Edward seems not to enjoy making the video. quite. not full of expression different than Mike. Sheldon at the beginning seems flat but gets more cheerful in the followings
Umami or however its spelled is not a english word! Only reason i know of it is because i heard it in food wars, a japanese anime about food when describing the umami of tomatoes or of some seaweed soup. Based on this, the closest english word to umami is simply "flavour" or it could be "tangy" altho "tangy" is more of a slang then a word as it is not used eveywhere. The 5 main flavousr are Salty, Sweet, Bitter, Spicy and Sour. But Umami is not like any of those 5. Tangy is often applied to describe spicy foods but also goes with tomatoe based foods which are not spicy. Like Umami, tangy is not really a specific flavor and is too broad a term. Therefore, it will forever stay as a slang and never officially be a word.
@@abracadabra16234Why indian? All they have is food that will burn your throat and they dont even have beef. Indian food is sooo bad. Spices are supposed to add flavour to the main course, not be the main course! I'm going to a Pakistani restaurant just because i am angered by your suggestions and i know indians hates Pakistan.
Okay, A few correction about your Master chef's comments. Traditionally, soup is served at the end the meal in the old country, and not beginning of the meal. It signals the end of the meal. Chinese food didn't have dessert other than orange wedges. unless it is a special occasion when they will serve sho bao (birthday bun), hung dao salle (red bean soup), or po dean (tapioca pudding with lotus paste). a popular slang in the old day was- you have a soup lady? This implies you have a mistress. la tong is usually free which most restaurant don't make money on it (this is western hemisphere custom).
Nah Edward is right about the chicken corn soup. I made it for a white friend of mine in college who later went on to become a chef, dude was blown away by how good it was. After his first bowl he asked for a recipe and then went on to eat another 2-3 bowls in the same sitting S+ ranking for sure

As someone thats born and raised in HK, when you asked about the thousand island dressing shrimp being a canto dish or white washed dish..I would expect 2 cantos knowing the answer to that question.
Edward got off easy! Both Mike and Sheldon got heavily roasted by Eric. There were noticeable moments Eric struck a nerve with each of them. I hope it’s just cuz they’re great friends.
@@seleriemrI saw that too. There comes a point where Eric just came off as unnecessarily rude. The other guys are obviously not chefs, I wouldn’t expect them to know anything about food or cooking.
@@MikeyCh09 That's what passionate people do when others make light of what they do or pretend like they know what they're talking about. Some of their comments were just silly, like I get they're not chefs but any home cook would find some of things they said annoying. I get he may come off as rude but any master like him is gonna think like this. Since they're friends he's doesn't feel like he has to hide his thoughts.
If some non-Chinese ppl think eating Hainanese Chicken is “weird” because it’s cold, then why do they think it’s not weird to have cold chicken in salads and sandwiches? That confuses me… I could understand the gelatinous texture of the skin being ‘foreign’ to them though (which you can be removed easily & not eaten).
Don't forget that the chicken would be bone in, which of course wouldn't be present in salads and sandwiches. Overall I think it's just a mindset caused by seeing a chicken presented in a different way.
Probably because taste is a very subjective thing… I love the taste of chicken regardless of it being cold or not. Also have friends/acquaintances who either like cold chicken or don’t.
@@k-dawgHI Totally agree, my thoughts as well. Taste is subjective indeed and there are Asians who may not like cold chicken as well. Growing up, I didn’t like Hainanese Chicken but learned to like it later in life. That is why I was confused why they pointed out that it is “white ppl” who find it weird or dislike it (I think they were implying non-Asians). I think it is more of a personal preference thing and although cultural exposure could sometimes be of influence on preferences, but not always. Just like chicken feet or durian, different cultures like or dislike it. It’s not usually a particular ethnicity that likes or dislikes it. It’s just personal preference.
@@kevwwong Yes, I don’t think it has anything to do with taste. Some people are just more ‘sensitive’ to different textures or different ways food is prepared other than what they are used to. I disagree with their repeated claims about “white ppl” dislikes because then they’re just stereotyping. There are plenty of Asians who also don’t like Hainanese Chicken and other Chinese cold chicken dishes. Conversely, there are plenty of Asians who love sweet and/or sour, deep-fried westernized Chinese dishes like General Tao’s Chicken, so it’s not necessarily a “white person’s” preference. It’s simply personal preference, not necessarily based on race. There are different ethnicities (including some white ppl) who prefer to avoid western-influenced dishes and opt to stick to authentic, traditional Chinese dishes.
Velvetize is when you add corn starch to the meat to make it that next level texture. It is the ultimate technique to take an average cut of meat to that melt in your mouth texture. I’m Korean and I know that.
