Dick Van Dyke is absolutely perfect for this type of sketch. Physical comedy is one of his many specialties.
I agree. I noticed how he was using standing on the inside edges of his soles to make it look he was being pulled from the floor, like there's no gravity on his feet.
Dick Van Dyke is a brilliant pantomimer! I sometimes forget the great physicality and facial expressions he would bring to his performances. He's still with us at 93!

Physical Comedy at its best
I died laughing when Vicki Lawrence started searching in her purse.
It's funny because that's about how ridiculous it is, the size they've tinkered with with our dogs. And the silly people who carry them around like they're objects.
I love the whole cast, but Dick Van Dyke is amazing...I've always admired whatever he did...so genuine and down to earth...the same for Betty White...they are both in their nineties and still going strong! If you haven't watched Betty's music video she made a few years ago to raise money for the LA zoo it's so good. It's called I'm still hot.
It would be hard to beat this sketch for laughter quotient. Dick Van Dyke and Tim Conway simply appearing together would make it worth watching. Vicki is talented too. Love this one!
Dick Van Dyke wasn't able to stand up to Tim Conway when Tim did his "Elephant Story" for the show. Like Harvey Korman, Dick Van Dyke broke up at Tim Conway's antics.

This was likely written to better showcase Dick Van Dyke's talents, and he's probably the best pantomimist in this sketch. Odd that Carol doesn't appear in the sketch. Overall, Dick Van Dyke felt being on the show on a regular basis didn't suit him, and as talented as the guy is, his talents didn't quite gel with what made The Carol Burnett Show so popular. I think Carol herself said that when Harvey Korman wore a dress, he disappeared in that character and you believed he was a woman. Dick Van Dyke in a dress, on the other hand, was just Dick Van Dyke in a dress.
