of dust. And of course I replaced the drive with an SSD some time ago.
Good advice about keeping your machine safe. I've been doing the same for over 30 years and never had a mishap. Now that Microsoft has brought out a buggy Windows 11 with crazy installation requirements - none of our 5 machines can be upgraded and instead of replacing them all, we're going to keep them on Windows 10 as long as possible. As I go into retirement I'm now looking to get to an Apple for the first time - Macbook Pro M1 14". I saw a recent video how the Apple RISC performance has now outstripped Intel's CISC architecture - and significantly undercuts the power requirement which kills Wintel laptops. All the best, Rob in Switzerland
I think the choice to have a fan also is important as well, less moving parts means less points of failure. I will have a Dell Mini 9 that works great because there are no internal moving parts. Getting replacement parts right now is starting to become painful.
I have been using that exact same case since college too! I bought it for my 2013 MBPro which I’ve used for 7 years without a scratch. Then I sold it to someone and I know that he’s still using it to this day. Great video btw.
9:34 - "Consider opening up the back chassis every 12 to 18 months to check and remove dust". I'm fairly sure doing this will void both the warranty and AppleCare+. A better solution is to invest in an in-room HEPA air filter. They run $100 USD or so and won't void your warranty.
That definitely will not void the warranty or AppleCare. You know what ISN'T covered by warranty and (unless you pay a hefty out of warranty fee) AppleCare+? A failed fan or fried CPU due to build-up of dust. You can't have a HEPA filter in every room you use a laptop in.
MY first gen iPad retina still works.. Currently use 1st gen iPad pro for backup and 4th gen pro for daily art work.. I just recently had to replace my 10 year old Mac Pro 16 because I dropped it and screen died.. I'm able to still use it with a monitor though.. I stole the Mac air 15 at Best Buy just a few days ago for $849 U.S. ... MY 2 pcs and Samsung tabletst all crapped out after 3-4 years...
Still have my white 2010 MacBook alive. Pretty much squeezed all the life out of it. Changed the hard drive twice, the battery, and speced up the RAM. Used Linux on it at one time before discovering you could patch Catalina to run on old Macs.
Excellent video man. 2 things 1. It is said in various forums that a hard shell case for MacBooks is inadvisable since it can add some extra weight on the lid of the laptop and potentially make the hinge loose in years. Do you advocate the same? 2. Would love to see a video on how to clean the unnecessary heap of files in MacOS without additional software as you mentioned.
Wouldn't advise using one. I used one on my MB Air from day 1 and after a year the screen started to glitch occasionally, after 2 years, it started to flicker or completely bouncing. I cannot help but think that damn case had something to do with the screen going faulty, specially because I could notice the lid shut a lot faster because of the extra weight. Oh, and of course, the bottom part of the case, made the laptop heat a lot faster, despite the 'vents' it had.
Thank you- as someone whose had decreasing longevity and performance with Apple products over the years, and am not tech savvy, your video and information is much appreciated. Thx!
Great tips! I just picked up an M1 MacBook as my portable device (I have a custom built PC for any intensive tasks like video editing) and I am hoping to make it last a very long time! So far, it seems to be great machine!
Listening to your advice, I must have made the right decision because I bought an imac pro with a lot of power, so now I can play popular games through windows and use the same computer in mac os for many years.
I had my 15in MPB for 7 years and just recently upgraded to M1 Pro 16in. I've spilled sweet tea once and hen a bunch of water 5 years later on the mac and it's still working. Just had to give it to apple store for a good clean. I had a top + bottom cover and keyboard/trackpad stickers for scratch protection. I've used my mac in every temperature possible and it is still running super-good. I just upgraded for the M1 performance honestly
A general tip: Please don't use wet wipes (tissues) to clean your macbook body. It brings pitting on the body and the sweat does make colour diminishing. Stay safe!
Man your videos are really well done! Can you do a video on removing the OS and then putting everything back on to improve speeds and function? I just bought a 1TB SSD but don’t know how to do it.

I bought a 14 inch Macbook Pro M1 yesturday, after my 2014 pro died. Your video's are proving really helpful already, (since i'm not a computer head). Thank you 👍
In addition to buying enough RAM for YOUR needs and a 10 Gigabit Ethernet port, the most important way to prolong the life of your new non-upgradeable Mac is to prolong the life of your minimum size SSD. Buy an external SSD and use it for storage from Day 1. 2TB Sabrent if you're a content creator who needs speed and space, otherwise any SSD. Keep it permanently plugged in and put MacOS on it as well !! The end of the SSD, is the end of your fast Mac. This is a cost effective way to do it too.
In my country there are multiple third-party providers that offer soldered ssd upgrade for M1/M2 macbooks for only a fraction of price. I'm gonna go with it for my M2 macbook pro base model after warranty expires.
Very nice guide, but I would disagree that you should spend money to make the device last longer. I'd rather just upgrade earlier - a base MacBook Air, over the course of 6 years, is cheaper than a MacBook Pro with 512GB and 16GB of RAM over the course of 10 years!
Exactly, I bought a base macbook air because the upgrade to 16gb would have been 500€ extra, not worth it. I am a light user these days, so no need for more at the moment. Super happy with my choice
@@AnunayMintoo I was tempted but Air is too small for me. I'd happily buy a 15 inch one if they made it.And also I'm worried about the longevity. Some M1 devices are already showing the flexgate problem.
I think when Apple comes out with the new redesigned M1X MacBooks, those things could potentially last for 5-7 years if you take care of it. It could even last longer if they keep battery replacement prices the same.
They will last 10-15 years with what I've seen. My brother had a MacBook air from 2013 and I've had it since around 2020. Everything was working find except for obviously the battery was degrading a little. I then bought the M1 Macbook Pro when it released and I strongly think this will last me 10+ years. These M1X macbooks will easily last people over 10 years.
A notebook stand also raises your MacBook off the surface protecting against spillage. I do wish Apple's battery management was a lot more aggressive about pausing charging. My MBP16 usually blows right past the 80% mark even though I rarely let it go down below 50% charge. I'd prefer it always limit charging and let me tell it before some long trip with no power, "Charge to 100% by tomorrow 6am." Otherwise 70% would be fine for me.
I'm a graphic artist and have a Early 2008 Mac Pro Tower (got it brand new) fully loaded and have left them on only to sleep when not in use. It is now almost 14 years later and still at it. Didn't do anything to it but it lasts "forever" as far as I am concerned. Still mass-producing jobs and cranking them out with ease. (Although I'm limited only to Mac OS X El Capitan and Illustrator CS6, Photoshop CS6.)
My parents still use the early 2008 iMac. I updated from 1gb RAM to 6gb. And I put a 500gb SSD inside. They only use it for word, Spotify, and some light browsing
Really useful video. Heat is a big problem on my 2017 Intel MBP and causes the screen to have problems. Avoid MBP with Touch Bar as this commonly fails -I've taped over mine because it flashes endlessly). My best advice is to try and spend as little money with Apple as you can get away with because if something fails then you are left with either an unrepairable paperweight or a hefty repair bill.
I also own a 2017 mbp and I got the same issue with the Touch Bar flashing although it didn’t bother me as much. I’ve had the computer since 2017 and it’s worked wonders. Just due to the age the battery got worn down and over time wear and tear took over to the point where my display cable tore due to poor design choice from apple now I’m trying to scrape together some cash for the m1 air. The cost for a new display is $500 if I put in a little more I can just get a new m1
Excelent like always! Congrats for the growing channel! One question, do you recomend put screen protector and silicon keyboard cover ? Maybe with time the screen will be scratched with the keyboard?
the keyboard and screen never touch. There is a rubber lining on the outside of the screen that only comes in contact with the edge of the bottom part. No need to get a screen protector on a mac
Great video and Presentation! Very useful points to consider specially if one uses the machine for continuous work and play as I do. And as with everything in life, being MINDFUL can make the Journey a long and smooth one . With Gratitude for your Time and Work! Thank YOU!!!!
This has been very useful 16 minutes, thank you so much! I just bought m1 mb air and I think I'll be watching a few more of your videos before I start using it.. Thx!!!
If you're really worried about storage or memory a few years down the road - you could always fly to Shenzhen and have one of the markets install a higher capacity module on it for a fraction of the cost of the part in North America. Not saying there's no risks associated with it, but I'm sure 5+ years down the road a 16GB or even 32GB module with a new storage module would breathe a new breath of life into it. I have a friend who purchased a 2TB memory module for his iPhone 11 Pro over there for $80 USD, and the flight cost him $300. And I'm sure he could save himself the flight by finding a reputable source/friend to ship it to and have them do it for you.
Thank you so much for your helpful video! Can you make a video on how you reset your MacBook every 1-2 years by cleaning and restoring your hard drive? If there is already a video like that, I would appreciate if someone could provide a link for that :)
I think the Intel CPUs actually tend to produce more heat as they age; I had several machines manifesting that problem, and re-pasting the CPU didn't resolve it.
Apple is the best since I was introduced to Apple products, I don’t notice other products. I have iPhone iPad and now my MacBook. This is fantastic. It makes your work easier. You can start working with your iPhone and continue with your iPad and end it with MacBook. Thank you Apple for making my work faster, easier and incredible 💋
I think Ram really matters, especially when considering Future Proofing for at least 3 years; in case of Macs, perhaps 4-5 years, as I have seen Mac users happy with a 4-5 years old MacBook. I have been a Win user for years, but when I started using the base MacBook Air, I really enjoyed it, especially the display was amazing & comfortable to my eyes. In contrast, when it comes to Tablets; iPads are much better because of the software support, number of applications, but Samsung is still in the competition after the launch of S7/S7+ The iPad M1 12.9 is amazing, and because of the upcoming new Apple MacBooks, I returned the M1 Air. I am pretty sure, I made the right decision?
M1 Ipad is solid ngl but it's still not upto mac level productivity imo, ffs I got the 8gb basic model for my mac pro idk how much time will it survive
As a video editor: even my base model m1 air is enough to last 10 years for most people And as a fellow Australian, “aloominim” is definitely not the correct pronunciation
Mine is a mid 2012 15“ MacBook Pro and I still push it to its limits with Lightroom, photoshop, illustrator .. he will be updated with the upcoming 16“ 😍.
Also invest in a good external ssd or two. First to have more storage, in case you just can afford the base storage model (or wanna safe money) and for backups, just in case the internal fails some day XD

@@ko-Daeguunless your shit is going to be intensive, swap won’t be too bad, so long as you’re not using a base model air. 16gb and a TB is enough for the vast majority of people, but if you’re really worried about swap, get the 32tb (though swap memory may be used anyway no matter how much RAM you have, because of Apples design).
until the soldered in irreplaceable ssd drive fails and condemns the whole laptop
I’m still using my 2013 Mac air base model, works fine for all my assignments and video streaming etc. only downside is the battery life, around 3-4 hours streaming and 4-5 hours regular browsing and study work, which I can replace.
The liquid advice was one I should've listened to years ago. My 2018 Macbook Air was actually a pretty solid machine but I spilt lemonade on the computer and that was the downfall of that Macbook
I'm waiting for my air m1 to arrive and I was literally just thinking about how to make it to last as long as it's possible so thank you :)
Ayy what config
What is your primary work on Mac?
@@AsifAnsari-nn8kk school and browsing
@@itwilsonboiii4789 how you heard about the screen crackings? It freakin cracks by itself!
@@hellhog405 I did heard news about it, but I already bought insurance so I have more opportunities to swing it around. If you buy mac, just buy insurance (it worth it). If you don't have money, get chromebook instead of midrange to save money (but you have to accept slowness until you got money for the mac). But it only my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.
finally someone who talks to the point. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK MY MAN
I still have my macbook pro mid 2009, I used to work on it a lot, now I use it occasionally. It has never broken down. I have only replaced the battery, thermal paste and cleaned it of dust. And of course I replaced the drive with an SSD some time ago.
Just a macbook air last week for uni. First ever laptop 😄 thank you for this.
Replacing the battery on my maxed out 15" rmbp 2014 for the third time. This thing is still a beast compared to a lot of laptops today.
More just not having dust ports make a huge difference
I’ve legit never even used as a Mac, but still watched the whole thing. Pretty interesting stuff.
I have my 2015 macbook air, and it still runs like it's brand new - never had an issue with it!
2 things
I probably wouldn't bother with a hard shell case, spend that money on a good sleeve like the Thule one I have.
does it really affect the hinge that much? The cover weighs couple of grams,
@@lukahribovsek5563 same question? Hope someone answers
What about a silicon keyboard cover to stop dust ingress
I have a 2004 Mac that still runs just great.
just got a new MacBook M1 air today. Have been loving the experience. And this video just gave me the power of the infinity stones lol😃
Not to mention how satisfying it is to format the drive and reinstall macOS.
So far, it seems to be great machine!
can you do a video on the resetting the Mac you talk about doing every 2 years? Thanks!
Stay safe!
What’s a good solution to cleaning the screen?
It’s easy, but an M1 Air.. ideally 16/512GB from there you have a solid notebook for the foreseeable future.
Can we have a video on going into the OS (in this situation Mac OS Big Sur) and cleaning it up
Man your videos are really well done! Can you do a video on removing the OS and then putting everything back on to improve speeds and function? I just bought a 1TB SSD but don’t know how to do it.
Please provide a guide on how to clean junk or unnecessary files from Mac
He said he backs up his most important stuff and formats the ssd to factory settings, then reinstall all the essentiall stuff. check how to format mac ssd or set to factory settings
I'm gonna go with it for my M2 macbook pro base model after warranty expires.
one of my best creators
Man I was searching for such video Today and end up finding underrated yt channel , cool man keep making such informative videos
Finally watching on my own macbook air M1 💯🎈
My macbook pro 2012 mid still works as a charm! Handles fcpx, unity,ps etc amazingly! I just added ssd and 8 giggs of ram from 4!
I'm planning to get the mid 2012 once my 2008 becomes unusable :) You can up the RAM to 16 GB I think.
@@GuillermoPaulman yeah you can,but i went to an apple store lol, the official limit is 8gb :(
@@GuillermoPaulman and man if you could up your budget a little bit,go for the m1 mac air...its freakin awesome
@@AnunayMintoo I was tempted but Air is too small for me. I'd happily buy a 15 inch one if they made it.And also I'm worried about the longevity. Some M1 devices are already showing the flexgate problem.
@@GuillermoPaulman hmm ic, longevity might not be a problem tho,14 inch m1x mac this year! Hopefully what u might like😎🙏
I have a 2013 macbook air base model (11 inch) and its been a good little machine, been through thick and thin
Great tip about fan rotation
Channel is so underrated and I love how you said aluminium both ways (for Aussies too), small details like this is amazing 🤩
my old 13" 2011 sat at 85-90c it's whole life never had issues. just upgraded last year.
There is Al Dente for MacOS for that
@@MsSjaakvaak Thanks for the followup. I installed AlDente sometime after that comment, and it is working well :-)
I'm a graphic artist and have a Early 2008 Mac Pro Tower (got it brand new) fully loaded and have left them on only to sleep when not in use. It is now almost 14 years later and still at it. Didn't do anything to it but it lasts "forever" as far as I am concerned. Still mass-producing jobs and cranking them out with ease. (Although I'm limited only to Mac OS X El Capitan and Illustrator CS6, Photoshop CS6.)
photoshop cs6 is still amazing anyway, and no subscription!
What do you think about the hardshell case for MacBooks do really protect them and do they cause overheating?
same question
No they don't ,runs perfectly fine without overheating
My parents still use the early 2008 iMac.
I updated from 1gb RAM to 6gb.
And I put a 500gb SSD inside.
They only use it for word, Spotify, and some light browsing
In regards to minimizing heat, do you think a hard shell case would contribute to any sort of overheating?
Yes
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you.
Good video mate and we want a video on how to clean unwanted files ❤️
Yes, please I want a video on cleaning temporary/junk files on a Mac.
Thanks for the other suggestions 💐
How to make your macbook last forever {{opens lid from the corner with one hand }} .. you donut
@@Kamran1025 thank you so much!

I love the ‘aluminum; aluminium, for my Australians out there’ 😆💓
If you're really worried about storage or memory a few years down the road - you could always fly to Shenzhen and have one of the markets install a higher capacity module on it for a fraction of the cost of the part in North America.
3:00 what about emotional damage?
I think the Intel CPUs actually tend to produce more heat as they age; I had several machines manifesting that problem, and re-pasting the CPU didn't resolve it.
Really and I got a 8th generation intel MacBook Pro 💻 too a refurbished one 😮
Depending on dust buildup and the age of thermal paste on the cpu and gpu, all can be solved in one go in minutes, even made better than new.
Excited for this. My 2012 MacBook Air lasted me 5 years, then 5 for my son. My 2015 Pro Retina lasted me 5 years. I hope my new one can get 10 years.
In contrast, when it comes to Tablets; iPads are much better because of the software support, number of applications, but Samsung is still in the competition after the launch of S7/S7+
The iPad M1 12.9 is amazing, and because of the upcoming new Apple MacBooks, I returned the M1 Air. I am pretty sure, I made the right decision?
M1 Ipad is solid ngl but it's still not upto mac level productivity imo, ffs I got the 8gb basic model for my mac pro idk how much time will it survive

Don't worry, we are keeping them for exactly as long as Apple wants us to.

Also invest in a good external ssd or two. First to have more storage, in case you just can afford the base storage model (or wanna safe money) and for backups, just in case the internal fails some day XD
