- MARILLION - Quebec City, Quebec - Opening for RUSH - Power Windows Tour
Setlist:
Misplaced Childhood
A great show, with a great crowd response to Marillion!!
I don't usually upload other artists shows, but this is just some greatness that can't be ignored.
I rediscovered this show in my concert VHS archives and did a search without finding this show in the results. It really deserves to be seen. Rothery's guitar is low at first, but it doesn't take long for it to kick in, so stick with this and it will pay off!
Since the split between FISH and MARILLION, they both have great products to offer. So please support the artists involved:

Thanks to Teri S. for getting me this show on my birthday in 87!!
I saw this tour in Long Island New York ...I was there to see Rush but became a Marillion fan that night...have all the Marillion With Fish albums..what a great band they were with him...
Gawd, that would be my dream concert. I love Rush's Power Windows.
12:57 fish for ever, and only Fish/Marillion!🙋♀️🙋♂️😻💞
I was at the Montreal show, Marillion opening for Rush and it was the best ever opening show I saw. Misplaced Childhood is a great album from start to finish and they played it flawless. Fish has such a fantastic charisma. They were becoming a huge act and delivering unique music while rock bands were becoming softer with keys and more pop.
I bought this album. It was the first album that excited me since The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.
the crowd energy here is off the charts...amazing footage
I was there John, first row just in front of Fish...
Believe me, the crowd reaction for Marillion that night was INSANE,
some says that they stole the show that evening... I tend to agree!
We were there to see Marillion at first, even if we were big fans of Rush for always. They will have filled the stands by themselves, in Québec City.
The whole of Misplaced childhood and Rush after, can there be anything better?
No Sir!! Not at all!! How about that great audience? Thanks for the comment brother!
Saw this show in Milwaukee. Incredible!!
@@gwdone At least they were nicer than back in 83, when they booed the heck out of them, but yeah I don’t think there’s anything better then Marillion and then Rush after.
@@nickavenoso7851 To be fair, early Marillion is a very acquired taste, and badly promoted as this "heavy metal band" .
if you put Mike Oldfield in front of a crowd of metal or punk fans it won't go down well as well for most of the crowd.
After Kayleigh, most of the crowd knew what they were going to. Amazing show.
@@MiguelBaptista1981 Yeah, I can see what you’re saying.
Idem!
This is great! There is no official concert footage of the Misplaced Childhood tour, a real shame when you can clearly hear the huge appreciation in Canada here - and ‘merely’ for the support band! Amazing times for all that were there and part of that time in the band’s history. Merci!
Glenn - That band changed my life. That is why it is up here. And the passion of the fans, just like me, has been awesome.
Thanks for enjoying HISTORY
I was lucky enough to be there on that very night. Marillion stole the show
Was at the Montreal show a couple nights before, EPIC in every sense of the word!
Teas my 2nd of 24 shows that would follow for Rush and I became a huge Marillion fan following this.
Great memories indeed!
Yes you were, and your first rush show was July 15 1984,Red Rider was EPIC that night too!Walk-in from the forum to Kojax after the show,Great memories for sure!
Nostalgie.....
"Seems to me it's Chemistry"
Freshman in hs, an older student put together a Van load of Rush fans and me who liked them at the time but had Misplaced Childhood on repeat. What a night at the Forum a day or 2 before this. Know there was a snow storm just south of the border that night. We slid at a bridge on the way home. Scary but didn't/couldn't damper that energy
That's a great story!! I would have done the same thing!
MARILLION 👍❤FROM POLAND 🖐💝
Były ścieżką dźwiękową do większości mojego życia, to jest takie dobre. Dziękuję za napisanie !!
I saw them in Montreal during the same tour. I went only for Marillion and left before Rush hit the stage. I still remember my state of mind and the things going on in my life at the age of 23 at the time. Misplaced Childhood remains one of my top 5 albums all time to this day. Thanks for the memories!
So you never bothered to see the 3 canadian gods, fuck me.
@@martinhall3510 Never did I wasn't a Rush fan
@@Gurkha9 Fair play then,i did something similar when Pete Way of UFO his new band Waysted supported Status Quo and i left straight after Waysted i had no interest in seeing Quo.
Me too, went to see Marillion but definitely stayed for RUSH. WHAT A NIGHT AT THE FORUM!
I would have done the same probably. Never been a real big Rush fan. Hemispheres is a pretty cool album. Otherwise I don't really like 'em much. Geddy's voice drives me nuts most of the time and a lot of the music is basic/boring.
J`étais là,14000 personnes dans le Colisé!
Le Saint Graal. Merci.
truly a great chance to see a great band at its almost peak open for a band who was at the peak
There is nothing more to say they were the greatest when fish was leadsinger
amazing. amazing. amazing.
Yes. Marillion was called in to open for Rush after Steve Morse couldn't..My freind Benoit Richards( Over the Garden Wall, from Montreal, was lighting tech on the Rush tour and said they had a tough time with gigs in some cities..not alot of Rush fans knew who Marillion was and to open for Rush is rather tough to do..not sure if a buffalo was before or after this gig..I had just become a fan of the band and was treated to a great set from Marillion think they planted entire first side of Misplaced Childhood,Script for Jesters Tear and maybe Forgotten Sons..my freinds were like..who are these guys??!!
You're a lucky man to have seen that show!!! My first album was Fugazi. I thought, wow, if the music sounds anything like the artwork from Mark Wilkerson looks, it's going to be great. Me and some high school buddies in 1984 got in the "right frame of mind" and popped in the cassette I had dubbed just for the occasion, and it changed us forever!! As a side note, it hurts me to not have seen the Rush / Saga tour dates. I think that was during the Grace Under Pressure tour. Thanks for the great story David!!
For me it would of been the gig of a lifetime- Rush my no1 ever Marillion my no 2........seen them both a dozen times around the globe but never together........Marillion backed rush a couple of times in US
Just an aside: not, did I ever love Over The Garden Wall. Must have seen them 20 or so times
sold out show at Le Colisée de Québec...13 500 fans !!
thanx for sharing this show , this is great stuff
Fucking awesome!!!! Love it!😊
What a great flashback. I was also there . Quel beau souvenir. J'étais là également.
I was there great show!
damn Marillion had the crowd going...awesome!
Awesome. So much energy in the music
J'étais à ce show!
Great performance. I just love how the crowd goes crazy for them!
You were there!!! Lucky you!!! ----la chance de voir ce spectacle
I was there! First show I went to. Many people disguised as Marillion characters. Marillion had to do an "encore". For a first part show, that was unusual. Good memories, thx for uploading this video (along with the RUSH show).
Thanks for the upload……. What a great show!
RIP Neil the Weapon Peart.
So many memories indeed Jean!!
THANK YOU FOR SHARING
Despite the poor sound quality, you can see that Marillion sounds much better than Rush. I have seen Marillion and also Rush in Chile several times and the truth is that the Marillion sound quality is unmatched. I love both bands!! All tremendous musicians.
This is what you call stealing the show. As a fan of both Rush and Marillion, this concert in my hometown would have been awesome. Too youg, 8 years old at the time!
thanks for this, as a fan since the early 80s it's a gem
Opening for who? I have no memories of Rush, although I always have been a fan of them. But that Marillion show was just out of this world! Thanks so much for the post.
Thanks for the comments....Yes, it was Rush on their Power Windows tour. After Marillion leaves and the video comes back on, you can hear the Rush intro back then which was the Three Stooges theme song. I cut it off there right before Spirit of Radio which is on my tape.
I used to resent the fact but thank God Marillion never broke america otherwise we probably wouldn't have a Fish to go see now !
The Rush show from the same camera is also posted, for the full experience.
i was there too!!!!
epic
I can’t believe there’s only a few minutes between the end of Marillions set and the start of Rushs show.
Nowadays it usually takes up until 45 minutes for a headliner to follow up the support act.
Moi aussi... Moi aussi... J'étais là
Rush has always been a confident live band. I guess you’d have to be to follow a set like that by Marillion.
He knew how to front a band for sure.
35 years later his voice is shot unfortunately
@@guy5359 T'as 100% raison!
Huge in Canada and Europe but not so in America. Shame really.
wonder why they left out childhoods end, must have been pushed for time i guess
