Good stuff, Shannon. Everyone knows about the injuries but one thing a lot of fans don’t know is, during the 2020 Cup run, when they were in the bubble, Stamkos’ wife had a miscarriage. So he was not only dealing with the injury but the loss of a child as well. And every Lightning player raved about the job Stammer did behind the scenes as captain. He’s one of the greatest captains in NHL history. It’s been a joy watching him so many years. JBB needs to keep him in Tampa to finish his career. Can’t let him wear any other team’s jersey.

    • @frozenpoopy

If you watch any of the videos from the bubble you see how everyone talked about him being there was motivation for them. One of him and shatty hugging after shatty got the game 4 or winner. Teammates want to play for him.

@@FroomOfTheLoom The team kept it quiet, they said he left the bubble for family concerns but that was it. Maybe the fact that it was the bubble things like that had a tight lid on them. He came out later after the season was over what had happened. Make it more incredible how his team played for him.

When I saw young Stamkos, when he first got to Tampa Bay, I thought he was the closest thing to Bossy I'd seen, besides Bossy himself. Not only his scoring, but his style, his shot, the way he got his shot off, his way of disappearing on the ice (to the other team's defensemen) and then reappearing when the goal opportunity was available. Because of injuries, he's had to change his game some, but still producing numbers. A first ballot HOF'er for sure.

They said he couldn't play in the NHL
They said he’d never live up to the hype
They said he’d never re-sign in Tampa
They said he’d never be the same from the injuries
They said he’d never captain a cup winning team
They said 500 goals was out of reach and unrealistic.
Stammer has proved all his naysayers wrong and has done so while being the epitome of class, resiliency and leadership. Its been an absolute pleasure watching him for nearly 15 years now. Not enough emphasis is put on how Steven saved this franchise from relocating during their darkest days in the Len Barrie/Oren Koules era. He's easily the most important player in Lightning history if not Tampa sports history.

From what has been said/written he's supposedly going to go down as one of the greatest captains of all time, he overcame some insane injuries and has adapted his game better than ANY (I mean that) player I've ever watched in my lifetime. Criminally underrated
(It is worth mentioning that Shannon said he was accomplishing all these stats early in his career without a lot of team success but they did make it to Game 7 of the ECF in 2011)

@@TheHockeyGuy Stevie Y is the closest match up of career arc to Stamkos (to be generous to Stamkos). Both had high scoring starts; then later in their careers they become a leader first, everything else second, and the teams that they captain become find-a-ways who also have an exceptionally high level of retention and regard for their captain - the irony is in that Stevie Y was an integral boss for Stamkos' career.

Watching his whole career for my hometown team has been such a pleasure. A lot of people from ownership to Yzerman/JBB to the other star players deserve credit for what the franchise has become over the past 13 years, but having that star franchise player in Stamkos has very much spearheaded the charge. Not to mention, his leadership has been second to none. I shudder to think how different things would have gone if one of our owners in 2009 didn't block the dumb idea of trading him to the Rangers.
