The Only Begum at the 1911 Delhi Durbar

This photograph from 1911 captures the Begum of Bhopal walking by at a ceremony to greet the British monarchy in full purdah. She was the only Indian woman ruler present at the ceremony, belonging to a unique princely state, which witnessed the rule of a long line of begums.
