  • In this video I replace the front brake lines on a 05 Chevy Tahoe with a dorman stainless steel brake line kit.

Good fix Jason. Welcome back too, it’s been a minute since we saw you here on the RUclipss.
I have a friend here in OKC with a salt belt Avalanche. Rusty brake lines galore. He had a used car lot guy “solder them up” not even sure what that means. Sounds sketchy. Last I heard he bought this kit and was having a guy do the whole kit. Needless to say I did not volunteer to help him. Lol

Seems like a nice kit. You'd probably spend more in NiCop line and fittings trying to make them from scratch. My experience with prebent lines is that the line up about 80% but usually need a little tweak hear and there. InLine Tube recommends tightening and loosening fittings a few times to get the flares to mate and seal.

Dorman gets a bad rap mainly for their electronic/electrical components. I've had good luck with their hard parts. The fit looked pretty good on your kit. I've done plenty of brake lines over the years living in Southern New England. I've read that stainless line is difficult to work with. It probably depends on the alloy. Dorman may be using a more malleable alloy that flares easier. We have a 2000 GMC Sierra 4x4. The line from the ABS box to the rear brakes failed. I bent up a steel line and fit it. I had a hell of a time getting the brakes to bleed. After 5 years the line rotted again. I farmed the job out to our local independent and had them replace all the lines. They use Ni-Cop. They made up a "road map" that is tacked up on the wall so they know what lines go where. I wasn't going to do the job lying on my back. Our 98 Honda Civic is going to need brake and fuel lines in the future. I scabbed a section of brake line in for now. Honda has discontinued replacement lines and Dorman doesn't appear to have a kit available. I plan on making lines in Ni-Cop. Unfortunately I'll have to drop the fuel tank. Much less complicated than the GMC.

I miss your videos where you are doing your municipal repairs. Do they not allow you to film anymore?

Great job Jason. I replaced my 2000 Silverado brake lines with Nicop. What a pain on my back in my gravel driveway. My biggest problem was bleeding the ABS pump. I didn't have a GM Tech 2 scanner. Do you know if the generic interactive scanners now are able to command the pump? I currently have an Autel Maxisys. Kind Regards, Craig
