Great video!! Mine is screaming to be painted Cherry Red!! Painting tip: If you have a Lazy Susan to sit the base on when spraying, it helps to give you an even coverage. You won't have to worry about finger prints when you have to move it. The handle, you can hang with fishing line to spray it. Brilliant trick with the zip ties and the spring!! Whoop Whoop!!
Excellent video! Mine needs to be painted too, but I'm too lazy to take it apart anytime soon. Maybe I will just make a padded handle sleeve for now and I need to mount it to something or put something on the bottom to prevent it from damaging surfaces.
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I just want to point out that some people mentioned using a Lazy Susan to turn the press around during the paint spray stage. If you dont have one (or dont want to risk getting paint on it), you can place the press on a piece lf cardstock or another bit of cardboard to be able to rotate it around without touching the press and getting finger prints on it.
I recently painted both of mine. I just taped around the middle post. I started to try to take it off. But didnt feel like dealing with the spring. I knew I would never have been able to get that back in place. Its a good idea with the zip ties. If I need another one I might have to try that one. Love how the glitter came out. I used color shift paints. And love how they came out.
Love the addition of the glitter layer. I just ordered a press with a plan to change the colour and may have to do glitter too. And thanks for the tip re short serger ends.
I was impatient and put my spring in and cut the zip-ties, before I put the rod in and the bolt that pushes the spring down. 😢 I also over applied the glitter spray in a few spots. Otherwise, my KAM makeover turned out! 😊 This tutorial is the best. Newer KAM presses have a bolt instead of a pin to push the spring down.
I really like this idea except I would do one thing differently. I would have used water diluted Dawn dish soap to remove the grease. Best oil/grease cutter ever. Then rinse it well and use a hair dryer on it to insure bone dry. I have restored metal stuff for years and that's where I start when you don't have a shop near by to do that particular work. Love the video. Great idea. P.S. 409 leaves a residue. It ruined some spray paint for me on a wagon.
I stripped mine and painted it baby pink. I bought a foam hand grip from Gold Star for $10 bucks and they ship for 99 cents! I ordered pink but it looks more pink/purple,so I painted the logo/ symbol the same color. Great video!
Still holding strong! I even traveled with it and didn’t have any issues. I did drop a really heavy metal item on it in my studio and it did make a tiny chip. I spraying a little of the spray into the paint can cap and blotting it on with a tiny cheap paint brush. Super easy fix and no issues since :)
Not necessarily. I used it to hold the glitter on but triple thick also gives you a really pretty gloss finish and extra protection over your freshly painted surface. I’m a little rough on things so I really like that added protective coat. If you don’t like a gloss, you would use a matte or satin option.

This is an amazing tip and would work great! This way would make it so much easier where you wouldn't have to keep turning it...Thank you!
I took mine to a place that does powder coating. They took it all apart, sand blasted it, painted it and put it back together all for $20.00
That’s great if you have a shop in your area who is willing to do this but it’s not feasible for everyone. Glad you were able to do that :)
That's great for that price. They are crazy around here.
Love this idea. I waited until they were painting with a color I loved......Purple! It's beautiful!

That’s a wonderful tip, especially for those who pray paint a lot. Thanks for sharing :)
perfect and the best video for this activity
Thanks for a great video. My is now a teal color. I showed my husband your video, and he surprised me with it.😊
What a wonderful surprise :) he is a keeper! Enjoy your pretty press!!

I’m glad it turned out great in the end :)
Thanks for this great video! I just got my press & will be painting it with your help!
I probably should've watched this before I spray painted mine. I definitely just spray painted the spring 😂 Woops! Hope it turns out fine lol
My daughter painted her black plastic bookshelves deep purple; it to 3 1/2 cans of Rustoleum. She loves it.

Make sure to tag us when you do! I’d love to see it!! :)
That looks super cute, but I am just going to keep mine in the closet. LOL BTW, they are having a great sale right now, July of 2024.
I want to paint mine too! How has the paint held up over time, any chipping?

If I weren’t to use glitter and just the glossy color would it need a top coat with the glaze?
Not necessarily. I used it to hold the glitter on but triple thick also gives you a really pretty gloss finish and extra protection over your freshly painted surface. I’m a little rough on things so I really like that added protective coat.

You don't have a tutorial of How to do the padded handle? Thanks
I have not. I actually like the cotton Lycra sleeve a lot and have not felt the need to add a padded handle.
@@EmporiumThreads it is just cotton lycra! Wao! It looks like it is padded
