This talk was presented at TedxYouth@Brum2019 and was organised by independent volunteers within the community. Jay is a Theatre Director as well as previously delivering and co-producing art activism projects across Birmingham.
Jay has worked on theatre projects in Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Kent, London and internationally in Greece, India & Vietnam. His work primarily focuses on using Theatre as a tool for social & political change. In 2016 Jay was selected to be a part of the Birmingham Rep’s Foundry programme for emerging Directors giving him a residency within the building. He is passionate about providing opportunities for young people to progress in the arts. As someone who is lucky enough to have had the experience of having him as a director, I can say this shows the pure passion and care that is put into his work. One of the most notable activities he had us do, was to split everyone into two groups, and made us explain why our group was better than the other. This led so fast into conflict, him demonstrating how easy it is to be manipulated into hatred. He's one of the best teachers I've ever had, and I have learnt a lot from him.
This is amazing. We need more work like this around the world.
