When I first started taking metoprolol, I was taking it in the morning and experiencing lightheadedness, dizziness, etc. I called my doctor and I was instructed to take it in the evening either with or directly after my evening meal. Once I started doing that, I never felt that dizziness again.

I had horrible, realistic, constant nightmares. Brain fog. It all stopped when I stopped taking it. And I was only on 10mg! Cardiologist said I had a severe reaction to it, took me off. Post craniotomy I couldn’t tolerate metoprolol. For some reason before surgery a doc put me on a different heart medication i can’t recall. 70 here. So when a new doc was treating me she said that metoprolol was a better medication for my blood pressure and prescribed it. I had severe diarrhea ( these types of discomfort always appear in the wee hours of the morning when you desperately want to sleep). I went to my doc and told her to take me off this med. She reluctantly did. She said diarrhea is not one of the common side effects and I was her first patient to have this reaction. To prove she was right, she asked me to try it again to see if I got the same results. I said, no thank you, and walked out. I then am assigned to a cheeky cardiologist. She never heard anyone presenting with diarrhea from metoprolol and wanted me to try 10 mg. Very convincing specialist. I tried and I presented with diarrhea again but not as horrendous as the all nighter experience. Frickin docs think they know it all. I just wished I had used a party hat in the commode and brought her a fresh sample in a 16oz glass jar with lid.

3x in a cardiac unit and it was a PA at urgent care who healed me. I had been saying for over 10 years that the Metoprolol was making my life miserable. Other medications were tried but by stopping the Metoprol my BP got so bad they put me back on Metoprolol. When I saw the PA i was itching all over, wheezing with uncontrolled blood pressure. He told me you can not stop the Metoprolol. You have to very gradually reduce the dose . He suggested Valsartan and worked with my primary and compounding pharmacist to make me Metoprolol drops to be gradually withdrawn over 6 weeks. It is a nasty drug. I am finally stable and free of the symptoms and arrhythmias caused by Metoprol.

Ppl are saying all these symptoms but let’s start with health. Are ppl actives like working out? Changing up their diet? Stop smoking? Stop alcohol? Stopping their stress? This medication is purposely designed to temporarily help lower BP and to get ppl better by helping them changing up their lifestyle. But if ppl continue to indulge process food, junk food they are not helping themselves. I’m on this med to lower my BP and going back to a healthier lifestyle of eliminating all these things that causing me health problems and not having to rely on drugs. Try tracking how much calories you’re eating. Try taking your daily supplement support. Sitting at home not being active being obese will not help at all. Burn your carbohydrate, go on intermittent fasting, eat healthier, reduce salt, reduce sugar. Go work out! Because no one here is stating how much they weigh What they eat daily how much they drinking and smoking be smart about your health if you don’t care then don’t complain what this med is doing to you

My husband was on this for several months. He was also on Candesarten 4 mg, blood thinners and a statin for Cholesterol, he had awful side effects to all of them. So he was also taking Hawthorn. So we increased the Hawthorn to 1600 mg a day, introduced Nattokinase 2 capsules a day. He stopped all of the drugs except Candesarten 4 mg. he also takes serrapeptase. He no longer has any of those side effects except a runny nose from the Candesarten. his BP is in the 120/60 and lower. He now exercises on a stationary bike to get some strength back. He was also getting Atrial Fib regularly but hasnt had it now for four years.

I have been taking Metoprolol for many years, so was eager to watch this video. BUT I'm well educated and am from a family of medical professionals. However, I'm just not sure why it's necessary to speak far above the heads of the average patient using this medication. Some people want the explanations of the specific processes that result in various side effects. And it's fantastic that individuals such as yourself can provide that. I was lost the moment you began using terms such as "beta andrenergic receptors" and "catecholamines." Perhaps the side effects could be listed in "average person speak" with a promise of detailed explanations of the causes for those who stay until the end of the video. Just an idea.

I started getting tinnitus when I started taking this drug along time ago and now it's worse. I'm told this drug doesn't have tinnitus as a side effect. Also if you have a circulatory issue affecting the limbs like reflex sympathetic dystrophy is this drug a good idea since it decreases blood flow? I wonder if this is affecting my hands in my forearms which get very strained when I exert them maybe it's exacerbating a repetitive motion disorder problem I have. Doctors are not terribly helpful with these things

I take that drug. It's interesting, the exercise intolerance is my biggest problem. There's this waterfall in my state that's very beautiful and you can hike to the top, it's about a mile up with all the switchbacks. It's a hard hike, but I could make it. Back again five years and eighty pounds lighter, but taking that drug and I could only make it halfway. It was a hard stop. I just couldn't catch my breath. Even normal walking at home, if I'm too enthusiastic, can make me slow down.

My heat rate use to race everyday and sometimes several times a day. Metoprolol would always bring it back to its it's normal rhythm. After I took my 2nd covid vaccine my heart went into uncontrollable rhythm for almost a day. After that it went back to it's normal rhythm. My heart never again raced into the old usual almost 200 bpm for the past 2.5 year's. And since then I haven't needed metoprolol.

I was put on this and after a few months my doctor took me off it because I became extremely fatigued. I had trouble doing small everyday things without having to sit down frequently. Within a few days of stopping it I felt so much better. Now listening to this I realized that the extreme itchiness I had was also caused by this medication because it started slowly like the fatigue so I didn't think much of it. I just realized that also went away after I stopped taking these pills. I will never take them again.

Used 25 mg twice a day. Felt tired, overate carbs, fatigued, gained 20 lbs in two months. Initially lowered bp but also lowered heart rate from 80 to 60-65. Tired all the time, no motivation. Weaned myself off this medication after I realized this drug is a very low tech solution. I don’t want to end up on a pacemaker or worse because of this drug. I studied the heart years ago and the thought of this drug messing with delicate PQRST electrical waves scares the heck out of me!? I am going to have to trust my own body on this one and find natural diet/exercise ways to deal with the hbp. Don’t play with my heart ❤️!!!

I personally found that b complex and Co Q 10 helped a lot with my feet and hands. Each medication can help you in some way; but, it takes something out of the body or stops the absorption of something that the body needs to be healthy. You need to find out what it is doing to your body and correct it with supplements; working with a good doctor that understands nutrition and how the body works.

    Is atenolol the same thing?

    • @jeanrichardson2044
      @jeanrichardson2044 Год назад

I used to take atenolol for my atrial fibrillation. It is non specific and affected my respiratory system, causing cough and broncho spasm. Changed to metoprolol and it has been better tolerated. Still have a lot of the side effects though.

Uhhh I was diagnosed with IST and arrhythmia is my regular companion. In October last year I was finally put on Metropolol 25 twice a day plus a calcium blocker, It's working for my IST which was really bad but I am dizzy all the time, passed out few times since my BP was literally staying at 90 over 60, but the worst one for me is the blurry vision. Without it my heart rate goes crazy, and my anxiety is like my shadow, with it l can hardly function. Oh on top of that l have to take it at specific times since l have to take Synthroid 150 due to having no Thyroid ( lost it to cancer ) and apparently Metropolol and Synthroid can't be taken at the same time.

I've been on it for 5 years and the worst side effect I've had is increased hair loss. It's obvious that everyone has a different reaction to it. I take very few other meds it can interact with. Keeps my BP in the low-normal range and HR in the high 70's low 80's. Just remember when you see the list of side effects they are listed in decreasing order. The most common is first.

@@joanwood9480 hi....if your heart rate is still that high even with taking that med I can see that it is right for you..... definitely lowers heart rate....in my case normally my heart rate is in my 60ies....so this med really shouldn't have been prescribed for me.... Cardiologist put me on a monitor and told me to get off it immediately because my heart rate was dangerous low at sleep.....this med wasn't for me and mad that I was prescribed it

You also get horrible dreams, because it alters melatonin, a chemical in your body which regulates your sleep.

The very BEST remedy against Toprol side effects is actually replacing it and also VOIDING at ALL costs, because it's a very young drug and it's till in "training" on patients. So if you don't wanna be the medical experiment subject -- VOID IT AT ALL COSTS!!!
